The campaign to remove shirt sponsorship

Sun Jul 21, 2013 1:55 pm

Here is another petty-minded campaign for the emotionally-stunted faction of City supporters to distract the clubs efforts with: The campaign to remove shirt sponsorship:

Liverpool was the first English professional club to have a sponsor's logo on its shirts, after agreeing a deal with Hitachi in 1979 and from there all other clubs followed suit including Cardiff City and I think its a disgusting betrayal of our traditions. Mr Tan has lot to answer for, introducing shirt sponsorship to Cardiff City. The man has no respect for the club's history and its fans, even though had nothing to do the with club until a couple of years ago, Everything that has ever gone wrong with this club is his fault, including everything that went wrong even before the Universe came to be.

When we were playing in shirts with no sponsorship you could see the players much better, we didn't kow-tow to corporate sponsorship, we were a proper football club then, playing in the Methodist and District Sunday Football League.

OK, Liverpool may have been winning all the silverware then and admired throughout the world, but who needs happy memories, when misery is so much more fun?

Join the campaign to remove sponsorship from our glorious shirts. We don't need corporate involvement. We're Cardiff City. We were the best club in the world because of our pure, virtuous sponsorship free shirts. Now look at us. We've got sponsorship all over our kit and its been nothing but shame and under-achievement ever since. Boo-hoo! Boo-hoo! Sniff, Blub!

Yawn.

Bet his mothers 3 main regrets were not making the bathwater hotter, not drinking enough gin and not using long enough knitting needles. The only point to him is that his kidneys and liver could benefit someone else.

Unfortunately its the pro-blue rinse brigade who are the trolls.

The club has enough headaches preparing for its first ever season in the premier league and it doesn't need the pro-blue rinse brigade giving them any more.

See, this is exactly what shirt sponsorship does to people. Join the campaign to remove shirt sponsorship and we shall have back our flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles.

It's meant to be humorous enough that you don't have to explain it. It wasn't.

Whether you are a 'troll' as aforementioned or just trying to get a laugh from a small minority of red fans, is hard to see, but calling a section of Cardiff's fan base 'emotionally-stunted' because they have a strong belief that you oppose is rather ridiculous and petty. If you need an idea for a new campaign, how about one where you stop making posts aimed at provoking loyal fans. Cheers.

But what exactly is it that those fans are loyal to? It isn't the club, that's for sure because the club has changed its colour and its ground several times in the past without complaint. So, come on, what is really at the heart of it all this fuss?

These fans are so 'loyal' that they caused Mr Tan to have to speak out a few days ago - and that got reported around the world. Those 'loyal fans' should be embarrassed to have brought such shame upon the club. Who needs enemies when you have fans like that?

You sound like a well-versed club official not a free-thinking, free-willed fan with a right to their own belief. Who says that as fans there's an obligation to do what Tan says we should. There will be fans who have supported the city for years and years to the point where it becomes an investment that you want to see the club succeed but that doesn't mean that we have to abide by everything the club says we should do. And so in response to what these fans are loyal to, it's not the club but their own beliefs that they're loyal to.

Why should you mock their right to a belief? Because you don't like it?

And who would give a spare thought to poor Mr. Tan because he has to speak to media to state how unruly we fans are, I certainly wouldn't. If he wants fans to be 'respectful' and 'appreciative' then maybe he should have laid his cards on the table from Day 1 instead of trying to trick us into believing we're something we're not, bit by bit, behind our backs.

He may own a big part of Cardiff City Football Club, but he certainly doesn't own the fans one bit. So hows about you step away from the propaganda machine and wake up a bit. Well done for gaining a reaction from someone, top marks fella.

Now you are talking nonsense. Changed it colours several times?

Cardiff City FC has always been known to wear blue, ever since it was known as Cardiff City FC & has changed grounds ONCE.

It's a simple fact that many fans wish to see their club in its rightful colours.

If you don't like the product you should consider supporting another club. Clearly what matters to you more is the colour blue than the fact its your local club. Clearly it matters more to you than club unity. I don't think its healthy for the club to have people with such issues hanging around it.

Those sticks-in-the-mud deluded by the idea they can hold the club to ransom should think again. Cardiff has a huge catchment area. For each one of those sticks in the mud, there is a dozen other fans happy to take their place. In my opinion the club would be a happier place if that divorce were to happen sooner rather than later.

If a player was to behave the way these so-called 'loyal' fans are behaving (like spoiled brats) he would be on the transfer list faster than you can say Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz.

As Alexander the Great was reputed to have said "I cannot have anyone with me who isn't with me."

I fear that you've failed to address anything I've actually said and only furthered your own stereotype. The trouble in a club, or society, or at any level is not those have 'issues' or questions that need answering, it's those who blindly follow what they are led to believe. A bit of advice for you would be to avoid quoting primitive dictators.

As Dietrich Bonhoeffer definitely said "It is the nature, and the advantage, of strong people that they can bring out the crucial questions and form a clear opinion about them. The weak always have to decide between alternatives that are not their own."

Don't flatter yourself. Having strong opinions and having the means to run a Premier League club are two entirely different things and its your failure to comprehend the difference that endangers the club's future.

If you do have £100m to buy the club off Mr Tan fair enough, and if you changed the colour back to blue I couldn't care less, but you don't so you have no more power to influence the matter than anyone other fan.

What you can do is give Mr Tan reason to reconsider his involvement. He already showed his displeasure in his comments last week. If he withdrew and left the club without funding, you haven't got the capital to pick up the tab and until you have, you should think carefully about your own conduct.

You wouldn't bite the hand that feeds you, so by the same token, don't bite the hand that feeds your club.
