" HULL CITY V CARDIFF CITY " SATURDAY 3pm 14th SEPTEMBER 2013.

Former Newcastle keeper Steve Harper is in line to replace Hull injury worry Allan McGregor, who has a groin injury.

Hull City are again without suspended striker Yannick Sagbo while deadline-day signing Gedo has yet to receive his visa.

Cardiff could give a debut to new signing Peter Odemwingie, but they also have a goalkeeping headache.

David Marshall is 50/50 whether he will be able to play.

Who they have signed:
Both teams have made additions to their squads, with Cardiff bringing in eight players and Hull signing 10.

Cardiff 's major signings include Gary Medel, Steven Caulker and Peter Odemwingie. Since Medel's record-breaking transfer to the Bluebirds, he has enjoyed a whirlwind start to the Premier League and looks completely comfortable in the highest tier of British football. Steven Caulker has brought a calmness to the back line and the capture of Peter Odemwingie brings a wealth of Premier League experience to Malky Mackay's squad.
Hull's busy transfer window has seen them raid Tottenham for outcast Tom Huddlestone and loanee youngster Jake Livermore. Huddlestone has been able to play with freedom since arriving at Hull after not being favoured by Andre Villas Boas at Spurs, and will surely have a large role in the Tigers' fight to stay in the Premier League. The ex-spurs central pairing will bring a strength to Hull City's midfield which will be needed if they are to avoid another short spell in the top division.

Results so far:
After all three promoted teams lost on the opening day of the season, the fans could not have been blamed for being pessimistic about the long season ahead.

Both Cardiff and Hull however showed belief and desire to stay in the top-flight with wins against Manchester City and Norwich City respectively.

Getting three points on the board at the start of the season is crucial as it gives both teams a platform on which to build.

Cardiff must be happy with their four points out of the first three games which has seen them lose to West Ham, beat Manchester City and draw against Everton.

Four points would have been a good target to set for these fixtures, although they may not have expected to pick up the points up in the way they did.

Hull's three points sees them at 18th in the early table but this does not tell the full story of their first fixtures. 2-0 losses to title contenders Manchester City and Chelsea were not bad results for a newly promoted team, and three points against a newly energised Norwich side, with the signings of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel and Nathan Redmond among others, was an excellent result.

Bookies odds:
At the start of the season, Hull City were 8/11 to be relegated, according to Betfair, and their odds of survival have since shrunk to 4/5.

This seems harsh after their spending in the summer transfer window, however the Tigers' history in the Premier League must not be overlooked. In 2008 Hull were handed their first shot at the top division in British football. After a nail-biting final day of the season in 2009, Hull managed to survive with Newcastle, Middlesborough and West Brom filling the bottom three spots. In the next season however, the Tigers finished on a dismal 30 points and were relegated into the second-tier.

Betfair had odds of 2/1 for Cardiff to be relegated at the start of the season and, although Malky Mackay's men have had a dream start to their debut Premier League season, the odds have not changed. The Bluebirds do however now hold the same odds as Sunderland to go down after the Black Cats' survival chances were slashed from 5/1 to 2/1 having only put one point on the board so far.

Focus on the managers:
After two successful years at cash-strapped Watford, leading them to Championship survival when close to administration, Malky Mackay left to join Cardiff City on a three-year deal. Mackay was unbeaten in his first two months at the Bluebirds and led them to the 2012 League Cup final, before which his contract was extended by three and a half years. The Bluebirds lost the League Cup final 3-2 on penalties to a high-flying Liverpool side, but won the Championship in fine style the following year after Mackay had rejected a move to Norwich City. Mackay's win rate as a manager is 40.38%, but he has won 46.79% of games with Cardiff City, which will be key in the Bluebirds battle to stay in the top flight.

Compared to new-comer Mackay, Steve Bruce is an old-hat at Premier League management. Bruce had experienced promotion to the Premier League twice before with Birmingham City before clinching a spot in the top-flight with Tigers. Bruce has also experienced relegation from the first tier of English football with Sheffield United and Birmingham, and must improve upon his 37.62% managerial win rate if Hull are to avoid the drop into the Championship.

Key battles:
The key battle to look out for in this game will be in midfield.

Tom Huddlestone will be confronted by Chilean star Gary Medel, and how they handle each other will be decisive.

If Huddlestone is allowed to play at his own pace, he is more than capable of threading a pass that could carve open the Bluebirds' defence.

It is down to Cardiff's record signing to hurry the ex-Spurs man and not allow him to settle into the game. Huddlestone is the key to the Hull City attack and looks likely to be the main route through which the Tigers will advance up the pitch.

On the other side of the pitch, another interesting battle that may unfold will be Fraizer Campbell's duel with Hull centre-backs James Chester and Curtis Davies. If Malky Mackay's team can find a through-ball to Campbell, the Tigers' defenders do not have the pace to catch the 25-year-old. This could cause problems for Hull as they may be inclined to drop deep to shut off space behind the back four. This would invite dangerous Cardiff midfielder Kim Bo-Kyung to take on the opposition defence, in a similar fashion to his run that provided the Bluebirds' equaliser against Manchester City.

Head to head:
Overall, Cardiff and Hull have faced each other 59 times with Hull edging it over the Bluebirds with 21 wins to 19, and 19 draws. Cardiff have also only won 17 per cent of their games away at Hull.

Against each other both teams average over a goal a game, so we may see the net ripple a few times at the KC Stadium next week.

I think this is the match we show our attacking threat instead of our brilliant defensive counter attacking style . I really think we could hurt hull with our pace and quick passing .
Big win for me city to win 4-1 Campbell and odemwingie

This will by no means be easy!

I just hope we show a bit more confidence in attack. Were clearly going to play with 1 up front - which to me is immediately reducing your attacking play, just hope we have a go at them. These sort of games we really need to compete!

Hull cant score for toffee and were pretty solid in defence. As Hull are not much capture I think 3.0 Cardiff with Kimbo to smash one home. :ayatollah:

There are about 10 pundits predictions on Sky Sports and everyone is going for either 1:1 or 0:0, except Helen Chamberlain who has gone 2:1 (dozy mare). I will take a draw and think it will be very difficult to come away with all 3 points. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

1-1 or 1-2. Will not be easy. Have a funny feeling that Danny Graham will nick a goal for them because I've been slagging him off on here and facebook for the last 1938564920387 years. Still confident of at least a point

Nervous for this fixture, would be happy with a draw as its away, but I personally think we have a little more quality

My main worry about this team; we have no cutting edge whatsoever. Fluking results against the likes of Man City is all well and good, but when you can't get a shot away against teams like Hull and West Ham, it's pretty worrying.

I said it before the first ball was kicked this season, we need a Quality Premier League Striker.
