I believe Southampton spent more money and Reading spent a lot less. I wonder if additional funds will be available for Malky to spend if needed. It's going to be an interesting summer for us for sure.

I've read Southampton spent £24m and Reading £5m
£25m maybe enough borderline I would say, we only have to find three teams worse than us, two will be coming up are worse and are unlikely to spend more, and there are still a few shit teams left, maybe just maybe we can do it ????

I think some spend too much in their first season. I beleive it's more important to protect your team firstly and add to that. If you go out and get too many players at once then you destroy your winning team and replace them with a bunch of individuals.

Chris Coleman says "£25m is a lot of money in any terms. But in the Premier League, in terms of what players costs, three or four English players could cost you that. It's very expensive to sign British players. The market abroad is a cheaper one."

Buy um i from China or Eastern Europe. They'll do the little jobs on the pitch our people won't do. They'll play for a fraction of the money plus they'll work through half-time. You'll have to pay them cash in hand and after a few weeks their legs might fall off though.

We spent around £10m last summer and that was mega investment for the Championship.
IMO £25m well spent would be enough especially in a depressed market. I can't see many other teams below the top 5 or 6 clubs investing more than that in player purchases, so spent wisely we should be safe as we already have a good basis of a squad and might even prove to be the big surprise in next years PL.

I think additional funds will be made available to Malky if needed. If we look at this season most of the money spent went on players who got injured, didn't play or were not playing for the bulk of the season. E.g. Campbell was brought in when needed and I think a contingency will be built-in.

25 million is what we need.
We need to scout players that will work hard and fit into our system.
We don't want to do a 'QPR'.

25 Mill isn't enough

Spot on there. Build on what we have. Hardworking, battling team. Add a centre forward (who can hold the ball up) and a couple of quick fullbacks and we should be ok.

As long as 25m is set aside just for transfer fees i think Malky could work wonders with it
The biggest problem we have is his lunatic boss. After what happened to Nigel Adkins, who knows what's around the corner for Malky if he gets off to a poor start?

i didnt see west brom or norwich spending 25mil last season?
its not about how much you spend, its how you spend best! we have a good back bone to our squad... just need to add a little to it...
i think roughly 6 players is enough.. thats an average of just over £4mil a player... a very decent budget...

This all the way.....
Wed Apr 24, 2013 3:24 pm
Yes. My problem with it being public though, is that we are going to be paying top dollar now.
If we go in for a a player, they know how much we've got to spend and could up their prices. Very strange that VT would do that.

Southampton spent £38m, Reading spent £9m, QPR spent £62m over their two seasons.
All depends on how it is spent, Tans promised us 12 Michu's so we will be fine.

My only worry is that we spent £10m net this season and Malky spent £5m on Maynard, Velikonja and Kiss. So maybe we should hope that £12.5m will be enough.

Velikonja 1.8m and kiss 500k

Don't forget that the PL money increases hugely next season so £25m will have a much smaller impact than it would previously have had.

Sureley a shrewd businessman like Tan would alert everyone he's got 85 Million to spend?
Wed Apr 24, 2013 4:46 pm
I'd say we need to spend 30m to be honest.
Wed Apr 24, 2013 4:53 pm
A couple of statements from both the manager and owner re-assure me that £25 million will be enough to strengthen in the areas that he needs. Malky, made it known over two months back, to a select group of supporters that he had already identified and drawn up the list of players needed in the Premiership, which I assume has already been looked into with respective agents. VT, over the last week has mentioned the £25 million figure with confidence and also that there will be no big name stars. I think it's safe to say, that given that evidence the majority of our targets are already in the bag and will be brought in on budget.
Wed Apr 24, 2013 7:56 pm
I do not believe we will be going for high profile bertie big bollocks type of players as per redknapp and mark hughes etc.not to say we won't have a 'trophy' signing.
When VT spoke about 12 michus he obviously meant 12 value for money under the radar players who could fit into the team/system and Malky's way.
I'm not going to get hung up on numbers as in a way it's a meaningless measure.
I even expect one or two buys from the Championship who Malky thinks can step up.
Wed Apr 24, 2013 8:49 pm
Lewandowski cost Dortmund £3 mill.....so Malky could put a team together that could easily stay up.
Moyes does it all the time.
Wed Apr 24, 2013 9:07 pm
I reckon it will, some people underestimate our squads ability, no we didn't play bright stuff this season but I think we can evolve a bit like Norwich, players will be more determined to fight for their places now we're in the Prem. Malky will once again sign hard working players
Wed Apr 24, 2013 9:33 pm
I would stick to no big money for players in contract.
Let's go for a few out of contract or from abroad.
To be honest Im sure Malky knows already who he wants........and the players agent is aware of it too.
