I dont think we are, yes loads turn up out of the woodwork for big games but so does every team in the country. When you need our fans to come out in force they always seem to let us down, take Barnsley on Tuesday 22000 for a very important game, how many would we have if we were guaranteed promotion on Tuesday?? Tickets woul be like gold dust
Mon Apr 08, 2013 6:52 am
You never know, its only Monday......more than 24 hrs for peeps to buy tickets yet.

Cant go due to work but have passed my season ticket on.
Regarding the crowd for Tuesday., that is the South Wales Sporting Public for you.
People see it as a nothing game and we cant win promotion so they wont bother.
Expect the same next season or empty seats galore for games against fellow promoted sides and the likes of Norwich, Wigan etc.
Its just one of the crosses we have to bear with bigger crowds and success, I was speaking with a fella in work
who never had an interest in Cardiff before but got a season ticket next year, we were talking about whats happened to Coventry, Portsmouth etc and he said, 'Hope that don't happen to Cardiff, but as long as we have a year in the Premiership at least we can say we been there'. That sums it up realy, he's the type that will be there for Forest if we can clinch it but wont on Tuesday and will be there will bells on for a game against Man Utd, but Wigan on a Monday Night on Sky, you wont see him for dust.
Are we big club, no in short, we are a decent middle sized club along with the likes of Reading, Fulham, Stoke teams like that, the potential is there but we will never sustain it to to the fickleness of the support.
That's just my take on it anyway.

I think we are far from a big team. People really bought into the sleeping giant tag. But we are just typically welsh, thinking the world hates us and owes us everything, that everyone talks about our rebrand, and even knows about the rebrand. When really nobody cares who we are, what we are doing etc etc. Reality is swansea is the bigger more well known club not just in the uk but the world right now.

I should have added that I offered my seat for free to about 10 different people before a fella in my street took it, nobody
wanted to know.

Notts Forest saturday is a better idea

I've been watching the City for over 40 years and this is the best average for crowds in all those years, even when we just lost out the year we sold Tosh I think our average was only just over 20k. (maybe someone will know).
Yes we've had big crowds for the odd game or two but not 23k on a regular basis.

It's building all the time, nice and steadily, when you think how many new regulars we now have to ten years ago, it's almost doubled.
Mind you many of these are called plastics by some on here, mad, without these new regulars and hopefully more to follow we'd get nowhere.
It isn't about who been coming the longest, or who goes to the most games, all those with a love of our club should be made welcome, we are all different, jobs, family's, income, distance, etc etc, doesn't mean it matters less to them.

good post, fully agree

We need to expand the ground and drop the ticket prices to fill the stadium. Money is why a lot of stadiums are empty.
Cheap ticket prices are the way forward to bring in the newer generation and take them away from rugby as well. All sports in Wales are now competing against each other for revenue

If we are able to maintain premier league status for a few seasons I think we would attract crowds of about 30k for a season or two (if we had the capacity) and then after the novelty has wore off we'd get a steady regular following of 26-27k week in week out.

One word.........................................................................rebrand

I don't see how anyone could think we are. Definition of 'Big' is important.
Rich history of success? No. If we wernt Welsh winning the FA Cup 83 years ago would be of no consequence no top flight football for 50+ years. Derby, Forest, Leeds all have far greater history than us.
What we are is probably the biggest. Non-big club. Especially in recent years. 4 Wembley visits. New Stadium, massive potential fan base, consists top 7 finished in the Championship for 5 years.
There are good ingredients there. Getting promoted, first or second. Will be the only real measurable success for quite some time. Take away that were a Welsh Club, so we look any better than Wigan? Or Blackburn a few years ago? Not really.

Agree with that Gwyn

Not a big club, but i think we could be a pretty decent size club, who if did stay in the Prem. Could get 30k+ a week. Not sure if we can reach the heights of 45k~60k.
We dont have the Stadium, but we would need some impressive results and have few players of top quality.

wigan and blackburn are small clubs that have been run well though, or in blackburns case, they bought success.
we are a bigger club than both, and ill throw QPR, Reading, Swansea and Stoke into the equation as well.
We dont have an empty stadium, we are averaging around the 23k mark, which is excellent.
the potential for this club is huge, we could potentially be massive, but it will take a while. Look at where we were 10 seasons ago and compare it with now.

They are not bigger than Cardiff City but are more well known due to the exposure of two seasons in the Premier League. Now if we could only get there one day......hmmmmm.

I use to think so, not anymore though. Think the 20 odd year in the bottom two divisions killed it.
Mon Apr 08, 2013 3:05 pm
No, we only have the potential. Say we get promoted and we have a few years in the Prem, maybe we could, we only have Swansea to compete with in our catchment areas
Mon Apr 08, 2013 3:22 pm
Average sized club with the potential to be a lot bigger.
Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:19 pm
we are the biggest club in the wales and the west country.but football isnt that big in wales hence only two league clubs.

Spot on

The potential to be a bigger club is certainly there, unfortunately we still have a hardcore of about 18-20 k home supporters. Many ST holders don't do all the games!

Give us 8 points and we'll be up there with the best!
Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:49 pm
Let's see how big some of those clubs would be after the best part of 20 years in the bottom two divisions

Agree with that Gwyn

me too
Give VT a few seasons, and we'll see if we're a big club
Mon Apr 08, 2013 6:16 pm
Forest fan in peace, you're not the only ones that get this! We had a sell out crowd for the important Brighton game, but back to just under 23,000 for Blackpool, despite being unbeaten in 9 prior to kick off. And we are supposedly one of the 'bigger' sides. Although I don't buy into that theory.
Looking forward to visiting this weekend, we will bring a strong following, be a tough ask to keep our run going though. Best of luck for next season.
Mon Apr 08, 2013 7:06 pm
City can be massive... but we need time in the premier and not to yo yo. then the glory hunters will show an interest in their own club that is on their doorstep.
When that happens and they pass it on to their kids, we could in years to come get 50k or more, but it will take a good few years of decent football at the top level

It is a Tuesday night and people work away or money is tight, and yes we are not as big as we think we are
Mon Apr 08, 2013 8:20 pm
We have increased our average attendance between 5~7k has we have moved up through the divisions.
Personally I wouldn't extend our Stadium capacity anymore than 35K.
