Ashley Williams...

Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:23 am

I expect this topic has been done before but I'm interested in people's opinions of him as a footballer - put aside our rivalry with the back jastards for a moment...

The press reckon from time to time that the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in the guy, the Swans think the sun shines out of his arse and he's the Welsh captain.

I honestly don't rate him though - I think he's slow, ponderous and is so prone to making clumsy back passes and scoring own goals...

What on earth do people see in him?

I thought he would struggle in premier league but he has done well and is a very good player. Shouldnt play for wales though as grandparent rule is bollox.

Re: Ashley Williams...

Not a bad player, not an outstanding player either though. Don't think he should be captain of Wales however, as he isn't Welsh. :laughing6:

I'd say the same about a CCFC player too.. Not just because he's a jack.

Re: Ashley Williams...

Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:36 am

He's a Bristolian by birth, ain't he?

Re: Ashley Williams...

Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:37 am

He's a good player, thought he would struggle but has held his own.

Re: Ashley Williams...

Amongst the top few central defenders under 30 years of age in the Premier league. Lead the Premier league in blocks and interceptions last year.

Re: Ashley Williams...

Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:53 am

Think he's a top class defender. Has the ability to read the game well and therefore be in the right position at the right time. He makes countless interceptions and breaks up play. If he played for us, fans would love him. A better version of Scott Young.
Re whether he's Welsh or not... If he has any Welsh ancestry, then that's good enough for me. He has some Welsh blood in his veins. What I do find pathetic is the residency rule. How Arteta can now play for England. That is nuts.

Fat. English. Overated.

do you think he should play for wales?

Re: Ashley Williams...

Whilst the ruling is in place, yes. I'm not a fan of the ruling though. I certainly feel that the Welsh captain should be a Welshman.

Re: Ashley Williams...

Very good player and one of the top 5 CB's in the division.Whether he's Welsh English or Israeli,I don't care. He's captain of Swansea and our leader and a great one at that.

 Top 5.. Okay.

The issue I brought up was that he shouldn't be captain of WALES, not Swansea.

Not just saying this cos he's a jack but I honestly think he's crap James Collins is much better than Williams IMO and I would have made him Wales Captain. :ayatollah:

Well that shows how deluded you are if you think Williams is better than Ivanovic and Agger etc. and Hudson will prove to be better than him next season

No,what i find incredible is you saying Hudson and Collins are better centre halfs

Re: Ashley Williams...

Hudson could prove just as good as Williams next season. Williams proved he can cope in the premiership & I think Mark will too. You cannot say Mark's better at the moment though, as there is no proof.

Collins better than Williams? Nonsense.

I don't believe that Williams is top 5 CB in Premiership either.. That's just showing your allegiances a little too much. He is good though.

Far too error prone, however. Specialises in shite back passes.. Definitely top fine in that dept. :laughing6: Even better than Frank Sinclair

When you watch wales matches when both Collins and Williams is playing Collins saves Williams ass so many times. When we played Belgium Collins was outstanding then got sent off for challenge that was a yellow. At worst and we lost.

He made 2 clangers at the start of last season. After that he was exemplary

Have to agree with OP. Every time I see him play for Wales he's slow and clumsy and often makes costly mistakes.

The attempts at being unbiased by yourself and others made me smile, credit where credits due he's a class act though it pains me to say it.
