CITY FANS BUY BILLBOARD SIGN

Wed Aug 21, 2013 4:25 pm

A Cardiff City supporters group that wants to return to playing in blue has bought a billboard in a prime location to spread their message at City’s first home match

Cardiff City fan Sian Branson, of supporters group Bluebirds Unite, at the billboard

Bluebirds Unite will walk from Cardiff Castle to Cardiff City Stadium at 2pm on Sunday as part of a celebration walk ahead of the club’s first home Premier League match with Manchester City.

They are expecting 500 people to be at the castle before the walk swells to more than 1,000 people by the time they reach the ground.

And a stone’s throw away from the stadium, they have bought up a billboard with the group’s emblem displaying the slogan: History-Identity-Pride.

Sian Branson, who founded the group, said: “A club has its colour and badge. Players, managers and owners will come and go but, ultimately, that is what the fans will follow.

“This is not a march against the club; it’s rather an opportunity for the fanbase to show what it means to us.”

The billboard near Cardiff City Stadium paid for by Bluebirds Unite

The banner, costing more than £700, was paid for by members of Bluebirds Unite and designed by Cardiff-based Oner Signs.

It will be in place for a month – for home games with Manchester City and Everton who, ironically, both play in blue.

“What we have tried to do is reach as many fans as possible with limited resources,” Sian added.

“It was discussed between Bluebirds Unite and group members and we thought this was the best way without encroaching on the club.

“We would like anybody who feels the same way to turn up in blue and join us. We will stick around for as long as it takes.”

All this BU shit is stupid! As I see it I am accepting the rebrand just for now, to help stabilise the club! We won't be red forever!

Just accept the benefits for now!

I will support the club always but i will always be blue and think BU is a good idea and about time someone did something.

Why should we put up and shut up money isnt everything Tan Hasnt got a clue about football or the fans .

BU has my full support and the banner is very good the only shame is its only there for 1 month. :ayatollah:

How is that the clubs emblem? When was it we assumed the bluebirds nickname?? I'm sure you lot just need something to hold on to or moan about... Ninian park great memories but a shit hole etc etc we play in red at the moment so I for one just can't get my head round why you would want to wear, sing blue songs etc ... Half of the people now wearing blue never used to wear colours that's why it is embarrassing and at a time where things will be difficult on the pitch we should be doing everything to get behind the club.... celebration of history or as I see it a disruptive waste of time??

Your right I never wore the colours in 40 years, but my team were BLUE and that's all I ever knew, so now I feel my best way of saying I don't accept the red is by wearing the BLUE, no harm to no one and II FEEL PROUD TO WEAR THE BLUE AND NOT FORGET OUR IDENTITY. :ayatollah:

Not as stupid as sitting back and assuming that we will return to blue in the future.

Money wasted - Do you think Tan would be worried about that

These people are looking to de-rail one of the best things ever to happen to Cardiff City

Why does Sian have to be in the picture? No offence but isn't this supposed to be about the goals that are trying to be obtained and not the people involved and the status? I don't see why the picture isn't solely focused on Bluebirds Unite's cause and the actual banner.

This is not slagging off, i'm just asking?

Time and time again Gwyn has been lambasted for putting his face in the media.

Why is it different when a fan does it this time?

I have proudly worn the colours we have played in for the past 40 years and it is my choice and what I believe in to carry on doing so :old:

£700 for a banner..... Wasn't there a guy on here begging for that amount of money to help kids play football... Surely a better use for the money.

Agree Annis, I don't think anyone will convince Tan to go back to blue but lets at least show him what it means to us. Well done BU. :ayatollah:

The £700 was raised by members of BU who wanted the billboard sign. That was their choice and well done to them. I think it's a great idea!

Now if you want to start your own group and put in as much effort to your group as Sian Branson has with BU, please do so. You can then raise £700 within your group to go towards your wish of helping kids play football. Or are you just going to not bother with that and choose to continually sit on your backside and have an unneccessary moan at every little thing instead?

Yep I do have a drink as I spend 90% of my days and at least 50% of my earnings on making sure the kids in my community have a football team to play in with their friends. Being unrealistic is fight for blue while Tan is in charge. YOU WON'T GET BLUE BACK while he's here, simple. Wear blue at games, fight for the cause. But wasting £700 on a billboard is wasteful!! You'd get more media time if you done something good with the money like you did a few months back when donated it to a charity.

Surely money spent on a kids team's new kit could be better spent on feeding the homeless or sending food parcels abroad?!

Surely your ST money would be better spent on other things too.. It's all in context really. :ayatollah:

I take your point and I think it's good you support local kids football, but considering BU currently have 3,321 members on their Facebook group and the billboard was £700, it's hardly a waste of money. The money was raised by the majority of members putting a quid or 2 each into the BU kitty to pay for the billboard. It's what the members agreed to and it's what they wanted, so I see no problem with that.
