A forum for all things Cardiff City

That may not have been the best game of football I have witnessed but any point away from home in this division is a good point as far as I am concerned.
Stoke City are an established Premier League side and we have to earn the right and it does not come automatically that you go to any established Premier League club and expect a win.
On the journey up I said that if we could take a draw beforehand I would turn the coach around and go home satisfied.
Was it two points dropped or a point gained is the question ?
I think that is a point gained.
Of course it could have been better but I am taking the positives from that game, Declan John had a good game and got a decent shot off that troubled Bergovic.
I spoke to a couple of fans who think it is time for Whittingham to be dropped, I don't agree with that thought process.
There was even a couple of fans on their way out of the ground who were questioning whether Malky is the manager to keep up us up, hopefully that is just born from disappointment from not gaining three points and nothing more.
It was a battling game where skill and entertainment weren't in high demand but we have come away with a point and a clean sheet.
I will happily take a point on the road at any ground as long as our home form against the expected lower half teams result in wins.
Malky seemed happy with the point walking off.
The team will stay in Stoke tonight and tomorrow they will head over to Croydon.
See you all at Palace for a win

I think it's a point gained with a few positives but when we made the change I felt the game was there for tje taking and we could have went two up top.
Cornelious should have been stripped and ready to come on when we got the late corner too, but I'm happu with a point & clean sheet and bring on Palace!

Drop whitts he is shit

Whitts to be dropped

We cant pass the f*cking ball as it is lets drop one of the only two pkayers we have who are comfortable in posession

And whos dead balls have been a source of half our goals this season.
Strewth.

It is a good point but when a team play that bad against you and are in the form they are in we need to take advantage of it , by the next time we play them they will have added to their squad and could be a much harder proposition .
I think it was a massive opportunity missed and 2 very winnable points dropped .
any point away from home is a good point but chances like that away won't come round often

In the words of Northamptonblues, 'Whittingham is a complete luxury. His dead balls are abysmal. Never beats the first man and is struggling to even strike the ball properly.'

Sorry carl but those I spoke to after the game were all saying whittingham is not playing well enough
And should be dropped
Even his set pieces are now not good enough
Malky negative substitutions and starting eleven could end up seeing us relegated
Cant agree that way draws are good enough especially at teams who are struggling
At stoke tonight if we had a go im sure we would have won they were definatly there to be taken
Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:15 pm
We need to be more aggressive upfront it's time to drop Peter Odemwingie unfortunately he's not effective in our current setup. Cornelius deserves more pitch time with Noone on the wing, we need quality crosses. Medal, Mutch and Whitts will battle in midfield.
Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:20 pm
Carlos I agree totally with you on your first part of your post, a good point tonight
Peter Whittingham I said last season Whitts is not Premier League and I stand by it,We dropped Whitts last season and did well, drop Whits again please Malky, he is not good enough my strong opinion
Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:20 pm
Any point away is decent but we have to pick up more wins, how many wins is that in the last 10 games or so? All these draws won't be enough unless we start picking up more 3 points.

Good post mate. It wasnt the easiest game to watch and I thought Stoke were there for the taking but I'll take a point at an established top flight club like Stoke. Some people need to get a grip on reality. 17th or above is the only objective this season
Anything else is a luxury

There's no getting away from it, Whitts had an off game tonight, possibly not helped by having to play out wide, as opposed to his usual central position, where he has been playing quite well!
One poor game isn't an excuse to justify dropping him IMO though and especially in a game where both sides struggled with their passing and delivery into the danger areas!

Whittingham was very poor tonight. His set pieces were below his usual standards also.
Come on Whitts.
Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:33 pm
We got into some decent positions but everyone's final ball tonight was poor
Theo - Catherine got forward a few times into a decent crossing situation but shocking delivery every time

Hes been playing well in the centre ridiculous to move him back out wide to accomodate Gunnarson who is out of his depth at this level.
So f*cking negative its unreal.

Agree. Sublime pass and an echo of his previous form. Players form is often inconsistent and I think that Whitts form tail-end of last season dipped from exhaustion - he was for the most part key to MM's tactics. So we were sussed for a bit with oppo playing thick midfield to isolate his threat. Form dipped from there. And he's also playing out of his best position at the moment. I think that Whitts is actually on the curve back up and will be a key component again. Not a great game tonight but an away point in the PL for a promotion side assimalting a presence is precious.

I suppose you can either play it safe or take a gamble for a better outcome... playing it safe is fine but now and then we should take a gamble and go for the win

Off topic but watching MOTD and Steve Bruce's face looks like a Applejohn. But then Lawros face looks like a geriatrics ballsack.

Not sure about Gunnar being out of his depth, but I suspect Malky put him in tonight for his greater physical presence!
I had no problem with his starting line up, but felt Whitts should have been moved back inside in the second half, with Gunnar being replaced with a wide man, like Noone or Odemwingie, who I would never play up front, unless we were hit hard by injuries, suspensions, or just otherwise desperate!

What you fail to see Carl is that it was a point gained because Stoke were crap.

Ian, I am an optimist and you are a pessimist, it is simply that.

I should remind you about your comments before the Jack game

Is this a wind up who put the ball in against united? Pretty sure it was the ratty looking fella called whittingham??
An away draw isn't good enough? Surely better than an away loss?
Maybe if we'd had a go we might have lost 2-0? Swings and roundabouts, anyone who thought malky would go all about in these two away games clearly is very clueless when it comes to Malkys tactics as this is how we have played for two years now!
He will continue to play like this home and away in big games that we need to pick points up in and he will go for it home against teams we have little or no chance against, I'd say logically it makes sense although at home I would like to see him go for it more against the lesser teams we have played away so far only time will tell on that front but I still expect him to play conservative football, signings in January will make the difference quality winger in and a playmaker and I'd expect our Tactics to change if we don't get the winger especially then it's more hoofball with a compact midfield and 10 men consistently behind the ball
