Invite Only Forum

Is it time to make the site invite only? There are plenty of posters to keep it ticking over and those who have high post counts and usually contribute to good debate albeit sometimes tedious are posting less than less these days which is surely damaging the forum.

If the forum was invite only you would have someone to vouch for each new member. If a member comes on and trolls then the person who sent them the invite should be queried and asked why he/she is inviting troublesome posters to the boards.

The forum may very well be all about hits but the likes of taffyapple have already left and he used to post often in many different areas (politics, football, etc.) and encouraged good debate with his style of post. Sven, now a moderator is another who has a style of post that is good for debate.

Look at the Norwich forum for example. It's posts are about football and the view count is still high so if hits are a factor then its not a problem. Of course this would make it difficult to sign up but it also keeps the place clean of bad posters and aids the forming of a more respectable online community.

The trolls will dispute this but its the best way. If every current member has 5 invites then thats 5 family members or friends they can invite to the forum and that's good imo. If a troll gets 5 invites they can create 5 new accounts by inviting themselves and once those 5 accounts are banned then thats game over as new accounts will need to hit a post limit or whatever before being given an invite.

It can be done with PHPBB3 extension and something is definitely needed to be done to bring a sense of calming and respect to the forum where posters can debate properly before this becomes yet another chaotic forum full of trolls like others have done. If you leave a country open to be abused you can't complain when criminals or scroungers come in and abuse the system so you can't do the same if trolls come in and abuse the system to an open forum.

Not really. I agree with Roathie sometimes just to avoid a circular argument. I do the same with Brenda Chuckles. However, today Roathie has upped the ante saying he'll create new accounts if his avatar is changed for him which is incredibly immature given its only an online forum.

That will lead to the forums eventual demise and death when posters of such nature keep leaving and the place is left as a cesspit of trolls going round in circular arguments. Trust me, I know. I have been a moderator on numerous forums bigger than this and I have trolled myself and have come across trolls much worse than Roathie and they've been dealt with.

I'm led to believe that there are moves to make a new forum where everyone has to register with their address and home phone number which will be checked before acceptence, it will put pay to the trolls who infest this site.

JB,CG doesn't post on here much because roath magic is allowed and thats a fact.His content is far better than the trolls too.Anonymity is the internet equivalent of larger and people like RM and Angelis are alco's, really brave when the beer talks.Don't you remember when angelis thought he'd been hacked a few months ago-even I could smell the fear.

I have mates and family on here so yes as I could have easily gotten an invite. Even if I had to prove who I was before signing up I'd have done so. Plenty of other forums do it fine.

This is a Cardiff city forum, why would a Swansea section be created?

There could be a ccfc only section and a section for other football talk mind.

There is an "Invite Only" forum.

It was the 1927 Club but agreements have been made. London Bluebirds is the open forum for everyone, the former "1927 Club" is for those with more sinister opinions.

This was a very good MB. Now its totally DE-based, just like one or two others i can think of.

I used to be involved in a car forum, and the way they worked was you payed £10 annually to become a member on the site! It worked very well, plus for your membership the mods had organised discounts from loads companies so it almost felt like you were getting your membership free.
I'm not sure if this has already been considered but it would surely detract a lot of teeny boppers and non Cardiff supporters!
