This deal looked very much like it was happening yesterday, terms agreed, medical pending and work visa to sort out, the player wants to come to Cardiff but this has changed dramatically over the course of today.

What CityGent was posting about the deal being close was correct at the time of him writing but as we know things change in football and can change at the 11th hour and this is very much the case here.

This was also the deal that Annis was posting about earlier this week and in fairness it was that close that both Lakey and Annis were correct at the time of their posts.

What I have been told is that the agent has asked for more money for the player, and probably himself, and City will not tolerate this type of dealing.

The deal is not dead in the water but if we were 95% certain of signing Montero yesterday then it is suggested we are now 95% not signing him at this time.

We have walked away from the deal and not the player or the agent but to get this back on then the players representatives have to accept the deal they originally agreed to.

It is disappointing as he looked a real gem but I have confidence Malky will surprise us with another.

Malky and his staff have 4 other targets they are looking at and have already moved on to those players as their priority.

Certainly not dead but at this very moment it is very unlikely but look at how quick things change so never say never I suppose.

As much as I think he would be a great addition, I am at the same time delighted that Cardiff City are not being held to ransom. About time these gutsy agents got told to do one.

I suspect this type of behaviour happens quote often this close to the end of the transfer window, people get greedy and try it on, they know we need the player and time is running out.

It's the real business end of the transfer window....

Malky had a very similar issue when he thought he had got Sordell but that time it was the chairman not the agent who got involved and upped the price after agreeing a deal.

When I met Malky in the changing rooms for a travel meeting, he told me then that when that happens he will always walk away and true to his word and belief he has done so again.

Good on him.

Agree , its a game of chicken really to see who will crack 1st and I have a feeling City wont be held to ransom , the only way he will come here is if he comes on the original terms agreed

I see Newcastle have gone back in for Gomis, Pardew is under pressure already, so maybe now with the transfer window closing, they can agree the wages.

And Spurs are now getting all they wanted for Bale, it gets harder to move on as time runs out, not the best time to be buying...

It also happened when we tried to buy Noone the first time

Malky and Cardiff City have proved for another time that they will not be held to ransom on any deal and this will surely stand us in good stead for the future.
Any player who wants to try these tactics in the future .
will certainly think twice about it.
Well done, please keep this stern stance for the sake of Cardiff City and for the benefit of other football clubs.

Surely this happens in a lot of deals, the buyer wants to pay as less as possible and the agent or buying club wants as much money as possible. If its the difference between staying in the Premier League or not, it's a no brainer. I would rather pay an extra 1m and stay in the top flight than skip and save and go down !

Apparently City were looking at Odemwingie who is not an out and out wide man but who are they likely to get hold of at this late stage in the transfer window? May be struggling to bring in another wide man before the transfer deadline.

As with Wanyama, if he is that good then pay the extra and get the man you want.

After Sundays performance, he and his agent should be paying us for him to have the pleasure of playing for such a club  :ayatollah:

Happy enough standing our ground especially when it comes to agents who are nothing but parasites in the game. But, we do need quality players, out wide and probably up front, and so I hope MM has options he can move on to QUICKLY :malky:

Would you pay £60 for trainers if they are £40 in another shop?

I think it's great we are not paying more than we think they are worth. We move onto the next. No Wanyama but we got Medel

Think we've dodged a bullet here. So much hype to be honest. I'd rather we put our money where our mouths are and just went and signed someone like McManaman for £10m who we know can be a handful in the Prem.

As you said earlier Carl, it's gutting that the goalposts have been moved after everything was agreed. That's top flight football for you. It f*cking stinks but as we did with Wanyama and Tom Ince, we roll with the punches and move on to pastures new and improved

You just knew this deal was gonna go south as soon as Montero's missus produced a baby two weeks ago.

Time for Malky to add "Lack of Maternity" in his portfolio of requirements for a player. :D

It is frustrating knowing how close we were mate and judging by reports and YouTube he looked like a real talent.

Sure Malky will pull a rabbit from the hat though
