29 shots by Spurs today! (Genuine football talk)

Sun Sep 22, 2013 10:09 pm

I was intending to stay up and watch your game after ours but with it being around 2am I decided id give it a miss and check the result in the morning.

I must admit i did raise a smile to see a 1-0 defeat in the 92nd minute, but did also think to myself "it must have been close though".... I then go to the match stats and it shows 29 shots to Spurs and none on target again for you guys.

I havent read the forum yet so excuse me if this has already been discussed. However when you werent getting any shots off in previous games, some of your fans said it was Malkys defensive style. But can you really call it a defensive style giving up a chance/shot every 3 mins?!? Im genuinely stunned by that, it must have been like the Alamo.

Do you think you need to look at attacking other teams, especially at home? Lets not turn this into a slanging match, genuinely interested as to whats going on tactically.

We were defensive because Spurs have a quality attacking force. We did have the chances to have gotten something from the game but we weren't clinical enough. I doubt we'll be as defensive when we play teams that are expected to be in and around us.

It was 29 with blocked shots and there were a few of them . Most were from outside the box and were dealt with by a stunning goalkeeping display from Marshall .

Yes they had a lot of possession but to be fair we dealt with it pretty comfortably for the most part . They are a very good team and can see them finishing second this year .

It wasn't as one sided as the stats show we played some good stuff and given a decent final ball we could have scored 3/4 aswell

Lloris should have been off early or Frazier should have buried it , take your pick
Our disallowed goal is very debatable
Gunnarsson should have scored at the end it was harder to miss
If we hadn't chosen the wrong option on our final ball spurs were open a few times and we could/should have scored .

In all honesty spurs deserved the win but we didn't half make them earn it :ayatollah:

I understand why you would set up defensively. But my point was - its not really that defensive to concede a shot every 3 mins, if you arent going to have any shots to trouble the opposing keeper yourself - then maybe a more attacking apprach would be more sensible.

At the moment is seems like you are using the sort of tactics lower league clubs do against big guns in the fa cup. At the end of the day you are in the same league and have spent the 5th highest amount in the league, id just have thought you would want a bit more threat from the team.

By the way, again, i didnt see the game. So correct me if im deducing this wrong.

As someone mentioned above, a lot of their shots were outside of the box.

Best side weve faced yet they were razor sharp.

They should have had gane wrapped up but for Marshall having a worldy.

These games wont decide our fate.

I hope and expect us to have more of a go v Newcastle.

Should we play 11 behind ball v Newcastle, keep it 0-0 and look to nick a goal then I will start to panic.

Plus side the new RB and Chicken Wingie looked the part.

Yeah i read. Not really sure what that means though. Premier league teams are prolific at scoring outside the box.

I just wanted to know if the stats were representative of the match, he said it wasnt so ill take his word for it.

I mean that the actual shots they had where they either missed or were saved was lower than 29 , that stat includes at least 5 shots from outside the box where our defenders dived to block , do you count them as shots on target ? I don't personally .

Comfortable in posession and looks to overlap.

Against lesser teams hopefully be more effective.

Kept Siggy in his pocket today. Shame same couldnt be said of Taylor v Townsend but Townsend looks a talent. Fast as f**k.

Best side we faced so far and I would say they could be title contenders but then City have smashed Utd today so who knows.

Agree Townsend was my man of the match other than Marshall , first time I've seen him live and he really impressed me , turned Taylor inside out a few times , his pace is unreal .

They are definitely title contenders. We always have trouble playing against them, but we do usually give them a go of sorts. Best we have done is a draw against them, but we should have won that game.

Very impressive in the flesh. Kyle Walker too.
Spurs were very quick and seened to be 2 passes ahead.

I love Whitts but his lack of pace physically and mentallt showed v the very top players today.

No shame taking them to 93rd minute but I do wonder where the goals are going to come from.

The Bale money means they have added quality and depth all around.

Erikson for 11m could be the buy of the season.

Well be rest assured Palace are far far worse. Dont remember them having a shot on target either. If Sunderland appoint poorly after Di canio then that could be 2 of the 3 relegation teams there.

17th will do Roathie.

Agree on Palace and Sunderland. Hull have added wel IMO. Huddlestone is a top signing.

I'd be very upset if we had lost that game in our third season in the premier league as by then you should learn to close a game off however as it's our first I was understanding. Spurs outplayed us for most of the game but I always felt we had a foothold, Marshall was excellent.

Interesting someone says Eriksen may be buy of season, I have liked the look of Paulinho so far and he was excellent today again. Spurs could push for top 3 this season, easily.

Anyone saying that the shots on target included blocked shots is wrong.

Anyone saying that a large majority of the shots were outside the box is also wrong as this screen shot from StatsZone shows it was basically half in an half out.

Also a quick one to show our player influence. TC did have a massive game at RB and was our most influential player alongside Marshall.

Actually the people who saidshots on goal counts blocked shots are correct judging by your post?

Quick maths lesson

On target 12 + Off target 9 = 21
+ blocked 8

= answers on a postcard please

29 shots? Were they counting their forward passes as well?
How many were on target? Mostly long range hit and hope.
Marshall did some great saves but most were straight at him anyway.

They were also very cynical in defence, especially Dawson.
If Clutterberg and that linesman had given the right decisions we would have at least drawn. Red card for their goalie and Turners goal being allowed.

Guy above said that he 'wouldn't consider blocked shots as shots on target'.

A lot of shots were outside the box so I think we were well organised and limited them to cutting us through the middle which they done only a few times.

Besides that I think we are organised but need some flare attacking.

Not really, it was 50:50 as the stats show. Anyhow, spurs have players where most of their goals come from outside the box - see gylfi sigurdson who also smashed your bar from outside the box.
