A forum for all things Cardiff City

I've run into a moral dilemma.
I vociferously oppose the re-branding and would rather die than wear any red merchandise.
I spoke to my cousin today, who is the mother of my godson, to ask her what she would like me to buy him for Christmas. Her side of the family are massively into Rugby, your stereotypical family that come out for Welsh Internationals and prefer Rugby over football because it's "a proper man's sport". They know nothing about football or Cardiff City. You know the type.
Anyway, she said that my godson has started to play football in school and he loves it [great to see that brainwashing doesn't work]. She said he has started supporting Cardiff City and would really like a Cardiff City shirt. She also said he would like the red one as it's the shirt he has seen them wearing when he's watched them on the telly.
Obviously this puts me in a nasty little situation as I feel so strongly about the rebrand and I don't want to support the rebrand in anyway. I also don't want to contribute to more digusting red shirts being out in circulation.
BUT
It's my frickin godson and it's what he wants for Christmas. I can't have a kid feeling disappointed at Christmas.
It looks like I will have to get it for him as I'll feel a lot worse disappointing a child than I would feel seeing another red shirt in circulation.
I hate Tan for making us feel this way.

As a God parent you have a moral duty. Get him a blue replica and tell him he should be greatful for what he receives. That's in the Lords prayer that bit.

Easy, call the little bugger a sellout and a plastic and give his mother a slap for not educating him properly.

Or you could give the mother the money for a shirt thus not have to put yourself a moral dilemma. Or tell him you'll not only make him a proper supporter but you can let him into even more prestigious blue club if he gets a blue shirt.

Bloody Jonny come lately's where was he in the dungeon days of the 90's.
A red Cardiff City shirt on a kid is better than a Man U or Wales rugby.........

Not a dilemma get him what he wants dont let your feelings spoil his Christmas.
I did a similar thread a while ago, id never wear the red but I have no problem with others wearing it and no problem buying it for others. My nephew was in the Red team for sports day so he wanted either a Red Rugby Top or a Red Cardiff Top so it was a no brainier for me (not surprising he didn't want a wales football top

).
He likes his red top but he also likes the blue tops he has

Give him a gift voucher to the value of a shirt.
Someone else then makes the decision.

Don't get him the red shirt, get him the whole kit!
Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:29 pm
Get him the yellow shirt just to confuse things.
Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:31 pm
I don't see this as a simple Red or Blue issue.
I see a much bigger picture..
I see a youngster as many accross South Wales on years gone by before them Asking for a Premier League top for a present.
Just instead of a Liverpool Manutd etc etc, he is asking for a Cardiff Top.
Get him a Red And Blue one...
Let him make his own choice
Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:33 pm
Buy the kid the blue shirt
Tue Nov 19, 2013 11:19 pm
just buy the shirt for the kid, the rebrand is not the kids faults, he supports us now and he sees the red it what he only knows, even if u buy the shirt its not for you and u keep ur principles but don't let the colour of the shirt get in the way of making ur godchild happy

Tough situation. I think you should do the right thing though and buy him the shirt, he's only a kid and it's not like you're buying it for yourself.

Buy him a blue one. If he is old enough then explain to him why wearing red is morally the wrong thing to do. By resetting his moral compass and guiding him on the path to righteousness then I am sure that he will develop into a fine upstanding individual who will be a credit to his family in years to come. This could be the most precious gift that you ever give to him.

Buy it online from the club shop - you won't have to handle it or be seen buying it then...
Wed Nov 20, 2013 11:49 am
No 'moral' dilemma. People who buy red shirts are not immoral.
This is a matter of principles, to which everyone has their own. For some it is a matter of principle, for others it is not.
Wed Nov 20, 2013 11:57 am
buy him a blue one, he'll be happy with that!
Wed Nov 20, 2013 12:07 pm
Show him a dvd with Cardiff playing in a blue top, tell him that's the one you like, job done he ll want the blue one then
Wed Nov 20, 2013 1:51 pm
Just get him the red top if that's what he wants. Most importantly get over yourself. Its not really that big a moral dilemma. You could get him something else and let his mum buy the top.

Same problem my boys is 7 and has been down the city since he was 4 so he knows about the blue and does prefer it ,also cos i like it ,but he does like the red as well but kids want what they see ,he wants them for xmas so even though I have boughT nothing in the shop since it was changed (colour and shit badge) its what he wants so I will be buying him a blue kit name and numbered and get one of the family members to but him a red top, after all its xmas and kids want certain things, hate seeing him disappointed if he doesn't get what he wants and at the moment he is really into his football,AND IT IS XMAS
