Another reason why there's no atmosphere at our ground

and other Premiership grounds.

The average age of a season ticket holder is now 42 :o
20 years ago it was 24
Surely all us old bastards are too long in the tooth to be arsed with continuous singing and chanting. I reckon this statistic has just as much to do with the poor atmospheres as all seated stadiums.

It's a good point. Are youngsters being priced out of football?

As you dont go to any games, then I wouldnt expect you have any idea on what the actual atmosphere is like at grounds these days. The atmosphere in our own ground in relation to other premiership grounds has been fantastic. However in general, good atmosphere's in the last 10-20 years are decreasing year by year. Why do you think Villas Boas has criticised his own fans and Man utd have introduced a singing section.

Spot on Chuckles, its way too expensive, the football authorities have a ticking time bomb, if they dont act. If that trend keeps progressing, then the grounds will be full of geritatrics  some atmosphere that will be

So if your atmosphere is excellent and last year it was crap, then its improving surely?

Either someone is telling porkies or you have had a good atmosphere for a 1 game and got some plaudits.

"These days" you make it sound like ive been out of the UK for decades :D

Im making the point that people are now saying there is "no atmosphere" at your grounds when last moth everyone on here was saying it was amazing. Which is it to be? :?

Re: Another reason why there's no atmosphere at our ground

Our atmosphere has been great this season, but I've noticed the older heads are the quieter ones.

If anyone went to the Huddersfield cup game in 2011 or the Wales Macedonia game a few weeks ago, they'll notice most of the people creating an atmosphere were teenagers or young adults. Just not enough to make it loud enough

I'm not just talking about our ground, that's why I said other Premiership grounds, keep up  The point is, we all know that the atmosphere at all Premiership games these days is predominantly crap, there is very little and one of the main reason is the lack of younger/teenager supporters, who tend to have the most energy, enthusiasm and should therefore generate the most noise on a regular basis

Yes i understand your point. But you opened up with... "Why is there no atmosphere in our ground".

Ive asked for clarification and was told your atmosphere is now good which goes against what you are suggesting its down to. And now you saying its predominantly crap again. Is it good or is it crap? :?

The atmosphere is good in comparison to most other Premiership grounds, but the atmosphere overall in premiership grounds is generally crap. Does that make sense?? :laughing5:

Not really. The atmosphere was dire last year, there were constant threads here requesting opinion how to improve it and that you could hear the players calling for the ball. So if this year it has improved and is now "good" while ticket prices have gone up then it sort of renders your point a bit null and void doesnt it?

Wind your neck and stop being a smart arse !! He has a very good point and was the topic of conversation on talk sport today as to why the atmosphere is poor in allot of football grounds!! We may be bucking the trend due to it being our first season in the premiership!!

We can do but the novelty of the Prem seems to be waning as does the atmosphere. Was electric in the first season, good in the second and from what I can gather from my sources this year as well as the TV - its pretty average.

Bring back terraces, all seater stadiums spoilt the atmospheres, old Trafford 78000 ish - can you imagine old Trafford being all terraces, the noise would be electric

Are kids as interested in going?

A lot more home entertainment, the world is a smaller place with travel getting easier, lots more for them to do these days.

Even in the last few years technology has made it easier to watch every single game, something that kids tech minded can stream easily.

Im 55 and i love a good sing song in the ground,i think this season the atmosphere has been brill,a mate of mine from Gelli whos a Spurs fan managed to get corporate tickets for their game said he was very impressed with the atmosphere :ayatollah:

Re: Another reason why there's no atmosphere at our ground

I'd say the atmosphere is generally better in the championship which is what we could only really benchmark ourselves against. However, this season being in a league full of libraries our atmosphere is going to feel better as we are now comparing our noise to a different set of clubs. Obviously it will be louder in the bigger games but that's my take on it.

its only feels 'amazing' as been so crap for so long. as said above we have been commended on our atmosphere by most pundits but they are used to the normal shit atmosphere of most premiership grounds. im 38 and in the family end with my kids and the atmoshpere in there is much better this season get quite a lot of songs going where previous season songs died before they could get going in the family end

As a city fan of many years I think there are several reasons why as the OP says atmosphere isn't as good as the old days. All seater stadiums play a massive part in all this.Anybody that was on the bob bank back in the day will no doubt remember the absolute crush at the exit at the time of the final whistle. Its things like this plus disasters like Hillsborough meant things had to change. Also,I now believe we are paying the price for all those years when the hooligan element of football culture ruled. Its why you will never get safe standing next to the away section of the ground because what would start as innocent banter would soon descend into somthing out of the 1990's.It ain't like it used to be and as long as the authorities have their way it will never be again.
