One thing that did make me chuckle through was when I popped into Home Bargins and seen this in the pet food area

If you really support yet another supermarket to come to the area then you are very shortsighted

Haven't you seen high streets of late then..? where many some indidivual shops owned by local people have been taken out by multinationals who don't give a shit about the local community..?

I work in retail, and they give a lot back to the local community, it's not their fault that the property rent is too high for local business men to afford. They are profitable businesses who will take an opportunity if it arises.

who do you work for if you dont mind me asking..?
Does the profits of Sainsbury or Tesco get spent in the local community then..? NO so its money taken out of the community in fact!!! Yes they can advertise the fact that they have given some local charity £1000 but that nothing compared that a true profits of a shop.
As Ive already said its highs streets like this where individual shops should be offered free rent to help bring a good selection of shops and not the same old, same old.

That isn't a bad idea, but in the current economical climate, these shops would still fail - even with the buffer of free rented premises.
Its a dog eat dog world, and unfortunately the smaller business man must now have an idea so unique, that he can stand out and go into a niche market to offer a desirable service/goods that can't be bought elsewhere.
For our clothing/food ect. The big multi nationals have already won.... The only thing they don't own are the chip shops!

They haven't already won and an example of the reason was yesterday I went into a local fruit shop and they were actually cheaper and the product itself tasted far better and fresher than anything I have had from a multinational. Its getting that message across which is proving to be difficult especailly when you have a local MP like the one in Cardiff South and Penarth who stated that Tesco in Penarth is a local shop when their head office isn't even in wales!!!!!

It's all "ifs and buts" really, we can debate the issue for weeks, reality is, the multinationals have a monopoly now and for an independent business man to compete - he would have to have a lot of start up capital and really push the boat out
And in this climate, it's not possible
