Newport County

Sun Dec 15, 2013 12:37 pm

I know they're not very popular on here, but does anyone think they can achieve back to back promotions? With 20 games gone they have 34 points and sit 4th, one place outside the automatic promotion spots and 3 points off top.

Although I'm not that fond of them it would be nice to see them into League 1 and maybe Wrexham back in the league.

Good luck to them I say.doing really well, geeat for welsh football.as for wrexham!! They are dire rhis season.would need to go on a fantastic run just to make the play offs this year!

Re: Newport County

Sun Dec 15, 2013 12:54 pm

Only 3points off the top ain't they? Fairplay they've done exceptional so far this season, can see them going up through the playoffs. Theyve got good momentum, and a top manager in Justin Edinburgh, they will do well to keep hold of him

Re: Newport County

Sun Dec 15, 2013 12:55 pm

We've had massive injury problems and I think we have 5 first teamers out with a small squad. We've good habits from last season so can't see any reason why we can't go up again.

In terms of Welsh football, Merthyr are joint top if their league with a game in hand. Only 2 promotions off the Conference regional leagues

Re: Newport County

Sun Dec 15, 2013 1:10 pm

Merthyr actually have some backing now so it will be interesting to see how they do in the next few years.

As for Cewnty they need basically 14 more points to secure FL Status with 26 games left so it's great they've basically achieved their first goal this early in the season. If they can keep it up no reason they can't go up.

As for wham, the Conference baring maybe the Championship must be the hardest league to get out off. Really it should be given League status and three promotion spots. There will be a lot of money in that league soon and a lot of professionally built football clubs.

I just cant wait for us to play newport county.

To many fans of this generation dont have a clue what a bitter rivalry we have with this club, its worse than swansea and the only reason it has diminished is because county have been shit for so many years

You watch what happens if we draw newport in a cup any time soon

Most Cardiff fans never believed how much u lot hated us or would turn out. Cardiff were non existent that night, not like the 80's.

Yeah, I was.

One more night of my life I'll never get back.

Pathetic performance on the pitch and with at least half the crowd being County, pretty poor show from City's support.

Just hope we get you in the cup some time. My memories of playing you in the league were of massive followings from City at your place and poor ones from County at ours. Think you had more for that FAW game than you had for the last couple of league matches at Ninian.

Ah well done, hope it was all worth it when you picked up your pay-packet

Just hope you wasn't one of those many 'buffoons' present that night who thought they were OB, but in fairness the majority of the stewards were ok.

Love to have a game against County again. Games against, them Bristol City and Rovers were special.

Re: Newport County

Its strange in the 80's County, Rovers and of course City the Bristol variety were on our rival list. Swansea were there but not our number one

With respect Fella - WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP.

Are you from the 1990's era by any chance?

I have always looked on Newport as our "Little brother" club - and as far as saying the rivalry is more bitter than with Swansea, I think its all in your head?

I know loads of City fan's in and around Newport and the Gwent Valley's.

Like myself, In the 1970's, 80's City fans from Llanrumney, St mellons, casleton, Rumney, etc (east side) used to regularly attend night homes and Saturday homes when City were away at Somerton park corrugated Iron sheds !!!! :laughing6: :laughing6: .

The football was a good crack back then (although dire!!!) -John Aldridge, Nigel Vaughan, Tommy Tynan, etc and I never witnessed any trouble between fans.

Or maybe I'm just an old fart from a different generation who likes to see the good in everybody ?????????

Blooobirds !!! :old: :old:

Re: Newport County

Its only one way your right, but if we were in the same league or had an f.a cup matchat there ground the hostility would be as bad as swansea
it doesnt mmatter howmany cardiff fans will go to watch county they hate us simple as that
