Andreas Cornelius ready to play in private Cardiff City friendly against Yeovil Town.

Cardiff's big-money summer signing begins his road to fitness today, with boss Malky Mackay keen to ease him in gently after a series of injury troubles
Centre-forward Andreas Cornelius returns to playing action against Yeovil Town away today.
The young Dane has been out injured for more than two months, but has been given the go-ahead to start in a private friendly against Championship club Yeovil.
“We want Andreas back playing and it’s been frustrating for him, but I have to look at the situation carefully and so do Cardiff City’s medical people,” said manager Malky Mackay.
Danish international Cornelius, 20, first suffered an ankle injury during pre-season training, while he was then hurt again by a fierce tackle during Cardiff’s Capital One Cup win at Accrington Stanley at the end of August.
Only now, 10 weeks later, is the former FC Copenhagen forward, who signed a five-year contract when he signed for Cardiff last summer, ready to play again. He is expected to play for up to an hour against Yeovil.
Cornelius played a couple of minutes as a substitute during City’s 3-2 Premier League win against Manchester City, while he started against Accrington before being helped off at half-time after being injured.
He was honoured during the Danish FA awards in Copenhagen this week, collecting Superliga Player of the Year and Young Talent trophies, before flying back to prepare for today’s match at Yeovil.
“Those trophies came from the work he did during his breakthrough year in Denmark,” said Mackay. “He did fantastically well and that’s why we bought him. He is, at 20-years-old, young and has major potential.
“Andreas has signed a long-term contract, but unfortunately took a couple of nasty knocks to his ankle straightaway.
“We hope he will start against Yeovil where he will get his first run-out for a while. We’ll see how he is and it’s important we bleed him back in gently.
“We want him back playing, but I have to look different ton and so do our medical people. We will make sure he is absolutely ready and his ankle is strong when he is fully available.
“It’s been frustrating for Andreas. He is young and wanted to make an impact after the season he had in Denmark which led to him winning two national awards.
“He wants to come into a new country and show what he can do. He’s young and it hasn’t been easy for him to get his head around what has happened.
“But he’s a great lad and what he has is potential. I firmly believe that in the long-term he is going to be an outstanding signing for Cardiff City.”
French striker Rudy Gestede is on the mend from a knee injury, while Peter Odemwingie is expected to be back in full training next week after feeling tightness in a leg muscle after Cardiff’s Premier League match at Aston Villa.
Joe Mason’s proposed loan move to Bolton Wanderers was put on hold while Gestede and Odemwingie were in the treatment room at Cardiff’s Vale of Glamorgan Resort training headquarters.
It is expected Mason will complete his loan transfer to Championship club Bolton as soon as Gestede and Odemwingie are given the all clear.

I have read so much crap on here about this kid. Slagging him off etc. The lad hasn't had a chance to show us what he can do when fully fit yet. I think he is a brilliant signing and by the end of the season everyone will be singing his praises. Enough from me watch this video it will show you all you need to know -

Unfortunatley when he gets his first team chance what sort of service is he going to receive? To me he doesn't seem to be the sort of front man to live of scraps. He needs top quality crosses!!

I agree, people should not be getting on his back but looking at his range of goals in my opinion i think he is the missing piece to Malky's jig saw!

I was in Sweden on business just after we beat the Jacks. A business contact of mine who had seen the game commented how many Jacks games get screened in Denmark/ Sweden due to the Laudrup connection. He went on to comment about Cornelius who he saw play a lot last season. This guy, who knows his football, reckons he's the business and was full of praise. He's looking forward to seeing more of our games televised over there once this kid is fit and up and running. IMHO, although he is inexperienced he has something none of our so called strikers have which is physical presence. Come to think of it how much Premier League experience do Campbell/ Maynard/ Rudi have between them. We shouldn't get too hung up over it....

Explain why you think he is Shit? You got to have a very good reason because we haven't seen him play yet, or are you just talking shit like a typical jack

He's either a Jack or he must have been a hell of a player himself!

I know it's all about opinions but it baffles me how some so called fans can write Cornelius off based on the short amount of game time he's had, shocking

Because since getting promoted some fans expect instant success and anything less isn't good enough

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can offer, but I agree with a previous poster who said that he needs top quality service. Maybe Bellamy could be the provider?

Great news
I'm sure he'll be gradually eased in and it'll be worth the wait. I can see us buying a winger or two in January. I think the reason why this wasnt addressed in the summer is because we've had to play a waiting game with certain parties. People can moan all they want. Yes we need a quick, creative winger who can pin defenders back, but they don't grow on trees. Ince turned us down and Montero was covered in red tape. Things change quickly though and one of these could well be with us in January. Why are some fans so impatient? There's a thread below saying we should change our style of play more towards Hull and West Brom
Hull have won a monumental one more game than us, while West Brom are on the same amount of wins

We definitely need a right winger, I've noticed Cardiff seem to favour playing up the right
