A forum for all things Cardiff City

Just got back from Forest Green.
I know it was only a a friendly and you can never totally Judge how City will do from pre-season games, as over the years Ive seen City win all their friendlies then go on a loosing streak in the league and I have also seen City lose every friendly game and go on and do well.
Tonight I was the closest Ive ever been to Malky whilst a game has been in progress and I have to say, yes it was only a friendly against a 5th division club, but boy does Malky want to win every ball and hates conceding goals with a passion, I virtually heard every instruction he shouted out for 90 mins and he never stops.
Afterwards he was talking to the tv and the reporters and was asked what areas he was looking at to strengthen, cleverly Malky stated " I am looking for good players in all areas. "
But I have to add maybe he really needs to, as I have stated since last season finished, I believe at least 8 new quality players are needed, just my opinion as I am only a fan.
I honestly only see most of our current team as cover.
I also see Malky letting at least 5 players go as the season progresses.
Our defence looked very very poor tonight and Forest Green tore them apart at times and for a 5th division club we made their goals look easy, but there again it was only a friendly.
Our defence does worry me.
On the bright side going forward we looked quick, fit and looking to score goals at every opportunity.
Great Support from the City fans 500-600
Also plenty of BLUE and plenty of singing " WERE CARDIFF CITY WE'LL ALWAYS BE BLUE. "
Fans mixed well and no bad feelings over the colour.

I saw malkys interview tonight and he knows he has to strengthen.
i agree about 8 quality players needed, hopefully we'll see some movement soon.

Bit of an overstatement to say that Forest Green tore the defence apart for goodness' sake. It was the team's first game of pre-season.
Jesus Christ!

So do you think conceding 3 goals against Forest Green is ok/good/alright?

Couldn't care less. Honestly, will you remember it once the season begins? Will it play on your mind constantly, drowning you in doubt?

Remember we lost last season to Forest Green and we went on to win the league.

From a good mate who went tonight there was positeves from Noone and Kimbo. Whilst i heard Bellers was shocking

Cambpell was carrying a bit of weight and Mason looked slow. What is the views of any that went tonight ?
Also how was Whitts played ?
Thu Jul 25, 2013 12:06 am
Forest Green must be better than Liverpool then. Liverpool only managed 2 in 120 minutes of play against a weaker Cardiff City.

Masons movement was good, Campbell looked sharp, Bellamy slow, didnt see much of kimbo tbh, and Cornelius looked promising!

Thought kev and turner was outstanding, thought Hudson and Taylor were poor tonight, but we conceded the goals when we played with our two attacking wingers whereas in the first half we conceded one with our two defensive wingers in conway and smith which shows what malky does do when playing with those two negative wingers

Hold on, you're saying that we should be happy that the team conceded 3 goals to a non-league side?
BUT every time I post you only make sarcasm replies?
I am just having a football debate/discussion about tonights game.
If you could not careless why reply?
Thats what this forum is about not just sarcasm, if not interested stay of my topics

He should stop looking and try to do this new thing the kids are doing called signing them.
Thu Jul 25, 2013 5:01 am
The current team wouldn't stand a chance of staying up.
We need players and before long it's going to be a case of taking any average/good player. Prob joey Barton
Our scout net work must be piss poor, especially in Europe.
Sort it out Malky or you will be out of a job by Christmas

Dear oh dear oh dear, well and truly owned, it's funny how some people contradict their own posts just for the satisfaction of having a go at someone repeatedly, sad, very sad. it''s a discussion forum ffs not a point scoring exercise.
Some on here really need to get a grip.
Rant over

I know it was only a ore-season friendly but defensively that was appalling. I think a big part of it was complacency but still. I have no doubt we are going down with our current squad so to be so close to our first match and so little transfer activity seems to point that we don't know what we are doing. Are we aiming too high or afraid to aim too low? I'm worried that we just know who we need to fit into our team / playing style that we have a great chance if actually signing.
For me we need at least another 5 but ill be amazed if we get more than another 2. I pray I''m wrong (again

)
Keep the faith and all that

Yes, if I was to get straight to the point, but then I am only a fan, I fear for this team, unless a major overhaul is done, just my opinion.

I guess Man Utd need another 6-7 players to not get relegated then....
Thu Jul 25, 2013 8:27 am
I don't think we need a shed load of players like some people suggest, but we definitely need to strengthen the defence. A new right back, new centre back and we should be fine. Possibly a left back too if the right deal pops up.
I think we're ok for strikers now, especially as we may be playing 4-5-1 a lot of time. Maybe a new winger is needed, we can't rely on Noone and Conway.
Thu Jul 25, 2013 8:37 am
Everybody needs to relax we have been back training just over a week and last night fielded two sides.
No need to panic just yet it is all about building up match fitness.
Lower league sides and non league sides have been in pre season far longer as their season starts earlier.
Thu Jul 25, 2013 8:56 am
By 1st September we will have recruited 7 players
Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:26 am
I agree we need to strengthen our squad but I honestly wouldnt read to much into the result. Didnt we lose to them last year and yet went on to win the championship?? Im sure there be alot of activity between now and the start of the season. Think positive!!
Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:37 am
what a surprise sam is back on scene spouting about massive overhaul and now annis who sat with him last night is also calling for massive overhaul it not needed 3/4 good players in defensive will be needed plus good winger to supply crosses.Noone may flourish in this division as the better the league the better chance of you having space to shine.
Thu Jul 25, 2013 10:13 am
Mind our defence did well against some of the forward options at Liverpool. I'm sure there will be some additions, I trust Malky's judgement.
Thu Jul 25, 2013 11:26 am
I never pay much notice to pre-season frendlies and always view them as a glorified training excecise and the opportunity for match fitness & try different formations. I remember seing us concede 5 to Oxford in 92, 5 to West Brom in 98 and we went on to win promotion!!
What really matters is that come 3pm on 18th August that the side is ready to go. I have no doubt by then Malky will know his best starting line up & formation
Thu Jul 25, 2013 11:33 am
I'm not that worried at present. Didnt Newcatsle once lose 6-1 to leyton orient in a friendly then stormed the champiosnhip a few years back.
Shouldnt look too muhc into this.

Annis My advice would be to ignore those comments that you are not happy with. People will have a go just because it is you. Rarher than show that they might have got under your skin a little just let those things slide. Just my opinion.
Thu Jul 25, 2013 11:35 am
When will people realise that pre-season friendlies are nothing more than a glorified training session, experimenting for Malky, game time for players and entertainment for fans. Our defence conceded 3 goals yesterday, oh wait we had a different team for each half, some of which are fringe players who haven't played league games in the same team as some.
Of course Malky would have been annoyed at us conceding, he doesn't like losing and would hate for our fans to feel they've wasted money from seeing a half hearted performance but they didn't.
Of course we will recruit, when will people realise, IT'S PRE-SEASON. PRE SEASON
If we concede three goals against West Ham I will see your point but nope

You were set up there mate to be sounding like Sam
You are right we need two defenders or prem striker will tear in new arse hole in our defense
