" I WOULD SELL WHITTINGHAM AND . . . "

Sun Aug 04, 2013 12:08 pm

As a fan my opinion is that we should sell Whitts, we would probably get £3m - £4m for him off a Championship club.

7 years he has spent at Cardiff and when he shines he is class but he goes missing on many occasions especially the big games and that is fact and that worries me big time.

If he was consistent I believe a Premiership club would have bought him during the last 7 years.

Remember I am only a fan and we have different opinions, I know it sounds negative but I am being realistic, I also worry about Mark Hudson as well.

I still think we are short of at least 4 quality players to survive in the Premiership, lets hope I am proven wrong or Malky signs the quality required.

Exactly my thoughts, to a side like QPR/Reading but can't see him leaving due to his high wage. I just feel all his confidence has gone, barely shoots now and it's beyond repair.

he deserves his chance with us in the prem same as McNaughton, might not be a regular starter but he has suffered heartache for us in the past and now he should enjoy the good times with us aswell, understand where annis coming from though

Whittingham will be a different player in the prem,he ll have more time and space to spray the ball around, his free kicks are worth it alone,if he's on form of course, hope I'm right anyway

We were extremely hopeful that McNaughton got his chance in the Premier League, why would we dump Whittingham?

It doesn't look like we need to sell before we buy and if we did there are a few midfielders that could go before him.

on yesterdays showing you are wrong to want to sell whittingham.... he put is foot in and he put that tackle on their player which led to kims goal (which the player made the most of it and the ref played on. the chievo coach subbed that player straight after goal) he looks as tho he has lost a bit of weight and he looked sharp like he did against newcastle last season. whitts will shine in the premier league

I feel losing players like Whitts and Hudson would weaken us.
Keep them and add the 4 players...

Selling whittingham would be criminal!

Especially having not been given his chance in the premiership yet.
A good campaign will involve rotation of the squad, especially with cup competitions!
With more time on the ball and possibility of stroking a few free kicks from around the edge of the box, as mentioned above, he is a much needed player in more respects than one.
As long as he can still deliver those killer balls in , and corners for our big lads, (caulker, cornelius, turner, Hudson) he is always going to be a danger with his accuracy.

If after a season, he doesn't get many chances or underperforms, then I would maybe look at moving him on but for me, it's too early yet.

Why sell him when he hasn't kicked a ball for us in the PL yet. Bizarre.

Sorry completely disagree, Whitts just oozes quality, last year he was used as our "quaterback" because of his passing ability, I personally think he is much more suited in a attacking role from midfield, his goals and assist over the seasons gone by prove that. I think if Malky gets Capoue or another player to fit the role of a sitting midfielder then we'll see the best of Whitts, imagine the damage him and Kimbo could do together.

Also disagree with Hudson, the man is an absolute warrior, he might not be the most mobile centre half you'll come across but his reading of the game makes up for that, since watching the City I don't think we've had a centre half that can read the game better than Huds, on top of that he's good in the air, has quality distribution and is a real leader of men, we always look a lot more comfortable and confident when Huds is at the back

I think the both more than deserve their chance of playing in Prem with the City. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I can see the joined up writing which leads to a conclusion that we should cash in on Whittingham and Hudson.

Also I'm not convinced that PW would get "more time on the ball" in the Premiership. TBH I think that is one of the urban myths that pop up now and again. Surely against fitter and more technically gifted players your decision making would have to be quicker not slower?

Of course getting rid would mean we have to find better first.

Said it ever since he scored 20+ goals in the Championship because he was moved into the centre the next season and was never the same IMO. People were saying that he was the best crosser in the Championship yet was moved into the centre after his bet ever scoring season!!!

Ive been remainded of it by 'some'posters but my feelings have never changed that they should have cashed in on him after that season and would have got much more than what he is valued at now.

I thought that Whittingham was excellent yesterday back to what we have seen him do in the past.

Hopefully he can do it all season, only had a full season of quality off him so far.

Bad timing.......Whitts was excellent yesterday  :ayatollah:

Malky said he would give every player the chance to cut it at prem level and I think we should trust his judgement on this.He will,IMO sell anyone that doesn't cut it regardless of personal feelings and thats the way it should be.I'm hoping the fact that we'll play far fewer games this year means that players like Whitts won't have to play on empty like he's done on many occasions before.

Re: " I WOULD SELL WHITTINGHAM AND . . . "

I agree with OP.

I thought we should have sold Whittingham the summer after he had the season of 20+ goals.

When the big games come, I don't recall Whittingham having a stand out game against Blackpool play off final, Portsmouth FA Cup, Reading Play off semis......etc

I wouldn't sell him, his first touch and distribution are first class, for his freekicks alone he's worth keeping.

Ridiculous beyond belief. He was the main reason we gained all those wins at the start of last season. He didn't play so well afterwards as he was burnt out having played so many games for the club over the last 7 seasons. He looked superb yesterday and has had to reinvent himself. In addition, the club at this point do not want to lose straight away the heartbeat of the club or we will be the next QPR. Enjoy Witts a wonderful passer of the ball and dominates many matches from midfield. Limbo is the flavour of the month at the moment as he is a different kind of player with many tricks. Many thought he was the best yesterday. Again ridiculous. Witts ran the game. Disappointed with your comments on this one Annis.

Poor Whits has suffered after doing whatever is needed of him a bit like Rooney at United....

Play him further forward in his best position, and we should see the best of him, Malky will get a defensive midfielder in and Whits will get his chance to show us if he is good enough.....

could you play whitts in the prem in the centre of a 442?maybe if he was behind a forward in a 4411 then yes or out wide,i doubt he,ll be a force in a 2man centre midfield.you have had him 7 years.why hasn,t he been snapped up in that time by a prem club when he was doing well in the championship?

IMO he'll do well in the premiership he will need to be rested looking at him yesterday his work rate was excellent. What did worry me was his lack of confidence in shooting from range yesterday tried to go on that little bit more when he should have been having a crack at goal.

Hudson wait and see but for me Caulker & Turner as the CB pairing.

Re: " I WOULD SELL WHITTINGHAM AND . . . "

I worry a bit about Whitts and Hudson too. But they have been two of our most consistent players over
the last few years and at the very least will be good players to have on the bench. I do see where the
O/P is coming from but i wouldnt sell them - Yet!

QPR/Reading is still our level at the moment. If we survive and he doesn't perform we'll see. But if we're relegated then he's a top end Championship player for sure!

I'm sure he got the two assists against Blackpool, Leicester Away scored that Free kick, Leicester home held is nerve and scored the penalty to make it 3-2, also hit the bar bar in that game. Liverpool final I thought he was our best attacking player by a mile. In a attacking role and confident Whitts is a class act, he'll cause problems in the PL. :ayatollah:
