Peter Whittingham

....he does what he wants.

Two assists today. One a sublime pass, the other his usual perfect set piece.

Alex Ferguson once said Charlie Adams left foot delivery was worth 10m alone, well if thats the case Whitts delivery is worth 30m minimum.

As we go through the season and the players get use to the premier I do feel a few of them will shine a lot more than what we think. Don't be surprised if Whitts finds his vocation here in the prem.

Whitts played the pass that give Mutch the time to pick the pass to Campbell. Superb pass by Mutch but Whitts defo assisted in that first goal.

He shits out of too many tackles for my liking. Its as if we are carrying him until a corner or free kick.

He was class today, doesn't get the recognition he deserves. He did make one poor pass, which was very poor, but everything else was fantastic.

The guy behind me was the same as usual though "What does Whittingham have to do to get subbed, f*cking shithouse"

Who gives a flying f**k when he can pass like he did in the build-up to the first goal, and deliver a free-kick like he did for the second goal.

95% pass completion and 3 chances creates, the most on our team :ayatollah:

Yet Glenn Hoddle was paising him in the Sky studio today. Craig for the next Sky pundit!!! :laughing5:

You want to go to 'Specsavers'! Whitts had the most touches in the game - 76; the highest percentage of completed passes - 95%; equal highest number of interceptions - 2; and finally, the most completed long passes - 9, which is one of the hardest things to achieve. You rarely see 9 completed long passes in a game from a whole team let alone by one top player.(stats from The Premier League Owl).

I'll try to be kind here. It's not his job to be a midfield enforcer. His job is to pass the ball and create chances. His pass completion today was 95 per centand he played a major part in our two goals. Job done.

If you really think we're carrying Whitts I fear for your game analysis skills.

Surprised me this season, but massively helps that we try and play football more this season. Last season we played like a 90s Wimbledon team.

Very calm on the ball, retention is superb.

It's funny how watching a game back can make you appreciate a player better.

At the game I couldn't really see what Whitts offered but watching it back on the telly and you can see he was absolutely top class. 95% pass completion against Man Utd is just outstanding. Cleverly and Fellaini were reduced to fouling him whenever he had the ball.

Whitts was slow and totally off the pace, he was second best to everything! How you can say he was our best player is totally baffling! Great delivery from the free kick late on, but that aside, we need someone with the same quality, but more speed and energy in there to partner Mutch and Medel. Mutch and Medel were both absolutely outstanding today, as was Cowie!

people said the same of Glen Hoddle, {but that aside? }. he played a big part in both goals, he isnt all action , doesnt make 20 tackles a game, dont win headers, but that is why its eleven aside, different players contribute different things. whrn we have the ball he works his nuts off to always be available, and when we do not have the ball he generally is very good with angles, preventing players from making certaian passes because he is inbetween them and where they would like to pass the ball { this doesnt happen by accident }..i do agree about Medel,Mutch and Cowie. in fact all 14 were outstanding.we came from behind twice against the league champions so they had to be?

Re: Peter Whittingham

thought whitts was superb today, best player with Mutch just behind him.

How anyone can question Whittingham is beyond me, hes been doing it for years for us, and has been more good than bad this season in the best league in the world.

Today he was the best midfielder on the pitch, no question about that.

You should have gone to Specsavers

Re: Peter Whittingham

He finally contributed in an attacking sense yesterday. I think his main problem is that he receives the ball under pressure a lot of the time and has to make his passes too quickly. The ball for Mutch to ass on to Campbell was superb and what Whitts does best. Great free kick too and he wasn't far away with a snap shot form outside the box - his best game of the season so far for me.

Yep me too

Being pushed back inside, with the security of Gary behind him, suits him better than being stuck on the wing as his lack of pace is highlighted more out there, and at this level.

That's not two assists then is itttttttttttttttttttt!? But true though,I am a big fan of Whitts too! His deliveries of free kicks and corners are as good as anyone. With Cornelius back.. I think every set piece adds more goal scoring opportunity :ayatollah:

So Whitts didnt assist in the scoring of that first goal?

His pass to Mutch was as important as Mutch to Frazier. In fact they were alsmot identical passes.

Re: Peter Whittingham

The more I watch it, the better his pass to Mutch seems. A brilliantly weighted pass which didn't leave the ground at all, straight to his feet. Then Robbie Savage said Mutch's pass was a one off but oh well
