Vincent tan message to disruptive and ungrateful fans

Thu Jul 18, 2013 2:46 pm

18th July 2013

Outspoken Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has urged fans to get behind him and the club ahead of their debut Premier League season, warnig: "If too many of them show we are not welcome, maybe you will have a new owner".

Tan's comments, some of which can be viewed in the video above, came during a eye-opening press conference at the University of South Wales when he also revealed a deal with Sam Hammam to settle the Langston debt is just 'days away'.

The Malaysian billionaire admitted he had been forced to invest more money in the Bluebirds than he had initially planned, and he called for supporters not to be 'negative and disruptive'.

Some fans are still angry at Tan's controversial decision to change the club's colours from blue to red a year ago - a move which led to protests and some disgruntled supporters walking away from the club.

Tan said he currently feels welcome at Cardiff but added: "Yes, I am surprised there are fans against the colour. I'm actually quite disappointed with that.

"After all, for me to invest so much into the club that several times could have gone bust and had financial trouble and a big court case with the former owner....I was willing to invest and put in a lot of money

"Combined with getting into the Premier League...we spent £15m last season to buy players and we went up. That’s how we got up.

"I'm disappointed that after 51 years of not being in the top-flight that there are still some fans who don't think we have done a good job.

"I may say maybe they are not grateful so that part is disappointing.

"But like anything in life in democracy you won't have 100 per cent support.

"We have to think that those against us are about five per cent. We will try to live with that but it is disappointing."

I wonder how long will it take for people to say that 95% are happy and only 5% are against the changes because Tan said so...

well that's not entirely true, 10% maybe totally unhappy, 10% are probably happy, the rest don't give a flying feck because we are in the premiership and moving forward!

Tan threatening again eh?

As it stands - we are in more debt now than when we took over.
He is getting the interest too
Malky got us up - no mention of him or the team.
Just money.

Yes Tan -this is still a democracy.
Try changing FK Sarajavo colours and symbol and see what u
Get.

Stop turning fans against each other and respect
The democracy and feelings of fans

That'll be hard bearing in mind we're nearly part of Somalia, Poland, Romania, India, Pakistan, and god knows how many other countries with the rate we keep importing, about time our exporting arrangements were increased! :old:

Close to an agreement with Langston which destroys the debt logic as he's putting it into equity.
Malky did get us up but not without the financial aid of Tan
Sarajevo are a red/burgandy based club anyway

Yes we are grateful for the investment and help getting into the premier league but there was and still is no justifiable reason to have changed the badge and colour. Unless VT starts to show evidence that we are making a lot of money from Malaysia/China then I will still continue to believe that the only reason the rebrand happened was because he likes the colour red

After all the media attention this has brought and what other clubs fans have chanted at games that Tan was witness to, you'd think he start to understand where we are coming from.

I will elaborate a bit more on the rest.

The rest are happy to see Tan bankroll the club to the then premier and now premier stability.

Been close to an agreement for over a year now.
Words mean nothing yet.
If the deal happens then great.

Does he realise how sterile our fan base will become by getting
Rid of us core "passion" supporters?
If he keeps inflaming - there will be infighting in our ground
Now put up with the '5%' Tan - like we have to with your
Stripping of our identity

"Sarajevo are a red/burgandy based club anyway

What are u on about? - my reference was to changing the colour
That their fans identify with, tatoo themselves with and would bleed for

Not the fact that they are already reddish

FFS Vincent - we are not against you !!!!

But surely you or your advisers can see that this colour change issue could have been handled much, much better.

We are a proud club with a proud history - for many (including me), it feels like a big part of our identity has been lost and the red kit and new badge FORCED on us without so much as consulting/ views of the people who matter - the real Cardiff City supporters.

Not saying you should listen to everything the supporters say but at least take some views on board - it would have been a win/win situation.

Ecstatic BPL CCFC supporters you would have.

Its so sad to read some of the comments on here from lots of true CCFC supporters who have paid with good money, laughter, tears, and pride over the years only to be in conflict with you. It should not be like this.

Some feel so strongly about this, and it could have been avoided with a little give and take/working together/compromise/etc

If you think that football is all about business and nothing else, you are wrong - PRIDE AND PASSION :old: :sad7:

Unfortunately football is a business, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny6EX9VxaqE Matthew Syed highlights the points well on how Abramvoich uses Chelsea in this manner.

What a tw*t Vincent Tan truly is. Shocking comments tell him to f**k off I'm sure there will be other more sensible owners looking to buy PL club with the potential to be huge because of our catchment area. I'm sorry but no one can defend tan for these comments

I have been watching the city for over 50 years. In what should have been have been the best season in my lifetime I find every time I read anything said by our esteemed owner I get really wound up.He shows a complete and utter disrespect to people like me and others who have been supporting this club for many years probably before he even knew football existed.Yes we know hisinput has helped us get to the promised land but why does he have to show such contempt for fans who were around a long time before he was.I shall still attend every match next season and cheer the team on but have to admit the way he behaves makes it much harder than it ought to be.Hes got what he wanted so why cant he throw us a crumb like playing in blue away, its as if he was talking to a load of naughty kids its time he showed the fans a bit more respect.
