MALKY MACKAY MEETS CITY FANS TONIGHT

Tue Jan 07, 2014 10:38 pm

I went along to the Q+A with Malky Mackay at Bryntirion FC tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, it was a pleasure listening to Malky Mackay talk about his time at City and answer questions from us.

Malky was sincere and genuinely honest with his answers and it was apparent for everyone there to see how much he enjoyed his time at Cardiff City.

Thanks to Terry Phillips who has reported on the evening.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/foot ... ff-6478076?

Ex-Bluebirds boss speaks of his happy memories with the club and tells of his proudest moments.

MALKY Mackay has sent a heartfelt "all the best" message to new Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Former Bluebirds boss Mackay, speaking for the first time since he was sacked last month, told more than 150 supporters: “I wish him the very best of luck”.

The Scot was back in South Wales fulfilling an obligation to speak during an evening held to officially open a new 3G synthetic pitch at Welsh League Penybont FC in Bridgend.

“I would never give a manager advice without being asked, but I do wish him the very best of luck as Cardiff City manager,” said Mackay.

“I was proud to be manager and had two-and-a-half great years here.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now lucky enough to be in that job and I sincerely wish him and our club nothing but the best for the future.”

Mackay, relaxed and honest as he chatted, talked about his time with the Bluebirds, saying: “The proudest days of my football career were with this football club.

“I loved my job, loved my time here, loved being in Cardiff. I loved being involved with the team that was built.

“I was interviewed along with 10 other candidates. I came and looked around the club and the area. There was apprehension about taking over a club with 10 players, but there was something to build here.

“The passion of fans and decent facilities helped as we set out.

“My second interview was with TG (former chairman Dato Chan Tien Ghee) and he was the man who ultimately decided I would be manager. The opportunity excited me and that has not changed from that day until today.

“It was an honour, a privilege and a humbling experience to be manager of Cardiff City, come here and live among people who made me feel welcome and warmed.

“That feeling will always be in my heart.”

Mackay was givn a huge welcome by Bluebirds fans in the Penybont clubhouse, who chanted "we’ll always be blue" as he walked to his seat alongside Alan Whiteley, the former Cardiff chief executive who is now a director at the Welsh League club.

Former Bluebirds players Jason Perry and Derek Brazil were among the guests at Penybont as Mackay answered questions from the floor.

Mackay said he had no immediate plans for a return to football management, and said: “I’ve spent a couple of weeks in Scotland with my family.

“I am spending time with my wife and children away from the stresses and strains which go with the job.”

Cardiff City’s development team played Penybont FC in a match to officially open their new 3G synthetic pitch and Mackay was among the spectators as the young Bluebirds won 5-0.

What a brilliant night,so glad I went and u could see the hurt Malky was feeling, but you could also see the passion/love he had for our club and still has  :malky: :ayatollah:

I loved it when we started singing as he entered " We are Cardiff City We will Always be BLUE " And he sang it as well

Carl, Mallo,Bart,Dibs,Jarred and myself all went along and all said what a great manager

So Malky signed for Cardiff City after only ever speaking to TG,Gethin Jenkins and Steve Borley.

I will say it again. Malky will go down in history as one of Cardiff City's greatest ever managers and in my 41 years of supporting City, as my best ever manager. :malky: :malky: :malky:

I like that Malky seemed to have remained professional throughout the meeting it seems and only recalled the good moments showing he had passion for the club. He's a great bloke, maybe minipulated the fans a bit to get his payoff but he seems a down to earth bloke, not ready for the PL yet though, love his enthusiasm on sports technology etc but he needs to brush up on his tactics and find a better head of recruitment

Thank you Malky anyway

Love that man, he'll always be remembered as my favourite City manager no matter who we get in the future. Compared to the man he was taking over from, it felt like a totally different club in a good way.

I love how he still refers to Cardiff City as "Our club". Top man, I'd love to know his full thoughts on the rebrand though :ayatollah:

I will respect Malky for what he has done for this club and yes he is our greatest ever manager to date and a Cardiff City legend. That I do not dispute. I think every fan should at least understand that regardless of your views on his tactics and so forth.

However, in the grand scheme of things he's not a great manager. In the future he may very well be but its the here and now that will keep us up if we are to stay up. He's a good solid top of the Championship manager and I believe with backing he could take any club up to the Premier League. Any Championship club in around the playoffs this January hitting a bad spell of form would be foolish to not snap him up. He'll then most likely bring his favourites with him who will get the job done for him at that level.

Thats not being horrible to Malky but just being realistic. He's a good manager and he's started his career young but lets not build him up into something he isn't like the media do. All it does it add pressure and expectation and they ruin the careers of players and managers. They build them up to knock them down. Don't get drawn into their agenda. Malky will one day again manage in the Premier League and I don't dispute that but he's not right for us right now.

I wish him well and all the best. I'd love Lennon to move on and Malky to take over Celtic as I think he'd love it up there being manager and he'd be in a league where he can do well as well. He's also 20/1 to be the next Celtic manager and it would not surprise me if it happened.

He had his faults (as does everyone) but class shows through regardless.

Malky is a true gentleman and a class act. His style of football may not have been the one preferred by some, but that doesn't detract from what he did for the club and the type of person he is. :malky:

Thanks Annis, what a spontaneous evening for me, I still can't believe how the day turned out to be fantastic.

Malky is great, really, really enjoyed his talk. He was as passionate as ever, but you could feel he is also sad or rather disappointed his time with the club is over and that he can't finish his job, that was keeping the Bluebirds up.

I will post some pictures from the meeting this evening! :malky:

It was an entertaining evening and Malky was on good form and spoke eloquently and honestly. His favourite game being the derby win against the jacks this season. which went down well with most there. His passion for the club was there for all to see and its a shame things didn't work out, but in my opinion Tan had to make the move when he did.

Our team included Ben Nugent and Velikonja - who scored in a 0-5 victory and looked pretty sharp albeit against a much lower level of opposition, but the stand out player for me was Tommy O' Sullivan - first time I have seen him play and he bossed the game. Theo Warton also had a good game with a nice range of passes.

And I met Carl - briefly ;)

Rick, Malky was so sincere and I honestly believe he should of been left alone for this season to complete the job he started.

Those that dont think he is one of City's best ever managers are entitled to their opinions, but for me a manager who gets us promoted to the Prem after 51 years of waiting, Carling Cup Final 2-2 with Liverpool,Play off Semi-Final, Never in the bottom 3 of Prem and beating Man City,The Jacks etc etc, to me he def is, all achieved in 2half years

Re: MALKY MACKAY MEETS CITY FANS TONIGHT

I have said in a previous post that Malky's legacy will always be as the first manager, after 51 years, to get us into the Premier league after two seasons, plus a play off finish & cup final in his first season in charge, no mean feat.

History & the stats will testify to his fantastic achievements as CCFC manager,,,how thing would have progressed had he remained in that position, is purely one of conjecture.

The million dollar question for me, & I'm sure it was raised at last nights meeting, was what caused the breakdown in relations between Malky & Tan?

I saw it on here but couldn't make it - knew it would be excellent and a DVP match to boot. Wish I could have gone simply to say 'thanks'. Met him when my son was mascot and such an excellent guy. Best City manager ever for me and delivered so much in such a short space of time. I will never forget that when he took over, he had 5 weeks and 10 players to work with. I honestly thought relegation was a definite possibility as how do you build a performing squad in that amount of time. But he did and he delivered the PL we old heads had dreamed of for so long - I will never forget the Carling Cup run either (which we morally won!). I think he''ll go on to be one of the best managers this countries produced and I truly hope he knows that he will always be held in the highest regards by City fans. I think that MM's defensive mindset tactics give Ole a great base to augment his attacking play (which is what we all want) so I am salivating as to what I think we will see, hopefully starting on Saturday - I now really do feel good about it. anyway, Malkay MacKay is a class act and has left us in good shape for Ole to now hopefully take us further on and I thank him for everything he has done & wish him all the best for the future. :ayatollah:

On an entirely different note - where the hell has the Babes & Boobs thread gone? I need to start inviting/insisting that our Norwegian friends post pictures of their scantily dressed Scandinavian saucepots. Strenge forum reglene, se. (Strict forum rules, see).
