I had noticed a while back that we was looking at Joe Mason but it was a rumor so didn't bother asking you all about the lad but it seems to be gathering momentum now and more so now we've accepted Burnleys offer for Ashley Barnes and we seem to be weighing up the option of bidding £600,000 for him.
I noticed that he's not in your squad and has been out on loan and is now back with you. Is he any good and does he fit into your future plans?
We still want Conway but the price and wages seem to be the stumbling block at the moment.

Hope we don't sell, a loan for the rest of the season wouldn't be too bad. He's got a lot of potential and one of the coolest finishers I've seen at Cardiff. Scored 9 goals in his first Championship season and 12 in all competitions. Scored a few last season as well although he didn't play that much. I feel he would benefit from some game time so perhaps loan him out after we play Bolton in the cup.
He'll be playing in the Prem in the not too distant future

Bloody hope not, I hope that Ole keeps him and gives him the encouragement that Malky failed to do. Don't think he's quite prem quality at the moment but with the right coaching sure he'd make it. Would hope we'd do no more than loan him out me self.

Cant see him going ,I would imagine Ole will want a look at him and he's the type of player Ole will like ,makes good runs ,scores goals .

Mentioned that Joe was on they're radar in the Bridcutt thread yesterday.
i wouldnt let him go for less than a Million.

He sounds like the ideal replacement for Barnes if Barnes agrees personal terms. If we can get Mason (Big if) then I'm sure he could score loads for us as we miss so many chances due to poor finishing. The only problem I can see is like you said that he'll be playing in the prem and you don't need the cash. Wonder what he'll think though if he's not getting a chance? He might be like Conway who says he'd rather be playing than warming the bench and picking up his wages.

That's the problem when a new manager comes in isn't it, they like to look at the whole squad before deciding who to keep, sell or loan out. Don't blame us for trying as we only want quality and this Mason does look promising. Have to play it by ear and see how the next week or two pan out. Fingers crossed.

And another thing while I'm here. You can only have a 25 man squad. So some of you want Conway to be given a chance and some want Mason. Ollie has bought in 2 or 3 players and probably another one so who's he going to leave out?
Something has to give and the thought of Mason and Conway come over to us seems more likely wouldn't you agree?

I don't understand what's funny? Ashley Barnes has signed for Burnley so we'll be coming for those two (Conway & Mason) in the next week

I think you will need more than £600,000 to get mason away

£900k for Mason and £1m for Conway is realistic IMO. Conway was great last season and ideal for any Championship club

No chance. Conway is out of contract in the summer. £500k tops I'd say.

That could be a problem but hoping we can offer a good price (cash) and add ons and a percentage of any future sale say like 15% like Watford has done to us regarding Buckley.

Personally I would do everything to keep mason.I don't think he got a fair crack of the whip with malky but that's just my opinion. If you do get get him tho,you will have a good little player on your hands

He seems to be rated on here and on our forum as well. I understand that you and many want to give him a chance but I don't think he'll get the chance with you, not this season anyway as your main aim is survival and don't think you can take the gamble. Only saying from an outside perspective.
I'd like him to join and looks like our club are willing to pursue him but we'll have to wait and see, if he comes then great but if he doesn't then we'll move on to other targets.

Conway is decent and will do a good job for a championship team
MASON is better than championship for me just needs to be given a chance excellent finisher just lacks a bit of pace

Conway without a doubt has been our best player since coming on loan and we'd love it for him to come back as we've got Ulloa back, Conway whipping in crosses for Ulloa then can see a flurry of goals on a regular basis. Conway will defiantly be back ( putting my neck on the line) but Mason then I'll keep an open mind on.

We need to cut the wage bill so they can both go.
Thu Jan 09, 2014 3:19 pm
Conway will probably go back to you for 500k. We got him on a free anyway.
Mason would take more than 600k to take off our hands & I'd like to see him stay & given a chance in the first team. He deserves it.
Thu Jan 09, 2014 3:39 pm
We should keep Mason as he was not expensive and has a lot about him.IMO.

Everyone wants to see their talented players given a chance but I don't think you can take chances at the moment Mr Chuckles as you need points and try and get some distance between you and the bottom three.
We're like you whereas we've given our talent a chance only because we had 6 first team players out and they are now either starting or on the bench, Chickson 20, left back, Ince 20 who is the first on the team sheet now and is going to be a monster of a player attacking/holding midfield player, JFC 19, Dunk 19, defender, Solly 19, attacking midfielder/winger (MOM last week), they are all in the first team now but we can afford to do as we're in the championship whereas you need to stay up due to finance so I don't think you can gamble?

600k is a joke, worth a lot more than that, i would be gutted if we sold him anyway he has what it takes to be a regular first team player for us. I would send him out on loan for the rest of the season though

I think we should keep Mason as a good attacking option, but maybe let Brighton have Conway for a reasonable fee. After all they did give us Noonenio ? Whoever made that decision at Brighton wants a kick up the arse!! (was that Poyet??) But thank you, thank you, thank you, anyway.
