I'd like to see Whitts in Mutch's position on Tuesday. He's fresh now with something to prove.

But you can't just swap out a player who's doing well

No chance, Whitts and Mutch are 2 very different players.

Cant imagine whitts driving through the middle carrying the ball! Mutch is the driving force in our midfield.

Agree. Whitts for Mutch. Also Noone in for Smith. Lets attack Charlton and get the job done in style. :malky:

Mutch is a lot faster than Whitts and tackles well also he passes very well. Kimbo has unbelievable close control and passing abilities.

I wouldn't want Whitts playing instead of either of them really.

Agreed, as good as Smith has been, he hasn't been on form. Malky should give Bellers and Nooney total freedom to run at the full backs on Tuesday :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Personally we won't need to improve our midfield much if promoted, I feel Whittingham won't adapt to a new league, it'd be good to sell him to one of the relegated sides

Are some people that crazy on here? Why would you want to start Whittingham Tuesday night instead of Mutch? Mutch has grabbed his chance and played awesome there`s no reason for Whittingham to just jump back into the first team and that`s a big plus for this season. The players on the bench are as eager as ever to impress and to play without our "Talisman" Whittingham says it all for the squad we have got this year. :ayatollah:

A few weeks ago Mutch was classed by quite a few on here as one of Malky's mistakes. Players come in and out of form, it happens.
The hustle and bustle of the championship suits players like gunnar we wait to see if he can make the change up. Kimbo, Mutch and Whitts will thrive in the premier league although we must acquire a genuine holding midfield player.

We have trained a thoroughbred to plough fields and suddenly expect him to be ready for the races. Whitts in his "new" position sets the pace of the team and if he is personally knackered and jaded it reflects in the team. Malky was a few weeks behind the curve in all honesty.

The beauty in the new midfield is no team has really had time to analyse us to death and set a counter system, where and when Whitts play must really be confusing for the Charlton management.......

Ever since last season when I watched West ham 3-3 Birmingham I knew Mutch was something special. He's such a skillful, fast, powerful midfielder. And now he's showing everyone what he can do. :ayatollah:

Re: without whitts

Whitts is more than capable of playing in either Kim or Mutch's role, you could see glimpses of it against Barnsley, the guy has sheer class and in one of these more attacking roles you would see him much more effective BUT I wouldn't change anything right now there's really no need unless Malky wants to freshen it up, either way I'd leave Gunnars playing the sitting role and then your spoilt for choice with Mutch, Kim and whitts. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Lets all remember the plaudits from all corner about whitts owning and dictating games. Whitts has adapted his game to suit our and his needs and up to christmas was brilliant. Exactly the same this year as last year he(we) ran out of steam in the second half of the season.

This season Malky reluctantly pressed the button and rested him and its paid off. "Post It" for Malkys season planner next season "Do not get 20 games into Whitts before Christamas"

Just lets not forget how we got in this position - Sept ~ Jan

Mutch has had injury/fitness problems all season thats why he was poor early on ..like a new signing at present....as is kimbo ...malky just brought them in a little bit late imo ..but we are there now im sure .....

As sad as I am to say it, Whittingham is going to have very few starts in the Premiership. Kimbo has taken the Whittingham role to another level. There is no way he can play instead of Mutch or Gunnarson because they are totally different players.
With new signings in the close season, I'm afraid his opportunities will be very limited next season. A shame, but true.

If Malky had given Whitts the same licence hes given Mutch Whitts would have scored 20+ goals this season.

Agreed playing him five yards infront of the back four didnt help his form at all.

Whitts hasn't got the pace to get up and down the pitch like Mutch does plus Whitts tackles like a pussy and shits out of most challenges.
The midfield 3 as it is know is the perfect blend. :ayatollah:

Re: without whitts

Sun Apr 14, 2013 5:56 pm

Its about trust to me.

Malky wants to play like his mate Brendan and have a deeper ball playing midfield player to switch attacks and dictate the pace of the game. When you look at the attributes required Whitts ticks all the boxes, his passing range, football intelligence ect.
There are no players in the club who could perform that role very few in the reaches of championship clubs so he converted Whitts into that role. IMO the only chink in Whitts armoury is mental toughness, I believe the responsibility of the play-maker bears down on him and wears him down.

Give him a free role tossing around up front and he will get 20 plus as demonstrated in previous seasons.

Re: without whitts

If he gets 20 plus goals next year he'll be going to Rio with the England squad. Can't see either happening. Still a very good player and will play a major part next year. :D

He will be lucky to get 20 games let alone 20 goals next season :ayatollah:
