HUW JENKINS

Thu Jul 04, 2013 9:33 am

Say's he is astonished by the value of young British players after rivals Cardiff look to secure Tom Ince for £8.5m.

This is the same Huw Jenkins that added a £15m buy out clause in young Joe Allens contract.

The buy-out clause in Joe Allens contract turned out to be a cracking bit of business

Just a pity he couldn't use some of the millions the club is making to pay back all the local businesses the club ripped off when they went into administration.

I recently took over a pub, the previous tenants left and also left a pile of unpaid debts. I regularly get the bailiffs in looking for them.

Now, I've taken over a struggling business from scratch and in no way do I feel liable for the previous tenants debts, or should I? :?:

He just threw away £6m of that £15m on Lord Voldemort.

If the debts are in the clubs name then yes.

Re: HUW JENKINS

Not a jack love in but I admire Huw Jenkins.....

Yes, he has got lucky more than once, but he knows the value of a player and acts in the best interest of his employers.

What he says is quite true, British players are over valued but there is a stipulation in all Euro leagues that you must have xx (I am sure the football nerds will tell me) amount of home grown players. So half tidy home grown players are at a premium its called supply and demand.....

There is a danger with so many foreign players in a group that they appear a little mercenary and we have had a few over the year in the premier league that when it gets tough they don't deliver.

Whether Swansea's strategy works again this season is anyone's guess but he is correct about the value of home grown players. £6 million for Shelvey

Whilst i agree with Alex (Scotsjack) i disagree with your comment. i wasnt having a pop at the way he runs your club, considering where some previous owners have taken your club, i think he has done a excellent job. My jab was at this double standard comment about paying over the odds for young brits...

TBF that was great business for them. They have done the same with Laudrup haven't they?

What we offer for a player is none of his business.

If I took on the previous debts at this pub, I would be out of business within a month, my point is, it's not my fault that the previous owners got themselves into trouble, why should I be burdened with something that had nothing to do with me? It's a similar situation to the one that the Swans board found themselves in when they took over? Albeit on a much smaller scale.

As to the point of the thread, I'm not sure what he's on about when he says Ince is overpriced and then he stumps up £6m for Shelvey? No idea whatsoever? Unless there is a big difference in wages, but I would imagine Shelvey will be taking home a decent wedge.

People have totally missed the point of the £15 million asking fee for Joe Allen, that figure was set to try and put clubs off from buying him....
Liverpool stumped up the cash... amazing.. but they did.. he wasn't actually worth it and even though he did well for us I would never claim he was worth that.

So to say that there is double standards from HJ is ridiculous

It is double standards, your just too stupid to understand.

He's astonished at the price of Ince yet is guilty of doing the exact same thing with his own players. Doesnt matter what his intentions were.

if you are going to name call then I think that you are the stupid one.. or just living up to your username

We didn't want to sell Joe Allen, but his head had been turned and that was that..
The way it works.. if a club is happy to sell they do it at a realistic price.. if the do it begrudgingly then the inflate the price... try to understand if you aren't to stupid.. :laughing5:

I didnt call you a name, i just said your stupid & your backing it up now.

He's quite happy to sell for over-inflated prices but not prepared to pay them. In my view there's nothing wrong with that but by going live on air and moaning about it smacks of hypocrisy. Double standards.

Telling me how it works and you aint even got a clue.

Im sure he would agree that joey was overpriced. What do you suggest he do though. Say hang on Liverpool I know you will pay 15 but I think it would be better for the sake of British players if you only paid 5. British players are overpriced no doubt, hj just statef the fact that he felt ince would go for too much. Bare in mind its 3m more than we paid for a Spanish international winger with champions league experience.

I agree but to go live on air and act surprised at the price of a player when he does the exact same thing is hypocritical. That is the only point im trying to make.

If you noticed, I did say theres nothing wrong with what he did re: Joe Allen. He's got the right idea, pay low, sell high.
