Mackay: Cardiff haven’t finished spending this summer
By talkSPORT Monday, August 19, 2013

Live on talkSPORT
Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay admits he is still looking to sign more players before the transfer window shuts on September 2.

The Bluebirds boss has already broken the club's transfer record three times during the summer following the additions of Andreas Cornelius, Steven Caulker and Gary Medel.

The Welsh club suffered a disappointing start to life in the Premier League as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat against West Ham at Upton Park.

Mackay knows he needs more reinforcements but says he may have to be patient and wait until the final week before he adds more players.

The Scot said: "We are certainly trying but so is everyone in the Premier League. We are trying to bring good players in but sometimes it is not within your control.

"You have to be patient for situations that are ongoing. There is competition for players.

"If I find a good player and the club and player agree and it is right for the club I will certainly try and act.

"But it is about getting players in that are better than what you have got."

I'd be worried if we didn't anymore players, Squad is not good enough right now whether you like it or not.

It was disappointing Saturday but West Ham have a good record at home.
We do need a few more quality signings and malky and his team are working hard to get the right players in.Tans made money available so hopefully we'll see some signings soon.

I'm not worrying just yet, but it'll be squeaky bum time if no new players have arrived come the morning of deadline day!

If they don't bring in new players that pretty much guarantees a season of struggling to get out or stay out of the bottom 3. We don't have the players in depth and any injuries to key players makes us an easy touch.

Last season we got away with quite a few games where Malky's player selection was abysmal. In the Premiership you'll get slaughtered for that. West Ham showed the lack of quality in our team. We all know the players that are going to struggle....they have to be replaced or the season is over. 3/4 players desperately needed.

Should we get beaten heavily by man city Sunday do you think it may be harder to attract players at the end of the window??

Ideally it would be better if we could get them in before the man city game...

Its amazing how your views chance from one game.

After we finished comfortably 11th and then 9th by spending little more than £10m per season from a play off winning squad, you guys were claiming how the Prem was easy and not much different to the championship.

£30 million spent later from a championship winning squad (some saying strongest championship ever :laughing6: )and you guys are saying you are going to struggle unless you spend spend and spend more.

We got a 11th place finish, a 9th place finish, qualified for Europe and won a major trophy after spending £23 million combined.

Malky has spent terribly and this proves that.

Oh and check this out - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17249294

Best of luck

You said it yourself jack. It's one game :laughing6:

We'll be fine. Apart from the injuries to key players like Mark Hudson, Cornelius and Gunnarson who aren't match fit yet, just like it did you lot to adjust(You didn't win in a game in the top flight until your FIFTH GAME :P ), once we've got everyone in and back from injury, we'll have more than enough to comfortably deal with the premier league. Please bookmark this retard. By the time that happens though, you'll deny all knowledge of being proved wrong YET AGAIN, while you're another 50 usernames down the road. You bad nonce you :laughing6:

I have to agree that the 30 odd mil could of been spent more wisely, there are plenty of bargain players out there, there is no need to spend around 10 mil everytime, the spanish market is full of bargain players who would more than cope in the prem, and you can buy them for as little as 4/5 mil each

Gary Medel is a bargain buy. 60 completed passes Saturday in a classy performance. Cornelius will also prove to be a star. Caulker is already proven and £8m is a snip. People writing us off after ONE GAME, but I'm not surprised. Not exactly blessed with football knowledge on here is it :laughing6:

Just posted in wrong thread! Edited!

I think we will sign at least 2 more. I wouldnt be surprised to see us get some loans in as well from the big teams. Better experience playing for a smaller team in the PL than reserve football.

Make your mind up, are you fine or do you need to spend more? It took us to the second game to pick up our first point. I highly doubt you will match that (plaus we beat man city 1-0 in the hime game).

Leon britton passes the ball on average 88 times per match and completes 93% of them, he cost us 100k.

Just to put it into perspective,

Yes but how far forward did you go? What's the saying about statistics and lies?
Classic one is ray Wilkins called the crab best britton for passing but always sideways hence the crab. :laughing6:

You do realise that the stats regarding medel was from a game in which you mustered 1 shot on target?

Brittons stats were from a 3-2 victory over Arsenal. Considering hes our playmaker Id hazard a guess and say he passed forward more often and more accurately than Medel did against West Ham :laughing6:

Re: " Cardiff haven’t finished spending this summer "

Medel completed 93% of his 60 passes against West Ham, 47% of them were forward passes!

Of course if these forward passes were in rugby, they'd be illegal! :)

Perhaps that's why Britton passes backwards so often, as he may have been a scrum half in his childhood! 8-)

Yes a guess! But still doesn't show how or where he passed ball? Just completed passes? That's my point. We all know you can use statistics to suit any purpose!

Do you have a link to that?

Make my mind up? I've never changed it. We'll be fine but there's nothing wrong with adding some healthy competition, especially when you're talking about stars like Montero. You're not afraid of embarrassing yourself are you? Comparing Leon Britton to Gary Medel :laughing6: It took years for Britton to acquire stats like that. It's taken Medel ONE GAME :laughing6: . Britton is an average footballer in a decent system. Gary Medel is an established international who has played at a World Cup and starred in two of the toughest leagues in the world. As I said, we've got a bargain there. I'm incredibly excited about our chances this season, as are every other educated Cardiff City fan

You're in fine company on here. f*cking clueless :laughing6:

Doesnt matter where he passed the ball, 93% of the time he finds our players. As our playmaker he passes the ball backwards, forwards and sideways. His accurate passing, moving the ball and creating patterns of play is the reason we could stretch arsenal and score 3 past them while cruising to 3 points.

You guys need to get educated in football, thats not an insult but a genuine piece of advice. I was talking to one of your lot last year and he said that if a ball gets passed backwards then there are groans from the crowd who would rather lump it forward.

I find it bizarre someone would rather their team lump it forward and probably lose it rather than look to retain possession and try and move the opposition out of their positions THEN pick the pass.

Not really. Twitter said you were signing Aaron Lennon too. I highly doubt that stat is accurate 43% of passes forward is not a defensive midfielders role and if it is true its probably why you were torn apart so easily as you were outnumbered once he passes forward.
