Mine would be:
Marshall
KTC Caulker Hudson Taylor
Bellamy Mutch Kim Noone
Cornelius Campbell
With the view to going forward with wide men and a target man.
Your views/team??

Yeah leaving medel out was hard but I thought it would be good to see a team with a lot of attack minded players out there. I know medel will start for sure. Maybe a lot of changes will put a rocket up a few people e.g whittingham

We are good at home and not a great deal needs to be changed imo. But we need to go out to try and win this game so it's a 4-4-2 diamond for me.

If we go with two strikers I can't see Noone being on the pitch.

442 diamond with Medel dropping deep and Mutch in the attacking role

11 Marshalls id go for if possible then malky might get what hes going for a POINT

Marshall
Theo Caulker Medel John
Noone Mutch Kim Bellamy
Maynard
Cornelius
Subs: Lewis, Brayford, Taylor, Hudson, Gunnarsson, Whittingham, Campbell
Feck it - Attack, attack, attack
No Turner or Cowie in my match day squad not good enough.
Not going to happen though it will be 4-5-1 as per usual
Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:16 pm
I dont think its the personal thats playing more so the instructions, no matter who Malky players if he is giving them instructions to defend its pointless.
But for me

I think the overriding consensus is that we need to play a proper winger or two, and a couple of strikers.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Tue Dec 10, 2013 10:22 am
Some of these options are crazily attacking in nature but hey ho you may like goin gung ho!
If you look at teams who play a 4-3-3, the 3 midfielders have to be primarily defensive set or you get completely overrun like we did at Palace. Go to light weight with Whitts and Kimbo and your screwed. Mutch adds that (near) all rounder into the mix, along with a strong 2 to break down play and cover the back 4, especially with Beraniho in the free role that he plays.
The attacking nature of the 4-3-3, has to come nearly solely from the attacking 3 (with the all round midfielder providing support, ala Lampard, Gerard)
I would play:
Marshall
KTC. Caulker. Turner. John
Medel. Gunnarson
Mutch
Odemwingie Noone
Campbell
Campbell in my eyes is in by the skin of his teeth and benefits from a potential not match fit Cornelius.

To the two people on this thread who think Cowie should be anywhere near our first 11 in the premier league are pissed. He's shit and shouldn't be in our 25 man squad ffs. He's been awful but Malky still insists on playing him. Not my job on the line I suppose....

I think that's harsh as Cowie is good off the bench when defending a lead for the last 20 minutes. I agree though that he shouldn't be starting at this level.
Tue Dec 10, 2013 9:54 pm
Cowie is a useful player when used correctly.
Against a big club wide in a midfield with good wingers, yes get it.
Against lower league teams it's just waving the white flag.
Tue Dec 10, 2013 11:42 pm
Nanny mphail sounds like a women's name and no disrespect to females but you are clueless but again that is only my opinion .over the last 6 7 games he has probably been one of your better midfielders and I watch them every week not on a website

Cowie was awful at Palace but that's the only bad game he's had this season. Even at Palace, it was Cowie who put over a perfect cross for Campbell in the first minute. Who put the cross over for Hull's equaliser? Who put the corner over for our winner at home to Man City? Who is there to cover Theo when he goes bombing on? Who does the dirty side of the game closing opponents down, tracking runners, picking up loose balls and winning possession back? For the Whittingham's, Kim's and Noone's to flourish, you need a player like Cowie in there. Thankfully like you say, it isn't your job on the line!

4-2-3-1. Same formation used by Arsenal, Dortmund and Real Madrid.
Marshall
TC Caulker Turner John(if Taylor isn't fit)
Medel Mutch
Noone Kim Odemwingie
Campbell
These teams like to play proper football with this formation and like to use the 3 behind the striker as general attacking players which makes it hard to defend when their roles are often switching.
I've rested Whittingham(could do with one game out), with my faith in Noone or Kim to deliver any free kicks.

The amount of people asking for 4-4-2 are out of touch with football in general
4-4-2 is a dead system throughout the elite leagues in Europe as it's too open, I bet all of you suggesting it are the same ones saying our midfield is getting bypassed too easily well guess what it'll be worse with one less man tracking back ffs
If your going to suggest a system at least understand why your using it
West brom will play 4-5-1 and will easily cut through is if we play 4-4-2 so we have to play 4-5-1 now using this system isn't the problem it's how it's set out
Malky likes to use 5 central players as for some reason he doesn't like wingers or doesn't rate ours and to a degree you'd have to agree with him, Bellamy isn't up to it, which leaves us with just noone now he isn't proven at this level either so we got a dilemma really and anyone can see it, pow isn't an out an out winger either which is what is stifling us playing a different system and why we have whitts on the left tucking in where he is very ineffective and cowie on the right who'll run himself into the ground but he won't beat a man same goes for whitts he won't beat a man so we come inside consistently and that's why we seem ineffective and end up lumping it to a 5ft 10 striker this is Malkys fault and anyone who disagrees doesn't have a clue what they are talking about, he knows the squad he knows it's limitations and for me wingers should have been the top priority over the summer along with defense he failed to rectify it and it's showing
Now some will argue well we done well against arsenal and man city and yes your right and the reason was become both play through the middle and had they done there homework on us they'd have seen we play through the middle due to our lack of wide men so we managed to nullify them for large parts of the game as they played through arguably our strongest area of the pitch, man city's best goal came from wide and they made it look easy and dzekos thunderbolt was yes through the middle but there was no stopping that one
To beat west brom we will need width and for me the only formation is 4-5-1 but using the right players or beat we have for that formation right wing is the problem I belive he bought odemwingie last minute for this role but he's just not effective their at the moment
Marshall
Theo
Caulker
Turner
Taylor
Medel
Noone ( no alternative when needing width)
Mutch
Whitts (in centre space created by pulling men away to track wingers much more effective here)
Cowie ( stays as Bellamy not up to it, pow ineffective best option at moment)
Cornelius ( depends on fitness but give him a go, will hold up play being wingers into game and get on crosses and turners hoofs)
This team has better shape and balance and more height upfront gives us an outlet
Subs would be bellers on for cowie depending on how games going as Bellamy will be far more effective from the bench
If we losing you bring on striker so Campbell for whitts or Mutch and maybe Kim on for medel if losing really late on
4--4-2 ain't the answer lads we need January badly and I hope we got a big shopping list

Best suggestion all topic
Maybe not using noone this or pow as this formation doesn't require wingers as they get ripped through in CM/AM

I watch them every week too Tammy. And my opinion is that he's shit, runs all day but is not premier league I'm afraid. We need better if we want to stay at this level.

Anyone suggesting 4-4-2 needs their head examined.
Odemwingie behind Campbell/Cornelius is about the most offensive were going to get while still being practical.
If were just going to play Turner long balls too a forward we may as we'll go with Cornellius + whatever we've been playing recently.
Malky doesn't appear to think we've done too bad recently (he too needs his head examined) so the majority of the squad won't change, maybe a return for Bellamy (for Kim and put Whitts centrally).
