January Transfer Targets

Tue Jul 16, 2013 8:40 am

Perhaps we should identify these now and start working on getting them in seeing as it takes Malky and his dossiers about 5 months to land a transfer target.

My excitement for the new PL season has turned to one of aprehension after our inabiity to land our targets.

No good being linked to the likes of Cardoza, Wanyama, Ince.etc if you cant land them.

Cmon City give us something to be positive about.

Totally agree with you polo, we need a signing soon to bring the positivity back :ayatollah:

Pointless looking at January yet. January may be too late. We need to get in some Premiership quality players now. Perhaps we were looking at players out of our range and we need to come up now with some quality, experienced Premier League players.

Hopefully there will be one or two soon as the season will be upon us very quickly and its then difficult to play catch up. :malky:

We must have at least 1 this week even Hull are getting players in. :ayatollah:

That's how I feel... feel like we've missed the boat by waiting too long and hoping we get the best out of a situation. Wanyama I feel is going to be a massive player for Southampton, and will end up at a top 4 club.

Exactly. Two years ago MM blamed our play-off failure against West Ham on the fact he was playing catch up on the transfer market at the start of the season and players hadnt had a full pre-season.

Yep and if we dont get players in fast i feel the blame will be set there again as to why certain players have not featured at the start of the season or a few months in, if we fail it will be the pre season excuse and time to gel reply imo.

We're in the Premiership - we'll be down by then if we don't get our act together before day 1!

I feel the same, when I thought we were gonna be signing quality players I was buzzing and excited for the season to start, but now with this current crop of players I see it being a miserable season. Lets hope malky turns it around soon

Re: January Transfer Targets

Tue Jul 16, 2013 9:17 am

In april malky said that he will be "ruthless" in his preparations for the Premier League and would keep only the most suitable players for the bluebirds' top-flight campaign in 2013-14. So far out of the first team squad, only Helguson has left and cornelius has come in. If this is his ruthless streak we will fail badly with the current squad IMO :ayatollah:

Re: January Transfer Targets

Tue Jul 16, 2013 9:19 am

In january - we will be desperate for a;
defender
winger
GK

and possibly a hold midfield and a striker.

Malky doesnt do january much - convinced he'll be short changed.
Personally, I think you can get some gems in jan - especially with the high stakes of premier league. :ayatollah:

Put your book down and your health performance stats away and feel the FORCE Malky

I'm sure the January targets will become a priority soon after this window closes on 31 August. I'm pretty sure Polo was being ironic talking about the January targets but I agree we need strengthening in this window.

That said I fully expect there to be signings in the coming 6 weeks.

Out of them 9 players who would you say we missed out on ?

Pointless theory in honesty .

Transfers In Hull 6 Palace 3 Cardiff 1.

Yet we're still least fav to be relegated...

That should tell you all you need to know.

I think the irony was lost on a few, Tony.

We could do with one or two this week though. Settle the nerves.

But still one of the three favourites to be one of the three relegated teams.

We already had a squad which was much better than those 2 clubs and being honest still have even after their recent signings.

It's all relative. Many of the so called 'favourite for promotion" teams have strengthened so far and hence we are falling behind, e.g. Norwich, Villa, Sunderland, West Ham, Hull, Palace, etc therefore you cannot argue that we have not fallen behind at this stage. If they are getting stronger it means our chances of survival are reducing. there is time to catch up but it would be nice to see a few new chances in the coming weeks.

With regards to the 9 I am not sure of the 9 you refer to. We have been linked to many players. Several players have decided not to come to us Ince, Robson, Kanu,Mendy and another full back. Wanyama was in reach but City did not want to increase the bid. I personally think that he would have done a cracking job for us so I do see that as one that slipped through the net.

Re: January Transfer Targets

Tue Jul 16, 2013 11:28 am

I'd like to see us take a punt on Wanyamas brother McDonald Mariga Wanyama who nearly signed for Manchester City in 2010 but his work permit application was delayed until after the transfer window closed.

He had been playing for Parma for 3 seasons, 2 in Serie B, but instead of Manchester City he went to Inter Milan and spent last season on loan back at Parma.

Like Victor he is a defensive midfield player who is built like a brick shithouse and Inter are looking to sell or loan out again because of limits on non EU players in Serie A. Inter are looking around 5m euro so a bargain compared to his brother when you consider he is more experienced.

I think people need to give our team more credit, I honestly think if they train they asses off, we could only just survive with this squad. Admittidly I'd rather Malky signs more players, which in confident he will, but I think it's possible. :malky: :ayatollah:

Theres a diffrence between giving a team credit and being a realist and imo we dont have a squad to stay up rite now as where you think its possible :ayatollah:

I can't help but feel we're sort of going down the route of Reading, they were made to rue not strengthening a lot. The money is clearly there

Agreed, I'd rather follow the route of Norwich.
