Cornelius' effort - pathetic!!

Sat Dec 28, 2013 11:01 pm

I can honestly say after his performance tonight, I never want to see Cornelius on the pitch for us ever again! For a start, it was the wrong decision putting him on. It was correct to take off Campbell because as usual, Campbell run himself into the ground, but when defending a lead, you need pace to counter. Cornelius is a target man who you throw on when you need a goal, but we didn't need a goal, we needed an outlet to run the ball into the corners, close the defenders down to make them rush their clearances. So I thought it was the wrong choice, but you would still think as a sub on the pitch for 10-15 minutes, Cornelius would actually TRY to put some effort in!

If it was up to me, I would have taken Campbell off and put Maynard on. If only Maynard was running at their last man one on one instead of Cornelius late on, if only Maynard came on to chase their defenders so they could panic, lash the ball into touch to kill time for us or pass back to their keeper to give our team time to push out and squeeze up the pitch, but no! On comes Cornelius to jog around for 10-15 minutes so their defenders can take their time, carry the ball forwards into our half and start attack after attack after attack! Cornelius' effort was absolutely pathetic, I never want to see him on the pitch ever again for us and he was the main reason we conceded the late equaliser!

Good post. Bit harsh, perhaps, but he really seems to be all at sea. We have bought the best strikers in Slovenia and Denmark, and both have proved a disappointment. Meanwhile, Southampton have bought Rodriguez from Burnley, and Lambert from the Gas!

Or, use a target man to hold up the ball, bring our midfielders into play. Create an easy outlet to our, already knackered players!
People like u av already made yr mind up about Cornelius, heaping pressure on him! Give him a chance, he may surprise us! :ayatollah:

You forgot to blame Tan for signing him

I'm still not going to write him off yet, He was brought on when we were ultra defensive.

I've seen Cornelius play at Forest Green, Cheltenham and Accrington before the majority of City fans have had the chance to see him. I gave him a chance because he got injured at Accrington (although he didn't impress me up there and even the Accrington fans were chanting "what a waste of money"). When Cornelius came on as a late sub at home to Man City, in those 2 minutes he didn't chase a defender once when we were hanging on. Tonight, he once again jogged around offering no effort or desire whatsoever. After tonight's pathetic lack of effort, I have now given up on him. If you're not prepared to put in effort, you're never going to improve as a player. I would rather someone of a lesser ability willing to run himself into the ground for us.

So why don't you apply for the managerial vacancy? You seem to know more than the rest of us put together.

And you should calm down a bit. It's not good for you, getting all worked up like that.

Cornelius has been piss poor on most games to be fair yes.

Re: Cornelius' effort - pathetic!!

I'll judge him when he plays a full 90 minutes. He only ever gets 10 minutes a game, the most he's ever played is 45 minutes and that was against Southampton when the whole team were playing shit, so he didn't exactly have a chance to shine.

I was slated when I said he could be a dud at the start of the season after being told by the Danes on planetswans that he wasnt Premier League standard.

Also when I made the point Malky signed too many for big money when you needed more players.... ;)

Hopefully he don't get a full ninety minutes, I don't think I could watch. You can get a good idea how poor he is by his positioning, first touch and the way he chases players then stops.

Crap buy

His attempt to control the ball when he had a chance to go one on one with the keeper was embarrassing, his non effort in chasing down was lazy.

he a total waste of space no better than rudy. he as got no pace cant control the ball and his work off the ball is pathetic.

Whether you care about my opinion is irrelevant.

The fact is, it is usually correct.

I remember people slagging of Mutch not long ago.

They were experts too.

Re: Cornelius' effort - pathetic!!

Double standards
Rudy hardly ever started
No one except me defended him
But lets defend over 8 million pounds worth of rubbish becouse he hasnt started a game
By the way rudy changed many a game when comingon and scored some important goals

Re: Cornelius' effort - pathetic!!

I would start Cornelious with Cambell just behind him, use him as a target man. remember when he come on at Liverpool, Marshall's goal kicks all day was retunred immediately by a liverpool player, Cornelious won 3 out of 4 headers and kept the ball in their half.
Before anyone says it no I do not think he's any different to Rudy (Just paid Astronomically higher!) and I saw him in Pre-Season and then I thought oh my god what have we bought!

I assume Forest Green, Cheltenham and Accrington were his previous clubs. He looked like a baby Elephant trying to cross a muddy river when he was one on one with the keeper. I can only assume that the real Cornelius is still playing for Copenhagen and we got his clumsy Twin Brother who could'n't hit a barn door with a banjo!!!

I will judge him after he's got a few games under his belt.To do so now is a tad harsh unless your a simpleton.

Not really. There is going to be a mass improvement from him just to be acceptable.

The only good thing I have heard from others is that he won a couple of headers against Southampton. Well for his height that is expected. How many headers did he lose?

After those headers what has he done? Chased, no, shown skill on the ground, no, run fast, no, one good pass, no, the next question, no.

I don't know what goes on at the training ground but if he is outperforming the likes of Maynard then all I can say is that Maynard must still be recovering from his injury or something daft like that.

He's got something-Potentiial  and thats all it is at the moment, unfortunately our state of the art recruitment department, with the aid of their well publicised dossiers went and paid £7 million too much for it and £35k more in wages, than they should have done  But hey, its only VTs money and as he's a slanty eyed foreigner, it doesn't matter

Alot of people don't realise running about upfront is harder than defending. Aimlessly chasing lost causes.

Spoken by a none footballer.
