Sam Hammam on brink of Cardiff return

Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:06 am

Monday 22nd July 2013

SAM HAMMAM is on the brink of an astonishing return to Cardiff.

The club’s former owner, who was ousted in a boardroom coup seven years ago, is rumoured to be set for a key role with the Bluebirds.
The Sun understands billionaire owner Vincent Tan has all but resolved the financial differences he inherited when he bought the club.
And when they are settled it is believed he intends to bring Hammam back in from the cold as the club starts life in the Premier League.
Tan wants someone alongside him who knows what is needed to survive in the top flight.
It was the maverick Lebanese businessman who took Wimbledon into the First Division in 1986 and, against all odds, kept them there for 12 seasons.
Hammam inspired the Crazy Gang to their memorable 1-0 FA Cup win over Liverpool in 1988.
It was only after he left that they were relegated and had to move to Milton Keynes to survive.
Yesterday, no one at Cardiff would confirm Hammam’s comeback but a source said: “If it’s true — and I have not heard anything — it will be a very astute move by the owner.
“Sam has the one thing no one here has — experience in the Premier League.
“Getting promoted was hard but staying there is going to be even harder.
“OK, he ruffled a few feathers when he was here but people should never forget he sowed the seeds of the new stadium and what he achieved at Wimbledon is unprecedented.
“If it is true he’s coming back, it will be a brilliant signing.”

Well it was certainly not me as Ive just arrived home and spoke to no one whilst in America.

But the story is looking very likely, Tan has asked Sam to join him and its looking like it might happen, Tan and Sams decisions, not mine, not ours, theirs, whether we like it or not, like most of you say Tan makes the decisions and seems to do want he wants

Hey, if Sam is prepared to buy hs way back into the club, by changing £20 million of debt to equity then who are we to protest such a move. He will never be in a position again to be reckless with the clubs money. I really don't see though where he fits into the clubs day to day activities. He can't really be a spokesperson any longer, as these days all that wacky madness of his doesnt really wash with fans. The Premier league is now a hyper professional machine. I don't really see any place on the footballing side either as Malky has assembled a highly experienced team around him of scouts and negotiators. You, wouldn't want Sam in charge of any development projects as that area was always a weakness of his. So, I can only really see him having a very hands off role as a Life President, to stroke his ego, who will reap the financial rewards should we stay in the Premiership for a number of seasons. :ayatollah:

Sam back is terrible news, even more for City fans to argue over ......

Still on the positive side at least the debt will be gone :ayatollah:

I asked Borley about this on twitter, and he said to his knowledge it isn't true!

Can't belive people on this site are still reading that rag!

Re: Sam Hammam on brink of Cardiff return

If it gets the debt off the books and then an equity switch, I say, let it happen.

If all this comes off we have to give Tan a massive thanks. Yes, the colour didn't need to change but if he's true to his word with equity, training facilities and expansion we have to see the benefits without being blinkered to our own beliefs.

I think the way forward will now be wait for the future sale of the club and lobby potential buyers with a return to blue. IF it all comes off obviously, until then the fight continues.

Re: Sam Hammam on brink of Cardiff return

Mon Jul 22, 2013 6:46 am

Maybe he would persuade tan to go back to blue? :D

What harm can he cause anyway he won't make the final decisions.

This premier league experience doesn't sit well with me it was years ago

His appearance on the board could help, but bearing in mind Sams attempts to quash Annis' conversation, with Tan, about always being blue, you'd think Sam is maybe more on Tans side. Unless this was just to get his money back.

I had a post removed off this thread by Annis and rightfully so. I intimated that whoever contacted The Sun
was disrespecting the memory of Dyeo. That was wrong of me, we dont actually know if
it was just The Sun making the whole story up as usual. I get pissed off and angry just seeing any
links to that foul rag on here or on Mikes board but its no excuse, i overstepped the mark

I will say though to the o/p - and anyone else - think about what that paper did before you ever
pick it up or buy it, and every time you click onto a link online it puts money in their pocket cos
it makes it more attractive to advertisers

Scam Hammam can f**k off. Lying tw*t has no place at this football club.

It's going to be an interesting season that's for sure.
If this is what it takes to sort Langston then so be it.

Tan will still be running the show that's what counts.

Fortunately it's not for people like you to decide, who has a place at the club.

Oh Dear is that really your response.

As far as I'm concerned I want to see The City supported by as many people as possible, who have Cardiff City's success at heart.
That includes Hammam.
What fans like you don't understand is that he is a successful International businessman and you are not. Maybe you are jealous of the sums of money these types of people make.
Now that Tan and Hammam have reportedly come to an agreement, then that is the business done and dusted(I doubt you were consulted)
All you have to do is turn up and watch the football that you pay for. Anything else has nothing to do with you, as much as you wish otherwise.

Yep, he really had CCFC'S success at heart, especially when he demanded an extra 500k as he left.

Fans "like me"? Could you clarify your point? Jealous? Not at all, I'm very happy with my life. What a silly assumption to make. I'm just looking out for the club I support, last time he was here, he lied & fleeced this club.

Now that Tan and Hammam have reportedly come to an agreement, then that is the business done and dusted(I doubt you were consulted)

as a supporter & follower of the club, I have great interest of the running of the club I put my money into & will give my opinions, regardless whether you like them or not.

Another excellent piece of sports journalism by the sun. Read a very common knowledge rumour regarding Sams possible return, write a few facts about him that every football fan knows and hey presto you got a story. Not worth the waste of column inches.

Maybe he's bitter not jealous? Cos Hammam kidded everyone into thinking he was funding a personal
crusade because of his love affair with Cardiff City, then dropped the bombshell that it was all lies
and we were £30m in debt. Maybe he's bitter that Hammam screwed CARDIFF CITY FOOTBALL CLUB
for an extra £500k before he left, and even made them throw in £150k for his brother.

Oh the love he had for Cardiff City - until he could no longer cash cheques in the Clubs name
