Solskjaer hits the jackpot at Cardiff with new boss on £4m

Sun Jan 05, 2014 4:16 am

Sunday 5th Jan 2014.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit the jackpot with his appointment as Cardiff manager.

The 40-year-old former Manchester United striker could multiply the £600,000 he earned in charge of Molde an astonishing 10 times if he keeps his new club in the Premier League.

Solskjaer, who turned down Aston Villa before Paul Lambert was appointed and also linked with the job at West Brom, is thought to have signed a contract worth £4million a year with a £2m bonus if City avoid relegation.

And his second-half double substitution transformed the FA Cup-tie.

A goal down, Solskjaer sent on Craig Noone and Fraizer Campbell, who both scored, and he said afterwards: ‘When you turn games around, it’s fantastic. It’s the best feeling you have in games. ‘You want players who can make an impact and we know Fraizer has pace and agility.’ And United’s former supersub added: ‘I was part of a great team and enjoyed doing my best when I got the chance. That was my message to the players, “Come on, make an impact”.

‘The best time of your life is when you’re playing. That’s over now, but today was pleasing for the lads, and we have something to build on.

‘You have 90 minutes and can use 14 players. I picked a team I thought would give Newcastle a hard game.

‘I had to leave Craig and Fraizer on the bench because they have had a lot of football and had a few niggles.

‘It’s not about me, but it’s the perfect start.

‘The lads have had a lot to deal with lately. It’s never easy here, especially when you go 1-0 down. Not many games get turned around. We showed great character to do that. The way they didn’t stop playing when a goal down impressed me.

‘It was two fantastic pieces of skill. A great header from Fraizer and Craig’s goal was something else.’
Solskjaer is already preparing to make his first move in the transfer market with a deal for fellow Norwegian Magnus Eikrem, who plays in Holland.

He added: ‘The depth of the squad is something I’m looking at but the quality is there.

‘We could go for local lads. I’ve been thinking about asking the owner to sign Giggsy, Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale! We could do with them.’

As Pardew headed off to lick his wounds, Solskjaer was preparing to start work in earnest, although asked if that would include a January recruitment drive, he was coy.

He said: 'You will see when and if we make something happen. This was a great start for me, I don't want to start talking about signings.

'We could go with the local lads - I have been thinking to ask the owner could we sign Giggsy, Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale? They might be some signings that we could so with, so maybe they are the targets.'

He has made himself millions away from football so the money wasn't the main factor, he has a drive and an ambition to prove and test himself against the elite. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

In 2010, the Sunday Times Sport Rich List estimated his personal wealth to be around £10 million, making him one of the richest coaches in British football

Yeah Gary Neville was saying he's one of the richest ex players around and only does it for his love of the game now. :ayatollah:

Cornelius is on £2.35 million a year, so Ogs looks fair value in comparison. Does anyone know how much Malky and Dave jones were on?

'If he sorts out the mess malky has left us in'. f**k off. Do you have the brain of a goldfish.

Part of me hopes he fails so people stop bitching on malky. if someone leaves the club you hate them, which is pathetic. Lets see where we are at the end of the season before you start calling a manager who you loved a month ago crap and loving a manager thats been in charge for 1 game.

We are a fine example of glory hunting fans that are after success at any cost. Even dragging a manager that got us promoted to the premier league for the first ever through the mud, after a few months on top flight football. we knew this would happen though didnt we? all the claims of 'We can get relegated with him, i dont mind as hes our best manager ever' Ye right

Not really no. What did you expect from our first season? top 10?.

The way some fans have treated Mackay I hope in the future they cant look back on our promotion or wins memorable wins over swansea, fulham, man city with any joy whatsoever.

Mackay got sacked, all he ever cared about was Cardiff, yet the fans now throw shit at him as if he resigned.

In the space of 3 weeks. Mackay is now a crap manager that left us in s****. Tan is the guy who hired saint jesus Solskjaer.

I just hoped wed show more class than be so quick to dismiss Mackays efforts for this club. Lets wait and see if Solskjaer does better than Mackay. its not a competition though is it. Mackays legacy should be fantastic yet already its been ruined by a minority.

And in a few months we would have been relegated without so much as a fight.

he lost the dressing room. The players showed whatthey thought on boxing day. A game where malky needed them and they couldnt be bothered.

My nan could of achieved what malky has with the money Tan has thrown about. If Ole had been manager from the stat of the season, we would be 6 points better off atleast

QPR spent like idiots, Ole will bring in 3/4 players to a team that's already capable of staying up. QPR brought in players who were looking for a pay cheque and did not give a fuk about the club. Atleast ole will bring in quality youngsters that will be at Cardiff for years to come

Our 'fans' being positive again I see. Some of our fans make me laugh with their negativity. Malky kept us out of the bottom 3 up until he was sacked and he would have done it all season I believe. You wait until Solskjaer loses a game and it will happen, we'll soon see a tide of abuse and negativity calling for his head. You'd swear alot of the fans on here were man utd fans before we got promoted last season. I really really really don't know what is expected of us apart from survival? There is nothing else. We are achieving it at present.

We are in a mess league wise. Only scored more than Palace and Fulham, fourth worst defence in the league.

last season should have been my best as a fan,it was not full of excitement,it was a drag, the ground never filled, and not many traveled, was unlike ANY promotion i have witnessed, i kept hearing the same thing over and over..IT WILL BE WORTH IT IF IT GETS US UP..............
Malky did ok, just ok, spent a fortune on a mega defensive team............he isnt welsh, doesnt support Cardiff, and knew very little about this club when he arrived..........it was a career move based on salary and budget.......as for all this part of you wanting no ties to fail, because you love mr red ties..........f**k off
