Swansea City's Angel Rangel shocked by former team-mate Steven Caulker's move to Cardiff
South Wales Evening Post
Aug 1st, 2013
Angel Rangel admits he is shocked by Steven Caulker's move to Cardiff City.
ANGEL Rangel admits he is shocked after Steven Caulker joined Cardiff.
The former Swansea City loanee yesterday completed a £9 million switch to the Bluebirds, who broke their transfer record to land him on a four-year deal.
Caulker spent a hugely successful season at Swansea during their first Premier League campaign and has gone on to play for England.
Despite that, the 21-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Spurs and has moved to Swansea's arch-rivals.
"Being an England international and playing for Spurs, with respect, you would expect him to go to a big club," said Rangel.
"He could play for Arsenal or that kind of team.
"He's gone to Cardiff for some reason, I didn't expect it, but he knows he will probably be playing regularly, week-in, week-out.
"I think it will be a good move for him." Caulker is now likely to come up against Swansea when Michael Laudrup's side clash with the neighbours this term.
Rangel is a veteran of seven South Wales derbies and believes Caulker's involvement will give the next couple of meetings an added edge. Swansea travel to the Cardiff City Stadium in November, with Malky Mackay's side making the return trip three months later.
"It will add more spice having an ex-Swansea footballer in the other side," said the right-back.
"It will add more motivation seeing a player who has played here playing for our rivals.
These games are all about emotion and excitement. Whoever plays, Cardiff against Swansea is always going to be exciting, dangerous, whatever you want to call it. Hopefully things will go our way and we will win it."

Fair enough, only 1/2 jibes.
just looked on planet swamp for their view, of the top 10 threads 3 are about cardiff/caulker and none are about the Swansea team or football, generally looking shocked or jealous so good sign

I for one think the lad has moved here for footballing reasons as he wants to play regular first team football which makes a refreshing change to the bloody mercenaries out there now. We might not be 'A big club' YET. but at least he put 'with respect'

I smell fear.
Even though Rangel is not actually quoted using the word shocked (more journalistic license in the headline) if you replace the word shocked for scared you've probably got a truer understanding of what our little brothers down west are thinking.
Not just because of the Caulker signing but of what further signings may follow. Caulker may well be the snowball pushed off the top of the mountain and as it rolls it can only get bigger.
Hats off to Malky, he obviously sells the club superbly well to get players of this calibre to sign whilst we are still developing and trying to establish ourselves in the Premier.

Why is he even commenting on it? Why is their local rag even asking him about it?
F*ck me they are in Europe this season, cant they drop the obsession for one minute.
Sad bastards

The day of their big European return & they print this?

obsession.

Exactly. Thats the shocking thing, not the fact Caulker has signed for us.
I watched their fall & rise programme last night, and apart from one or two glaring errors (no mention of shafting the local creditors, making out they had succesive promotions) it was a good watch, and you cannot deny it is a good story. If it was anyone but the Jacks I think we would be applauding if someone like Bradford, or Plymouth for example did something like that.
So theyve got a story as great as that, culminating in their finest hour tonight, and they are more interested in our new signing. Drop the chip off the shoulder ffs!!!

Chuckles, do you not sleep mate? I also agree with you here but as we all know, the Jacks will forever be obsessed with us.

Swans fans don't buy the Evening post and rallied for the club to ban them, its notoriously anti Swansea even though HQ is based there. constantly looking for slants away from positive news stories. It was them that were doing most of the Laudrup stirring, even repeatedly asking Laudrup after beating some dutch side 5-1.
they seem like they are continuing their ant swans stance trying to stir up some swans Cardiff rivalry.

To be fair, he's only echoing what the rest of the football world felt when you got him.I still can't believe it myself. Was hoping to wake up this morning and it had been all a bad dream.

Glad I made you happy for a day.
Here's a few more related words which should keep you ecstatic for a week:
alarm, angst, anxiety, dismay, dread, fearfulness, fright, horror, panic, scare, terror, trepidation, unease, worry.
They all have relevance in Jackland.
We're coming for you.

Don't be daft mun.Do you think the likes of Michu will have even heard of Caulker?.You've made 1 proper signing so far this season and that's Caulker.Cornelius is untested so that could go either way.Your defence is now a lot stronger.Midfield next and then a proven striker and your halfway there.

These jack cunts need to realise who we are. Our first season and we're already making bigger and better signings than them. Get used to it

He's moved here because Malky has told him our plans and he can see he will be part of something massive

Yes, he played against him last year FFS.

Michu is hardly THAT big.
Cornelius is a proper signing too, as is Brayford. Unless, of course, you don't count Bony as a proper signing, or Michu as one last season.

Seriously, some of you seem to think you're much bigger than you are.

My point was,Chucks. The Hanged Man just reeled off 20 explanations for the word 'fear' and so on and claimed we're all crapping it,basically.Us fans were shocked and a little envious, yes but do you honestly think the players we've got here will carry that onto the pitch and let it affect their performance? Oh come on
