The bottom 3 this season?

Fri Aug 09, 2013 11:40 pm

Seeing as no one enjoyed my thread on the winner of the premier league this year then lets try the flip side

The favourites this year are all 3 promoted teams!

So who do you think will go down this season and why do you think this the case?

My opinion on the 3 favourites and a few others are:-

Hull city

Hull tigers (lol couldn't help myself) have spent around £6/7m at present bringing in a few players, many of these additions I feel aren't good enough to improve their squad vastly, they've gone for a few old heads and the question i suppose is are they there for a fight or picking up one last decent pay cheque before returning to the lower leages to finish their careers, time will tell, one plus for hull is Steve Bruce having played a long time at top flight and managed a few teams now at this level he has some valid experience will this be enough to save hull? My opinion no!

Smakerz prediction 19th

Crystal palace

Where do I start with palace? I'm nt quite sure how they got promoted in all fairness? Maybe the wily character holloway just helped push them through at the playoff stage? Having lost Saha and with their other main scorer Murray sidelined for a few months I'd say it will be a long hard season for the eagles, they haven't really added any quality to their side and that young striker they purchased seems expensive at te price they paid, I personally think they will be relegated by December/ January and it will be a real job for holloway to stop them becoming the next derby

Smakerz prediction 20th

That brings us to the bluebirds!!

Cardiff city FC

We all know hat a stellar job malky Mackay has done in two full seasons as our manager, with help from tan and his millions of course but Malky has bought wisely and is also building for our future. In terms of this season well it's going to be no given to stay in this league that's for sure, malky is going to have his work cut out but I believe we can stay up and defy the bookies odds
Looking at our squad it's evident that we need a few nmore bodies in, personally I would like to see a winger, defensive midfielder and at least two defenders( 1 centre back and a full back), I think based on the players we have been linked with I'd say malky is lookin for what most fans believe we need, the big question is as we are punching above what many people believe out weight in terms of targets, will malky decide to move on and go for more players to add to the squad that perhaps don't really improve the squad but add numbers? I don't think he will and I agree with his assessment that adding more squad players won't really improve our chances of staying up, so u say what happens if he adds no more to the group?
I still believe we can stay up and the reason I say so is to do with what malky brings to the table, he is a big believer in match preparation, studying details of other teams and deciding how best to play against them, take last season we very rarely played pretty football but we ground results out continoulsy and this was due to a hard work rate and work ethic and a real desire to make the other teams do something spectacular to beat us, this is and was a huge component in our success last season and something many successful promoted teams use to get out of that relentlessly tough league, prime examples being Norwich and stoke of recent years, poor football but had managers that belie in hard work to win games, I feel the premier league is no different, again evident in Norwich an stokes ability to stay in this division and defy the odds over the last few seasons, there are exceptions to this rule of corse ie our neighbours to te west who like to bore their opponents with passes in their own half half a game, the likes of aguero and big players hate being closed down and having a very small of amount of one to move he ball about, giving time and space in the premier league will result in losses and that's why I believe mackays approach will help is grind points out once again this season making us hard to beat is onto going to improve our chances of staying up

Smakerz prediction 16th
4 more players 12/13th

So based on that premise I need a 18th and 17th place not an easy choice but here it goes
Not easy this as there some teams that I feel had poor seasons with players at their disposal ie Newcastle pushing other like Norwich and stoke higher up the table than they perhaps should have finished
Having said that I'm not going for a Newcastle relegation this season and would put them mid table

The bottom half also sees the likes of Sunderland and villa who had poor seasons in my opinion, also Southampton will be there or thereabouts with the above mentioned Norwich

So I'm going for

Norwich

A tough side with a decent manager and top bloke in chris hughton, they struggled for large parts last season and were largely ineffective in their approach I think chris couldn't decide how he wanted to play and other teams tore them apart on occasions but on others ty looked brilliant and for that inconsistency and lack of cutting edge in the signings department I feel it will be a struggle, I could be wrong and they could finish mid table, I also feel they were helped out by under performing sides like Newcastle and Sunderland

Smakerz prediction 17th

The final relegation spot a real toughie in my eyes most will disagree with me not saying Cardiff however I'm going to go for Southampton, it was a tough choice between them Norwich and Aston villa with the latter losing investment from their owner randy Lerner who has been balancing the books since the o'neill era but I believe staying up last season will boost them this year
Back to Southampton, I believe southamptons attacking style of football will cost them dearly next year, they leave way to much space at the back and I believe that the we score more than you job will cost th something which has cost arsenal a lot points over the last few seasons as although fluent attacking wenger hasn't got the likes of keown and Adams at the back anymore and I feel Southampton are the same, lack of strong defenders and real ball winning
Midfielders will see them struggle

Right feel free to post lads bout time we had some more footy banter on this football forum!

What three clubs are we better than ????????

Thu Aug 15, 2013 9:12 pm

Palace definately
Hull definately
Sunderland almost definately, I think Di Canio is going to cause absolute chaos there, he has signed players from everywhere but no quality as far as I can see, but of course you never know with him he could prove me wrong??

Other possibility's round and about

Stoke, don't rate Hughes
Newcastle, could struggle with the new appointment
West Brom dropped off last year
Swansea, poor finish last year and Europa League could cause them difficulties

Then teams like Norwich and Southampton. it's going to beard to predict but so interesting this season :ayatollah:

Well I agree that we will finish above seventeenth, but we only really need to finish above three to stay up. If you like which teams will we finish above then, and who will be the bottom three???

Who knows, if last season is anything to go by it could be any 3 from a number of teams including us. A few wins will be the difference, even the jacks in 9th only had 46 points. I don't take it for granted that we will do better than palace or Hull.

That BT review is good, worth a look, very suprised none of them had us to go down, but they though we would be around and about the bottom.....

Tipping Sunderland to go down.. don't understand.

Re: What three clubs are we better than ????????

On paper defnetly Hull and palace, not far off Sunderland,Norwich,Stoke

Its hard to predict, Hughes at stoke,Di Canio at sunderland could go either way, jacks will probably be safe enough but you never know with a few injuries.Even Everton if they sell Baines and Fellaini could struggle

Re: What three clubs are we better than ????????

Thu Aug 15, 2013 10:15 pm

hull
palace
stoke

newcastle and sunderland need start well to avoid going to management meltdown

if fulhams attacking players of berbatov bent taarabt and ruiz don't hit it off they will face a struggle as all these have potential to easily become disinterested

Newcastle had a thin squad, lost one of they're key strikers and had europe.

Doubt they will be as poor as next time around.

Don't understand people tipping the mackems to go down personally.

I reckon Palace, Newcastle and Stoke will drop this season. We got enough about us to stay up this year, and I have a feeling Hull will as well.

they should be good enough to stay away from relegation fight, but like the year they went down a poor start pardew will be gone then I can see them having massive problems especially if Kinnear has too much influence over the team

If Swansea finish top 6 I will eat my shoes. They've got no f*cking chance of finishing that high.

Palarse still a championship side
Hull just not enough quality
Sunderland I like do canio but when they walk onto the pitch it's out of his hands
Norwich are 'overstayers' and will struggle IMO, could be wrong
Fulham haven't enough quality if Berbatov isn't on form all season
