Cardiff's biggest name signing

Mon Jun 17, 2013 12:24 pm

Seen on the other board they're arguing whether Dirk Kuyt would be our biggest name signing ever - regardless of age. Nearly 100 caps for Holland.

Do you agree, if not who would be your alternatives?

No one will ever beat Robbie Fowler as our biggest name signing

I read on the other board that it was Bellamy first time around as at that point he could have walked in any side in the WORLD :laughing5:

I reckon Bellamy is a good shout. But in terms of global name it probably has to be Robbie Fowler, although he did in fact turn out to be one of the worst.

Fowler was not that big a name his best days were behind him but the move was marketed to look like he was the greatest
striker since sliced bread. many of us were shaking our heads cos we knew full well he'd shot his bolt Bellamy was a far bigger coup as the season before he had torn the premiership a new arse

Bellamy was our biggest name signing. People like Fowler JFH and John Charles were way past there prime when they came to us . Bellamy had just been voted man city's player of the season!

John Charles surely?

He was way past it when he came to us though. If your just talking about the most known player to have played for cardiff then yes he would be head a shoulders above anyone else :ayatollah:

Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu (Dave) was quite a big name signing too ;) :ayatollah:

I would say Bellamy purely because after ripping up the Premier League the season before he stepped down a level and helped out his home town club. That's in my lifetime anyway.

Obviously his best days were behind him, no one expected him to be amazing for us, but it doesn't take away the fact he was one of our biggest name signings, considering he was one of the best players in the world at one point

Robbie Fowler was never one of the best in the world.

The OP asked for the "biggest name" unless you know nothing about football that name is John Charles by an absolute country mile and cant understand why there is even a debate.

Comparing fowler to Charles is like comparing Gavin Rae to Zinedine Zidane.

Consider the fact he played for Cardiff 30 years before I was born
