Falling out with other fans over the rebrand

Fri Jun 07, 2013 6:31 pm

Just read this on Bluebirds Unite and then on other mb.

Just read that Sian Branson (Founder of Bluebirds Unite) has fallen out with her butcher who refused to sign her petition. He said '60 years I've been watching them and I don't care if they play in pyjamas as long as we are in the premiership (i.e. Premier League)'.

But how far would you let Tan go in order for us to be successful on the pitch?
How much of your already limited power would you let him take?

Sian Branson
Think I’ve just fallen out with my butcher - Which is a shame as I love their pies lol
Convo goes like this:
Butcher- ‘Your petition is a stupid idea!’
Me- ‘Well 6,000 people in a week – don’t agree with you!’
Butcher – ‘ 60 years Ive been watching them and I don’t care if we play in Pyjamas as long as we’re in the premiership.’
Me- ‘ Being 30YOA makes it a little difficult to compete with your time as a city fan, but I love the club and believe our pride and identity should remain in place’
Butcher -’ But he he was right and it has taken us to the premiership.’
Me – ‘So you think that a change of kit and Badge got us promoted?’
Butcher- ‘ He invested 10 million!’
Me- ‘ Good for him, but what about the other 90 million he promised you and the clearing of debt with Langston?’
Butcher- ‘ Yes but what will you say when he does do all that?’
Me – ‘If and when he does, id say thank you very much, now back to our identity lol ‘
Butcher- ‘Ahhhhhh- Ridiculous, no need.’
Me – ‘ There is every need, to fight for our history, pride, culture and identity. This is the Capital City of Wales’ football club, would you sell Cardiff Castle to the highest bidder?’
He then sloped off out the back probably muttering what annoying lady I am

On the plus side the Taxi driver I met today – thinks BU is a great idea and will be telling all his city mates to be there Tuesday…. — at St Fagans

For myself and lots of others he has gone too far already.
For Wimbledon fans, moving venue was the last straw and Pompey fans just had to watch as their club fell to pieces before their eyes. But now they are starting to exert their control. It may sound contradictory to say that it's not really the colour that is important - but at the end of the day it isn't. It is about who decides which colour we play in. It's about us being allowed to make some decisions that affect the club. And the majority want blue. I know that the scope for supporters to make decisions is fairly limited under private (rather than collective) ownership - but tearing apart our traditions is unacceptable to many. Obviously Tan is learning how we feel about this because he allowed fans to vote for black shorts. Though the cynical among us may take the view that this was all a put up job - just so Tan could demonstrate his democratic learnings (if not leanings). I am sure you must have heard all this before - so sorry for that.

Steve Tucker is telling us that Tan is selling the club as the Malaysian Premiere League team would you be happy with being a Malaysian surrogate? Tan had his fingers burned a little with the rebrand so I am not sure what else he would risk in future. But I worry about finances as well as identity. My son in law is a Pompey fan and I attended our cup final with him. How fast things have changed. Can't believe that we are in the Premier League while they are in League Two. But where will we be in five years' time? Who knows.
We certainly don't have much control over that whereas Pompey fans are increasing their control. Is that the best way for the future?

Sorry to have to disagree with the butcher but I have been supporting the club for about 50 years and I would not mind the pyjamas so much as long as they were blue!!

This is as far as he could go with me. A possible name change, removal of the bluebird/blue kit completely and I'd change stance

If I could turn the clock back and the decision was mine only I would have told Tan to stuff his rebrand.

We all have the very same conversation with people seems many people are just interested in glory and sucsess and will sacrifise important meaninfull segments of Cardiff City to get it.To me the prem is good but its not everything and if you ask other fans of other clubs if they would sacrifise what we have to get where we are now most would say no.

All I can say is keep up your good work I respect you for doing what you do someone has to stand up to Tan .The way things are going we may get the identity back after all ccfc is blue end of.To me the colours are about belonging and I used to belong ata the club this red crap just doesnt belong here.

Keep up the good work.what are you doing with the petition are you going to present it to Tan so he is aware of the feeling amongst us fans ?

More fans dont mind the rebrand. The minority of those who do may have grown but still is insignificant as it stands and a long way off from an amount that Tan will take serious.

Not sure how you would know the figure of 2k mate but I think I made a point elsewhere that petitions are not worth a light, as anyone can sign (City supporter or not) which gives them little credibility :(

I'm not against the 'meeting' though; even though I don't believe it will change anything but you simply have to admire those that 'believe' enough to try even against the odds ;)

Good luck to those that attend for the right reasons ;) :notworthy: :ayatollah:

No, mate, they are not insignificant. In fact, they are far from it...

The majority may well (even reluctantly) accept the red for now but the 'pro-blue only' group (as limited in numbers as they are) can cause a fair few problems and discomfort if they go about it in the right (or wrong depending on your view) way...

My personal view is that the situation won't change whilst Tan is here and that continued opposition to the red is (a) at least 12 months late, and (b) for that reason is pretty futile...

However, there are some strong characters out there who have different views and they are not about to let go; regardless of what the rest of us say...

I might not always agree with their 'justifications' but I certainly respect their right to have a view and know that they will make themselves heard regardless of the outcome on the colour issue ;) :ayatollah:

Quote (on a lighter note): "There is every need, to fight for our history, pride, culture and identity. This is the Capital City of Wales’ football club, would you sell Cardiff Castle to the highest bidder?"

The English 'sold' London Bridge to the Americans and it still sits in the Arizona Desert. Trouble was that when it arrived they had a bit of a shock, as it wasn't the bridge they though it was; they actually wanted Tower Bridge!

Typically, the English (being naturally crooked  ) said "Sold as seen, Guv'nor" and sent the Americans on their merry way with an inferior bridge that looked like any other bridge and couldn't 'get it up' when needed

Perhaps we could sell then (the Americans) something equally as worthless, such as the The Liberty Stadium; lock, stock and barrel   :ayatollah:

Than again, perhaps it's late and I should go to bed! Night all   :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

To Tan they are and hes the one that matters. 25% remember? Well they're nowhere near it. Reality check is in order. Some people really lack business understanding. Tan won't even give a shit about BU.

The majority may well (even reluctantly) accept the red for now but the 'pro-blue only' group (as limited in numbers as they are) can cause a fair few problems and discomfort if they go about it in the right (or wrong depending on your view) way...

Yes that is true but they'll only do more harm than good. If they just saw the situation for what it was and took a mature approach then it'd be better. Some should be careful for what they wish for as Wolves fans, as already said before, dont look too happy now.

My personal view is that the situation won't change whilst Tan is here and that continued opposition to the red is (a) at least 12 months late, and (b) for that reason is pretty futile...

Which is why there is no point banging on about it. The situation wont change under Tan. That is 100% spot on. He's said it. People with the intellectual capacity to comprehend what he said know it and take it on board. People banging on about it are just (1) tormenting themselves and (2) chasing something that wont happen. Tan dont give a crap really. He is keeping the club going and he has the only say that matters.

However, there are some strong characters out there who have different views and they are not about to let go; regardless of what the rest of us say...

I might not always agree with their 'justifications' but I certainly respect their right to have a view and know that they will make themselves heard regardless of the outcome on the colour issue ;) :ayatollah:

Its not about letting go but seeing the situation for what it is. Its getting tiresome now. I know it, you know it and everyone else knows it - WHILST TAN IS HERE WE WILL BE RED. If the anti rebrand lot want to go back to blue then force Tan out but dont just sit in the corner crying and annoying the shit out of people reluctantly accepting what is unfolding.

If an anti rebrand supporter came out and said 'sod the consequences, sod Tan, we want blue back and dont care if he leaves' then Id respect them far more than this current piss in the wind attempt. It just reminds me of Audley Harrison mate. He might step into the ring but whats the point? May as well not bother. Its all a show imo and im not saying this to be disrespectful but thats how it portrays/comes across.

Either go for the killer blow and win your fight against Tan or just put up and shut up. The killer blow would be to force Tan out. Simple as that really as only by forcing him out will you ever get blue back. I think thats well known.

EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN OPINION TO DO/THINK WHAT THEY WISH.

Who said any different? There are 2 options. Pick one and stick with it. Bluebirds Unite would get far more respect for me if they just came out and had the balls to say 'we want Tan out and our colours back'.

1) Tan out - go back to blue - take the chances on our future and hope for the best with fans or a new owner leading the way

2) Tan stays - reluctantly put up with the rebrand and accept the financial perks that come with it whilst hoping we continue to do well

Tan staying and us returning to blue is not a viable option and you know it. Tan said it himself at the speech. We'll always be red at home. Red is lucky. He doesn't give a shit what us customers think. His beliefs are more important than the beliefs of his customers. You think hes gonna reason with you? He puts a colour and a mythical creature before us lot FFS and you think this is a guy that can be reasoned with? I despair.

HOW MANY ******* TIMES DO PEOPLE NEED TO BE TOLD?

Re: Falling out with other fans over the rebrand

Sat Jun 08, 2013 12:22 am

Who do you think you are telling people what to think/do?

If you don't agree with that particular group, fine. SUGGEST ideas, offer constructive criticism, maybe.

The way you are talking to people on here, telling them what they should think/believe etc, is bloody nonsense.

Never fallen out with anyone over it.

So this person has fallen out with her butcher because he won't do what she says and has an opinion.
If people want to sign it they will without pressure.
