BT Sport Undercutting Sky Sports

Tue May 28, 2013 9:44 pm

Just got off the phone with BT Sports after being tipped off that they are doing cheaper deals than sky sports. After years of struggling to pay for Sky at The Pub, BT have come along and under cut them by £500 a month. I'm astonished, 39 Premier League games, 19 of which are Hot Pick games. FA Cup Games, Europa League, UFC Events, AVIVA Rugby Premiership, SPL & Every Rangers SFL game.

For years Sky Sports have been killing off the local pub, but BT are looking to revive it thank god. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

For years Sky have been going on what your business should be earning and taking what they feel is thier cut. We had to turn it off, which made us lose a load of customers. The other pub in the village also did the same but had a flat above it which had sky, so they just did it that way... Something we couldn't do. Already got our customers who went there instead, coming back ready for the new season. Massive savings, which will mean cheaper beer for the regulars which will go down a storm with everyone :ayatollah: . They also give broadband free to businesses who get the BT Package :ayatollah:

My Sky business account is charged on the rateable value of our property. It must be different elsewhere then?

Croeserw Sports & Social.. Formally a Workingmens Club, but have had to change with themes as WMC are dead in the water.

For anyone with BT Broadband, you will need to ring BT this summer to get this Sports Package for Free. BT really are going out with all guns blazing and I'm loving it :ayatollah:

For far too long sky have bullied people and businesses into paying higher and higher prices for sky. Breaking point has been reached, they will feel the pinch big time.

nothing wrong with some good competition :D

sky have cornered the market, and are too powerful. BT have the resources to take on sky, and keep throwing money at it, they wont do a setanta for example.

SKY have done great things for UK TV, but as others have said, the customers have been charged huge amounts! :ayatollah:

Sky have the next one down. Each gets 18 top picks I believe. All it means is BT gets to go first. I saw it on Reddit a whilst back. Im just going with BT as I like Bundesliga loads. Any other game I want to watch I'll stream a HD version from NBC no problem. Sky will still have quality games as well.

Here's a comparison. BT go first on match selection. They bought the best package. Saw it on Reddit couple of weeks back when there was an announcement about NBC having the rights to all the games in the USA.

What about timings though because that makes a massive difference. Who has got the Sunday games and who has got the Saturday tea time games?

It'll be a mixture and Sky will most likely keep their Monday night schedule. :malky:

Sky will always have sunday afternoon matches. The games are moved to sundays for SKY.

I thought BT were just taking over ESPN's football package

No. BT bought the best package. The games are moved by the channel when appropriate. Sky will move some games, BT will move some games. ESPN did not have the best package and did not have a selection of 'top picks' hence why you always got stuff like Liverpool vs Fulham on there or what not.

I need to check how much the broadband for BT is going to be or would it be cheaper to go with TalkTalk and fit in a few more Cardiff City games. I bet BT have whacked the prices up now on the back of this.

Ive just read that Claire Balding is hosting a Sport talkshow on BT everyweek and football is being presented by Jake Humphrey.

2 of the most irritating people on TV. I wont be getting it now.

I've hated Clare Balding ever since she ruined swimming with her "know-it-all" attitude during the Olympics. Actually, no, I hated her long before that.

I know Jake Humphrey doesn't have a good rep in the BBC. The BBC have the attitude that they will look after their own and in return they want commitment. He fucked off the first second a better deal came along breaking the unwritten rule at the BBC.

I will be keeping SKY Sports because I just like their coverage. The Hot Pick games are often the most dull games so that doesn't really bother me. Plus, I'm going to be keen to watch Football First when Cardiff play for games I cannot make.

Be careful if you got a.pub you can't show sky sport. Through bt ,you will get fined only through sky sports business you can get sky sports legally ,they are only taking over ESPN matches

Apart from the 2 games vs the JB's I can't see us being one of the 'hot picks'

That said I'm wondering whether it is worth keeping Sky Sports via the set top box but switching my broadband and telephone line to BT just to get their free Premiership matches?

I had a pub for 10 years, (i sold it 14 years ago) and when sky first came out they tried to charge me based on the amount of people my pub could hold, i had many arguments with them stating that did they really think i would get 180 people in my pub every time there was a game on??? they were robing whores, i had living accomodation above the pub so i took out a domestic package and wired it into the pub  you're right, i do believe they now charge businesses on rateable value of the premises and good on bt it's about time they had some competition.

BT have got Saturday 12:45 games. Sky have got Sunday 4pm games still so I think that is why they have to undercut because it is a less popular time.

I also can't see that all the good games will be at 12:45 on Saturday. My guess is that BT will end up having to pick lesser games with their 19 first picks because of European schedules etc.

Still think most of the really big games will be 4pm on Sunday and on Sky
