Today is THE DAY

Sat Aug 17, 2013 7:45 am

Waiting is over, the pressure mounts on Malkys money men. spent the 4th highest amount behind Chelsea, Man City and Spurs now its tim to turn that spending into points.

these are certainly the games you need to be getting at least a draw out of to hit the 40 point mark. slow start and you could be in all sorts of hurt.

good luck, genuinely. I feel you will need it.

Great result if you do, but you certainly need something from the game. a point will be fine too.

We need something from the first game of the season? Do me a favour...

didn't you lot have a shit start , 2pts in your first 4 games including home matches v wigan and Sunderland...so cut your bullshit..a point would be good ,3 would be even better but if we loose it's not the end of the world

Re: Today is THE DAY

You lost 1-0 to West Ham away last season...

Yet we must get a point from today or it will be a struggle?

well firstly we didn't spend £30m and way less than both Wigan and Sunderland.

and secondly we still got points against those teams. You have to get points in winnable games because there are an awful lot of unwinnable ones to come.

that was our second year in the league with a much better team than you.

if you want to stay up and reach 40 points, these are the games you need to get points from. its not a difficult concept.

So there is magic amount you spend then you must beat west ham away in your first game or you are in trouble? :?

My theory is that in your first season after spending £30m you need to pick up a least a point from West Ham.

In no way does that relate to us as we can afford the odd slip up as we have squad to beat the likes of Arsenal etc and get points when we shouldn't.

You spent 3 times as much. of course you should do better.

So we have to pick up a point today or we will struggle, yet your supposedly better team last year, lost at the same game as did just fine?!

Some twisted logic there Roathie.

that seems perfectly logical to me.

good teams can afford to drop points, worse ones cant. if you lose this then you face the very real possibility of going into your 3rd game without a point to your name.

it doesn't matter. its 1 of 2 games played against west ham, this fixture will not come up again. if you don't capitalise then you lose the chance, its the same whether its the first game or 21st.

What a ridiculous notion, if you lose at West Ham, you're going to struggle..

When his own team did exactly that last year & finished 9th.

Can't disagree with that, It's something we all know, you play a side twice and the aim is to score more goals than them, are you new to football?

im glad you agree. chances to pick up maximum points are at a premium at this level, fail early on and the pressure mounts.

think what you were trying to say was

''so what your saying is if we dont win today we're fucked for the season,we might as well pack up go home and call it a day for the rest of the season''

in answer to that. no you aren't fucked by any means, but as ive said, chances to pick up max points are scarce at this level. let one slip away early on in the season and it can prove very difficult from there on in, especially when the squad had a £30m millstone hanging around its neck.

Southampton lost at West Ham last season (4-1) & stayed up..
