Vincent Tan-"Poor signings, we should be in the top four!"

Thursday 10th October 2013.

Malky Mackay was more determined than ever not to be forced out of Cardiff City on Wednesday night as the club denied rumours their manager had been asked to resign by owner Vincent Tan.
Several significant figures at the club fear the manager’s relationship with Malaysian millionaire Vincent Tan has been damaged beyond repair.

But Mackay will not walk away from the club he led to the Championship title last season, even though he is known to be furious about the decision to put his head of recruitment, Iain Moody, on gardening leave.

Going nowhere: Cardiff have denied claims Malky Mackay had been asked to leave the club by Vincent Tan

Strained relationship: It's understood Mackay's relationship with Cardiff owner Tan (right) has deteriorated
Sportsmail understands the private reasoning behind Tan’s decision was Moody’s alleged £15million overspending during a summer transfer spree, that totalled approximately £34m, though there are suggestions from club insiders that the motives could be more Machiavellian than that.

Tan is said to be unconvinced by the quality of some of the players signed and believes the club should be in the top four.

A farcical edge has been added by the identity of the man the club have temporarily appointed in Moody’s place, with Kazakhstani Alisher Apsalyamov having no known previous experience of working in football.
The fact Apsalyamov is believed to be in the country on a temporary visa is just one peculiar aspect of this bizarre saga.

Replaced: Head of recruitment Iain Moody (left) is currently on gardening leave, much to Mackay's annoyance
It has emerged that in addition to attending a Swiss finishing school with Tan’s son, U-Jiun, he was painting walls at the club’s stadium barely three months ago.

Mackay was last night understood to be livid, not just for the way he has been undermined but more fundamentally because he does not agree with the action against his close friend, a man he has singled out for praise many times.
Senior staff at the club only learned of the decision early on Tuesday afternoon, when an email to all department heads and select members of the football operation were told Moody was suspended pending an investigation. That situation was then amended a couple of hours later when it was said Moody would be placed on gardening leave with full pay.

Wanting more: Tan (pictured with Lord Kinnock) believes the club should be in the Premier League's top four
Sportsmail has been told the size of Cardiff’s summer spending was the reason given to certain individuals for the disciplinary reaction, with Tan allegedly angry the money spent did not include wages and other fees.
Mackay’s relationship with Tan had already been tested by the row over player bonuses. Tan had enraged the players by refusing to fork out a seven-figure sum to go into an end-of-season bonus pot, though he later relented and made an offer that was still some way below what the playing staff expected.

Loyal: Despite being angry at Tan's decisions, Mackay won't walk away from the club he helped to promotion
Mackay stepped in to mediate on that issue, though it’s understood the players made it clear they did not want to see Tan in the dressing room.

Tan has caused no shortage of controversy since taking over in 2010. Last year, he provoked protest marches because of his rebranding, that saw the club change their primary colour from blue to red and alter their crest.

Tan expects top 4 . .......

I said after the West Ham away defeat in August that Tan was fuming at Upton Park and could not understand how Cardiff could lose with all the money he had lent us. Tan only believes in being a winner, so sadly Malk'ys days are numbered.

This is shocking ....

If true.

So no actual quotes then

Ridiculous story. Tan maybe crazy but hes not that crazy.

In his only "quotes" on the subject he just wants to stay in the PL and finish as high up as possible.

I don't believe for a second VT thinks we should be top 4. He can see what other teams have spent this season and in the past.

I could believe if he was disappointed with some of the money spent - velinkonja, kiss, noone, Lappin to name a few who have not really cut it. Jury still out on cornelius with his injury of course. Brayford seems a strange one when we signed another RB soon after.

A lot of money tied up there that hasn't really reaped any rewards as yet.

Annis that's very correct. He was totally livid. He was furious.

I was driving that day and the West Ham fans were pissing themselves as Tans actions and mood.

It left the British members of the Cardiff City Board bewildered too and wandering around like soulless sheep.

This is the problem Tan cant take defeat, we all dont like losing but Tan believes his power and his money gives him the divine right to win everything in life at all costs.

Spend roughly £30m and get top 4? Bloody hell, Liverpool spent more than that on Andy Carroll alone.

Tan has said many times, that "the main priority this season is to maintain our premier league status God willing, but we know it will be tough" never heard him mention top4 finishes. Seems like the media are making it up as they go along. Ofcourse tan wants results. Hes got a massive investment in us getting results. But not even he expects us to finnish in the top4 ffs

Re: Vincent Tan-"Poor signings, we should be in the top four

Thu Oct 10, 2013 10:26 am

tan has said time and time again staying the premier league is the goal, no quotes to suggest we should be in top four, its just another way to slate tan, its getting old now, yes tans a bit of his rocker but seriously I could say tan just inboxed me on facebook asking if I could replace malky and people would believe it!

I don't buy into this £15m overspend excuse. When all the fans were moaning at the lack of transfers into the club, when we had only signed Cornelius, the club released a statement about it's transfer methods. This involved potential players being scouted, then a dossier being compiled by Ian Moody, then Malky inspecting the player and dossier before Vincent Tan being given ALL THE DETAILS before a yes or no decision was made by VT. Now were led to believe that a billionaire can't add up transfer fees for a few players and realise we're overspending the budget. No way, as I stated on an earlier post about 'there is no such thing as bad publicity', I think this is all to do with marketing the club for flotation on the stock exchange.

I am sure VT said that the highest aim is to finish above Swansea but the main aim to stay up.

I think the nature of the West Ham defeat shocked him and it was a very poor defeat.

But since then, except the first half with Newcastle, we've done very well!

The Daily mail wrote that story not Tan funny how many will believe any story just to have a pop.
How come the same people don't quote what Tan has actually said about where he wants us to finish?
I support cardiff city not Tan although i think he has good and bad points but someone can post anything bad about Tan or the club and the usual posters all believe it which is laughable..
And why are fans having ago at him for being pissed off at west ham because we lost? I was really pissed off and i didnt invest millions nor was i there.
Years ago i remember reading a certain sam hammam going to the dug out and dressing room in an irate manner because we had lost but funny how that would be put down as sam being passionate :laughing6:

I too don't believe this 15m overspending. The Independent did a piece the other night about all our summer signings not having Malky's name or Moody's name on the players contracts, it was Simon Lim's name on the contracts. I have no proof of this apart from the Independent story, but if true, for Malky to be blamed when Simon Lim agreed to put his name to the players contracts to authorise the signings is bizarre to say the least. Surely if Tan thought we were paying too much, Lim wouldn't have been allowed to put his name to the contracts? Tan pulled the plug on the Wanyama deal after all as he thought Southampton were asking too much for him!

Something else I have been told which I'm unsure is 100% true or not, is that Tan thought the fees we paid for players this summer INCLUDED the wages, bonuses etc all as one package! This probably led to the players bonuses row. Can anyone confirm it's correct Tan did indeed think the transfer fees included the players wages, bonuses etc? There's a lot of nonsense in the press but as Tan knows nothing about football, none of this would surprise me if true!

And fans are quick to believe it.. Tan is not making it easy for himself though and would be nice for the club to make some sort of statement to exlain what's going on

all sounds like southampton last season,, except they knew who would replace adkins and knew how they wanted to play..I should imagine tan as no plan in place, and rely on red shirts for luck..

never a dull moment at the city.. we needed a crisis, its been going to smoothly.. and we not used to that.

i heard kumar coming back next week too

Perhaps he was puzzled as to why, after spending £30 million, we still had the same midfield and attack as in the Championship
