Cardiff City Development XI 1-0 Swansea City Development XI: Derby win for Bluebirds
16 Sep 2013

Former Wycombe winger Kadeem Harris fired home to win a hard fought Premier Development League match at Cardiff City Stadium

' Cardiff City's development team won the derby day bragging rights '

Kadeem Harris fired his ninth goal to hand Cardiff City victory in the first South Wales derby of the season.

Former Wycombe winger Harris, 20, fired home after 64 minutes of a hard fought Premier Development League match at Cardiff City Stadium.

Right-back Luke Coulson set up the chance with a storming run from halfway and a cross which fell perfectly for Harris to fire home from close range at the far post.

The strike takes his tally to nine in all development games for the Bluebirds – and could yet earn him a place in Malky Mackay's squad for the Capital One Cup tie at West Ham next Tuesday.

He was among the substitutes in Cardiff's 2-0 success at Accrington Stanley in the first round.

Harris was given an ovation when he was replaced by Kane Owen after 73 minutes.

Cardiff have now played eight fixtures, including friendlies and three League matches, and have a 100 per cent record.

City started with plenty of pace in wide areas with Craig Noone and Kadeem Harris running hard, while Jordon Mutch was prominent through central midfield. Both Noone and Mutch played the full 90 minutes.

Cardiff dominated the early stages, but the Swans worked their way back and home keeper Simon Moore saved his team with a smart save after Rory Donnelly broke clear through the middle.

Dutch-born Kenji Gorre, a former Manchester United youngster, twice fired against Cardiff's bar, while the Bluebirds went close again when Harris volleyed over from Healey's pass.

Captain Adedeji Oshilaja and Scot Simon Lappin, usually a left-back, teamed up at centre-back for Cardiff with Luke Coulson and John the full-backs.

Healey went close on 57 minutes when a John cross from the left flew just behind the striker. He flicked the ball up and with his second touch went for goal with an overhead kick which was inches wide.

Cardiff City: Moore, Coulson (Yorwerth 88), Lappin, Oshilaja (capt), John, Noone, Mutch, O'Sullivan, Wharton, Harris (Owen 73), Healey. Subs: Matthews (gk), Williams, Bowen.

Swansea City: Zabaret, Alfei, Shepherd, Jones, Tancock (capt), Gogic, Gorre (Hedges 82), Lucas, Scott, Donnelly, Loveridge (Meade 65). Subs not used: Davies, Evans, Jones.

Referee: Dave Ricketts.

The best dev game so far and I'm pleased to say that we were impressive - outclassed the swans and a great game of football. Love the dev games and tonight you could see the difference that the PL step-up has had on the DVP. Bodes very well indeed.

Mutch and Harris looked a class above everybody else on that pitch tonight especially mutch in the first half .
Healey looked like he's bursting with confidence and his first touch is fantastic
Oshilaja and John are going to be two brilliant defenders soon , the future looks bright for our youngsters coming through.

Noticed also we played the same formation as our first team with the lone striker up front supported by three creative midfielders and two defensive mids behind . Interesting could be a look into the future for the way cardiff teams are going to play . I'm sure last year our development team played 442

I was very impressed with what I saw tonight. It was my first DVP game but it definitely won't be my last.

Kevin Cooper is a brilliant coach and you could see our lads responding to him and listening.

I thought Harris and Oshilaja were superb. Oshilaja looks like a young Sol Campbell and can see him being a first team player in the next couple of years. Wharton was also a stand out performer and bossed the midfield with great reading of the game and lovely touches as times. Our assurance and composure on the ball was a pleasure to see.

Swansea were nothingy really and unlike us didn't seem to adopt the first team style like Thomas mentioned above.

Craig Noone was the only negative. If you didn't know the players you would have looked at Noone and wondered if he was good enough to make the grade. He just didn't seem to look comfortable with the ball and kept misplacing passes and over hitting crosses. The stage was there for him to impress like Mutch did but it just wasn't there from him tonight.

All in all an excellent performance.

Any idea on attendance?

Also a quick mention for Si Lappin. He didn't stop talking tonight. You can see why Malky has him at the club when he can help develop our very promising youngsters.

Was an outstanding performance. Many of the players have a bright future. Swansea didnt look like they had many good prospects. If we were more clinical it could have been 5 or 6 nil. Swans had a couple of decent chances but were basically annihilated. Was impressed with lappin. Good experienced player for first team cover. Noone didnt play great

Lappin is not in the 25 man first team squad so can't play I'm afraid. Be interesting to see if he goes out on loan or stays to help develop the youngsters.

good result for you but I notice that you played some of your first team guys

while the Swans stick to the youngsters in development, so actually its not really a comparison of where the Dev sides actually are is it...

but there you go

Swansea GK was impressive and has a bright future. Very quick reaction time and brave. He made some excellent saves as the scoreline really should have been 4-0. Now f**k off. :thumbright:

The Jacks GK can't kick to save his life though!!!!

Their best player in my opinion was Kenji Gorre (?). He threatened us the most. Mostly because Noone failed to help Coulson sometimes. He looked composed in front of goal too.

GOWERJACK: Of the players that played, who are your brightest prospects?

from what ive seen I agree Kenji is going to be the one although Rory Donnelly is very good with better players around him, in preseason he was excellent with the first team players

We're a massive club. Forever in our shadows are Swansea. Thats why they wear black and white. Black is symbolism for the shadow they are living in and white is the light they believe is at the end of the tunnel but unfortunately for them its not. Pathetic club, small mentality and forever dreaming to be us.

Wharton had Donnelly in his pocket most of the game and the difference in size and strength between him and Mutch was hilarious. He makes Leon Britton look huge!

Trying my best to be unbiased ( ) I would say that, youngsters considered only, we outmatched and outclassed you in every area.

Future is bright for us Bluebirds!

We had our acadamy kids out last night ,
You had ya first/ reserves out if you were happy with that happy days.

Meanwhile we are off to Valencia / Benidorm for our European Tour.
I know what I'd rather Adios Dragons Red at that

We had 3 first team players. Mutch, Noone (worst player on the pitch) and Lappin (who isn't in our 25 so not really first team) only Harris can be considered a real reserve the rest were kids who have stepped up as junior professionals from our u18 squad.

You mean mainly ex first team Championship players, players who wont mainly figure anymore in this years first team games, unless injuries or suspensions kick in, we have to keep them fit. It was a good game last night and you had some good youngsters playing for you.

Agreed. Swansea certainly had some very good players out there last night. Kadeem Harris will be on the minds of some for a very long time, though!

This is my first post been following the forum for ages. I am posting because I can't believe that Declan John hasn't been mentioned in this thread, he was one of the stand out players last night.

Re: Cardiff City's develop team won the derby day bragging r

Harris is a much better winger than Noone or smith I hope MALKY gives him a chance by puting him on the bench.

Oshijali played very well his passing from the back was brilliant.

Mutch looked a class above everyone on the pitch.

Noone was very poor I would say he was the worst player on the pitch crossing was shocking a wasted a good free kick chance by blasting it over the bar.

My player rating would be these

Moore-6 not much to do
Coulson-7 good cross for assist
Oshijali-8
Lappin-7
John-6

Noone-3
Wharton-7
Mutch- 8
Harris-9

O'sullivan-7

Healy-7.5

I didn't think Declan John was as good as I expected him to be.

Harris and Kane Owen were the best of our youngsters, I thought.

I would've given Moore higher than a 6, Oshilaja less than an 8, John more than 6, Noone more than 3 (although he was very disappointing) and Wharton, O'Sullivan and Healey less than you've given them.

I enjoyed the game and was very encouraged by a number of performances and I also thought Swansea had some good players, too.

I think all in all it bodes well for the future particularly Harris, if he could just look up a second earlier and play the simple pass he would have an eleven. He got clattered to many times because he took on one too many. Look forward to seeing him take on a class full back.

He was without a doubt and I can see Malky bringing him on quite a lot this season in the Premier League, might not start him all the time, but a great addition to our squad and still young, great player for the future and a local player  :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I love the DVP games. I honestly think that the club need to promote them more. Its (mostly) good football to watch andi ncreased the crowds also have a positive effect on the players. A fine way to spend a Monday night.
