Just had a quote to have a Combi 30 kw installed.
Quoted £2100.
I've got a couple more coming around but trying to judge if this first quote is a good baseline.

depends on make of boiler..dont forget you could get the boiler yourself and get it fitted....but i think you could shave £500 off that price...if it is just supply and fit a boiler...

Paid 1920 to replace my convential boiler to a combi worcester 38kw about 3 months ago. He done powerflush, fitted magnaclean, new roomstat, extra trv and fitted rad in airing up the price was all in for everything supply and fitted.

Bloody hell that's expensive £2100. I rent a. House out been employing gas engineers. for years ,they can be a bit greedy to say the least .
Most gas engineers will tell you Worcester bosh are the best your looking at around £1600 to 1800 .
The ideal ,lower end of market I was quoted last week at £1100 ( check if vat inclusive)
I've been using a bloke for a couple of years, who I trust immensely , he's a fellow bluebird season ticket holder in the ninian stand near me . If you want his number pm me . Bluebirds
Ideal is the make I have been quoted for.

That's a very good price and sounds well fitted. To the original post there are many variables, conventional to combi involves a fair bit of work 2-3 days for one man, more if the original boiler is on 15mm gas pipe, most combi boilers reqire 22mm pipe, depending on distance from the meter. Combi to combi is easier and usually 1-2 days again depending on gas pipework and easy draining of condensate discharge. The most important thing is make sure the installer thoroughly cleans the system, could add an extra day if powerflushed properly, after all if you had a new engine in your car you'd never put dirty oil back into it, and trust me I've seen very good boilers with shit loads of problems because the system water has fucked up the internal parts.

2-3 years ago now. I can give you their number if you like and theyl pop round and give you a quote. Worcester are the best and they have 5-7 yr warranty on them if fitted by certain corgi fitters. He did do it cheaper because its my mate and his dad but i could have a word for you. Their also both Cardiff supporters lol

The new ideal i logic boilers are fine, the kw rating is based on water usage i.e if you have one shower then 25-28kw is ample, any more then go up. For a standard 2 up 2 down house with 1 bathroom 28kw max no point going any more you won't need the extra flow rate, and the radiators will only need 15 kw . I fitted a 25kw worcester in my mums it's alright for her. I also fitted a cheap £300 boiler for a mate 5 or 6 years ago and no problems because I made sure that the system was clean as a whistle, a mid range combi is about £600-£800, I think the i logic is about £600, so then it's down to day costs and extra pipe work.
Whatever you have will work no probs but make sure they clean the system I can't stress enough that it's the most important part.

If your wanting it too last and are staying in the house for years, go for a worcester. Get it fitted by a WAI (worcester accredited installer), this way you will get 7 years parts and labour with it. Spend anothe £100 on thier version of the magna clean and it will go up to 8 years. The best thing about Worcester is that guarantee. Other cheaper makes (ideal) ate offering some good deals but in three years time when it breaks, try and get thier engineers out. Worcester are next day. I offer that service and charge around that price. If its for an ideal it's a rip off.

How many bathrooms? the kw rating is based on how much water it can heat up at any given time i.e a 28kw boiler will give approx 12 litres of water at a 35 degree celcius temp rise, so fine if one person is showering, but, if two showers are being used
then you may need 30 plus kilo watts. The only caveat to that is if both showers are electric and not even using the boiler.
It's not scientific just a rule of thumb, but I usually measure 2kw per rad.

Just one bathroom.
I have a shower but it should not be a problem to connect it to the new system.

What boiler you buy though mate? Couldnt of been the best at that price, plus does it come with a 7 year warranty as many Corgi registered fitters offer in certain boilers

No way would I pay £2000+.

New gas run, gas meter downstairs boiler in airing cupboard upstairs, floors up and new gas run, vertical flue through roof, properly flushing gas all safe and signed up. £2000 every 5 years for retraining to make sure you know what you are doing, but ok no way would you pay £2000. Anyone else noticed that there have been some well publicised deaths from gas explosions recently? Pay peanuts you get... well, dead.
