The Welsh FA should be ashamed of themselves

Wed May 15, 2013 8:58 am

Stuart Lovering has finally killed off the club he bought in December 2003

THE Barry Town Supporters' Committee and much of Welsh football has been stunned by the news that the Macwhirter Welsh League has accepted owner Stuart Lovering's request to withdraw.

As a result, Barry's record will be expunged with only two fixtures, home and away to Ton Pentre, to be completed.

"The BTSC is hugely saddened to see the record of Barry Town AFC expunged from the Welsh League after accepting Stuart Lovering's withdrawal," says a statement.

"We, like everyone else, are awaiting information from the Welsh League Management Committee on the exact details of what informed their decision.

"Once this information is received, the BTSC will take time to process its content before deciding upon its next steps.

"We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the messages of support that we have received from across Wales, the UK and all over the world.

"This support is hugely humbling and very much appreciated."

Lovering, who installed himself as secretary earlier this season in place of David Cole, withdrew the club from the Macwhirter Welsh League's Division One just four days before the end of the season.

This resulted in the late postponement of the fixtures against Ton Pentre.

Barry dominated Welsh football for many years and were champions of the Welsh Premier League seven times between 1996 and 2003.

But, after winning the treble in 2002/3, financial problems surface and, with debts of £900,000 after the brief reign of John Fashanu at the club, the Dragons were relegated in 2004.

The first season back in the Welsh League brought more troubles, with a cut in the playing budget mid-way through the season resulting in the departure of manager David Hughes and more players.

A dispute with the Council over a rent review also forced them out of their Jenner Park home after 92 years, playing home games at White Tips Stadium, the home of Treforest FC.

However, in recent seasons the club's fortunes have revived and, with the BTSC funding and running the club, they reached the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup only a few weeks ago

OK so the request to withdraw Barry Town has been accepted by officials of the Welsh League.

So again why should the Welsh FA be ashamed of themselves?

The Welsh FA know that the supporters club has been running the club so surely their consideration should be taken onboard. All they have done is agree to effectively close down a football club in Barry.

The reason I take an interest in Barry Town is because I live in the Vale and its the only football club within the county borough.

Because his other claimed clubs, i.e, Merthyr, Cardiff and Everton have disowned him, so he working his way around all of them until he finds a home. :old:

You've just answered my question for me , as its all over the local newspaper so the failed politician is jumping on the Barry Town story for a bit of free publicity , my work here is done :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Some of these replies are ridiculous!

Surely as football fans we should have some sympathy?

I'm sure the FAW could have stepped in and helped to find a remedy.
Hopefully the supporters committee will be allowed to carry on running the team in the league next season. (Without Lovering!)

The Welsh FA have done no such thing and if you read the article again you will see it's the Welsh League that have accepted the wishes of Barry Town to withdraw from thier league.

The question is here do you have any idea of the relationship between the Welsh League and The Football Association Of Wales. If you did you would know that the Welsh FA have had absolutely nothing to do with the decision and as such having nothing to be ashamed about.

Except on planet Angry Man that is.

Owain the supporters should start with appealing the decision of the Welsh League to the appropiate body and that is the Football Association Of Wales.

The FAW has no right, as you say, to step in and tell the Welsh League how to conduct it affairs, but it has an absolute right to sit in judgement of any decision made by an affiliated league. In this case that's exactly what the Welsh League is.

Good post, sad to see the plight of the club.

Prime example of the original poster not understanding what he is reading and immediately blaming an organisation which hasn't as yet had a chance to consider the facts.

The supporters have an avenue of appeal here give them a chance to exercise those rights before blaming the Welsh FA.

I have to agree with Ibiza's finest here. It seems the FAW have just thought 'sod it, its not our problem to deal with' and let it happen. Rather than face the mess they're just letting it go. What a shame.

That's fine, but some of the posts here are totally ridiculous. Just personal insults to make themselves look big. Pathetic.

I don't include your posts by the way.
