CARDIFF CITY A BIG DRAW

Sun Jul 28, 2013 8:53 am

Perhaps Cheltenham haven't heard we are big time Premier league now, around 1,000 of their fans bother to turn up to see us, perhaps there was a good film on the TV.

We aren't. Simple as that. :?

We've just been promoted to the Premier League albeit as champions.
So have Hull & Crystal Palace. None of us are 'big time Premier League' IMO.

Gwyn, sadly we've never been a big name on the pitch, just off it.Weve never been a big draw, we will need at least 5 seasons in top flight football to be recognised as a big club.

Yeah you'd think being as big as Everton there'd have been more than a 1000 there.

Unfortunately this is only too true and not only in the eyes of rival supporters. This is part of the reason Malky is having to work so hard to bring in top class players. Our reputation as a small time selling club is a historical fact that will take a few years to shift. This is why it makes me laugh when people say we are losing our heritage and traditions. This IS a part of our history that I would like to forget. And before all the Gogs come out and say its only because were welsh, that actually couldn't be further from the truth.

Stoke and West Brom have been in the prem a while now, but neither of them would have drawn big crowds at cheltenham yesterday.

In fairness lads I don't think Cheltenham would have got many more home fans there unless it was one of the big 6 -or one of the big Midlands clubs (as a lot of the local population support these sides)

1000 is a good chunk of their normal home crowd. It's a small town where football isn't that important.

It's to our credit that we took over 1500 there for what we knew would be meaningless game.

you played reading yesterday who are favourites to get back in the prem and there was less than 7.000 to watch your lot and you only took a few hundred fans!!! your no big draw.

Swansea had about 1000 there yesterday, and reading and swansea have played each of so many times over the last few season's it no big deal for both sets of fans, and reading have been in the PL a couple of times recently. As for cheltenham they are a small club that i doubt will ever make it to the PL, so one would think their fans would turn out in big numbers to watch a PL team, but obviously the fans of cheltenham dont think cardiff is box office. :thumbright:

If they can't attract a big crowd at reading, what hope would they have at Cheltenham?
