He wrote classics such as Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Big Friendly Giant (BFG), Maltida, The Fantastic Mr Fox and James And The Giant Peach plus many others. Anyone of a certain vintage remember Tales Of The Unexpected? Yep, that was him too. Oh, and he was also a crackerjack WW2 fighter ace & intelligence officer. A massive City fan. Incredible guy. I salute you sir.

Great post!

His books are absolute genius as they appealed to everyone, children and adults alike. Completely bonkers but not so bonkers that you cannot relate to it. Often overlooked by many in this city but he is most certainly Cardiffs greatest son.
