Why are fans 'expecting' 3 points saturday?!

Wed Sep 25, 2013 1:14 pm

A few things have puzzled me on here this season.

The first thing is that people can't seem to wait criticise our own players, tactics, style of play etc.
I don't think there is anything wrong with disagreeing with squad or tactic selection and indeed surely that is one of the main reasons for a cardiff city message board, but some people on here seem to love slating our players and club which is something I find bizarre!

The second thing I find a bit puzzling is that people are expecting us to go to places like fulham and pick up 3 points like we are playing darlington away!
Why do people thing that going to Fulham is gonna be such a walkover?

In Dimitar Berbatov alone, they have Man Utd's most expensive signing ever! They have Darren Bent, champions league winner riise, taraabt who raped us twice for qpr, scott parker as well as many other top players.
I remember the jacks getting promoted a few years ago and they were just happy to enjoy the ride (half expecting to be relegated), but our fans (forum users especially) seem to think that we have the divine right to beat anyone.

I'm not saying we cant beat fulham, but what I am saying is that I won't be surprised if we come away from craven cottage with nothing on saturday. It's gonna be a long, hard season lads and I dont think false expectations are a good thing. We have done superbly to get off to a decent start this season and anyone who thinks we should abandon the tactics we have adopted so far this season and go all out attack is mental imo. I'm happy to adopt the same tactics and hopefully we may get a bit more of the ball to counter with than we have against the likes of Spurs.

I'd take a draw now

Same against hull, it's laughable.

And what are 6 pointers, i always thought it was 3pts for a win

Re: Why are fans 'expecting' 3 points saturday?!

true, its laughable. We are going away to an established side with two strikers whose total transfer fees must be close to 100m. they have parker and sidwell in the middle of the park, who much have wrapped up hundreds of premier league games between them, and if tarrabet is on form, he is far superior in terms of flair to anything we have.

On top of all that they have been very strong at home for a number of seasons.

the newcastle game, despite not going to be easy, should be the one we are targetting for 3 points.

if you need that explaining then you need to go back to school.

Spot on now game is easy in this league. Honestly, as long as we do well at home and pick up the odd points here and there away we will be fine

If I was offered a draw now I'd bite their hand off.

Call me negative if you want but I am resigned to getting relegated.

For the amount of money we have spent the squad is still far too unbalanced, lacking pace and genuine attacking quality.

I just dont see 3 worst teams than us. I really dont.

I don't think my old school uniform will fit me now, it's a bit of an on going joke the 6 pointer, keep up

fulham are not having a great run of form at moment, won on the 1st day of the season 1-0 aganst sunderland, but lost 3 straight after and havent been playing particularly well. their only other pt came in a 1-1 draw with west brom who also havnt started to well and picked up their 1st win on saturday against sunderland...

this is a game that we should be targeting to get pts from as they are going to be in and around us for most of the season.

i understand its not always easy to be positive, but look at southampton last season. i think they lost their first 4 or 5 matches. Wonder what their fans were thinking.

i would still put palace, sunderland and hull below us. with others such as west brom, stoke and norwich will also be around there.

I can see where you are coming from but on the other hand, if we did happen to lose it wouldn't be the end of the world and we wouldn't be the only team to come away from fulham with nothing this season.

it will be a tough game for both teams and it could go either way.

The problem with many fans on here is that they will be uber confident pre match then if we lose will be calling for malky's head at 6pm saturday!

good point made, i agree with that.

every game we are going to have to work hard in and all are difficult at this level. i just think that the man city 3 pts was a bonus and malky etc have their ideas of where they think we can pick up pts etc...

I think Hull are adapting the best out of all three promoted teams.

Bruce has signed well. Huddlestone was / is a great signing.

agreed, and if anyone deserved to win when we played them, it was Hull. but after only 5 games its still to early to call it. Hull play in a very similar way to us in the fact its defense first, there will be times where their fans have the same grievances as ours im sure.

What's the point in expecting to lose? We might aswell not bother if we don't go everywhere demanding 3 points.

We can always backtrack after the game :D

I have discussed this with you before and I concur that we are a bit lightweight when it comes to creativity. I cannot for the life of me understand why malky would be so reliant on kimbo for our creativity.
Having said that I still think there a easily three weaker teams than us in this division. Last season you could argue that Leicester, Watford and probably a good few more were much easier on the eye than we were. However we won the league comfortably while most of those teams are battling it out in the championship this season.

What we were last season is difficult to beat. This season Malky has spent about £20 million making us even more difficult to beat and the first 3 home games have shown that he has been very successful in doing.

I personally think that there will be teams in this league this season who will be a lot prettier than us but will have a weak under belly and no stomach for a fight.

Newcastle is a prime example of the type of team I'm talking about. I just cant imagine their players having the stomach for a fight.

You know what you are going to get with us. We won't create the most chances but we will be a team who is able to grind out points and I honestly believe that this will be enough for us to avoid relegation.

I feel we are using so much energy containing teams we just cant get forward in any great numbers, or have the players to break forward quickly.

I personally dont think containging teams and then looking to score off a set piece is a tactic that will be fruitful in the long run.

It may work in the Championship but not at this level.

To get to the magic 40 point mark youve got to win at least 11 games, I just dont see us doing that at the minute.

Hope I am wrong.

To be fair, when you look at our fixtures so far;

West Ham - we were poor, we had only had medel for one day and were implementing a whole new system.

Hull - I thought we were decent and controlled large periods if the first half until they scored. We did lack a bit of creativity but a few of our players had just returned from travelling over tge other side of the world.
Also this result is now looking more like 1 point gained rather than 2 points lost.

I don't believe any of the bottom 5/6 will do as well as we have against City, Spurs and Everton. All these teams were absolute quality. We caught City on a bit of an off day but I thought Spurs and Everton were superb and will beat most teams especially teams like Hull, Fulham, Sunderland, Palace, West Brom.

The step up, particularly against Tottenham was bigger than I expected to be honest but I honestly think they will destroy most teams this season but the fact is, we could have won it in the end.
I said to my mate with about 15 to go, after we had withstood a barrage of Spurs pressure that we actually looked like the team who would win it at that point. We then invited them on and sat deep with about 5 to go and got punished.

We may we lose the next two games but I do see them as games where we'll be able to judge how difficult this season is gonna be.

El Gringo, I have to say, I'm only expecting a good day out with my fellow City fans. If it's a decent match and we pick up a point, never mind three, that'll be a bonus.

I've been a City fan for 37 years now and it'll be my first time at Craven Cottage - ridiculous, but true.

Let's just all have a great day out and not put too much pressure on the players.

This. I would hate to go back down this season without at least giving it a go and changing this awful style of football all season (Which we also played all last season). We couldn't have had 3 harder home games and I understand it in a way. But I really hope we don't play this way against the lesser teams in this division. Tho I fear MM wont change his usual tactics for most of the season.

If Odemwingie starts then I can expect us to do some serious attacking, hopefully some good service for Campbell.

The only problem I seen is how shy our players are to shoot.. we are doing nothing wrong just seen KIM have a handful of times to shoot but some how never bothers.

Spot on! Malky needs to tell the players to SHOOT!!!!! Especially Kimbo, he gets in some great positions and he got a cracking left peg, goals are the only thing that's missing from his game especially with the position he's playing as a number 10.
