This really is an awful league

Sat Mar 30, 2013 5:10 pm

We are currently being the beneficiaries of the relegated Prem teams being in turmoil and the quality of this league takingna nose dive. I can't believe our luck. We have played well a handful of times this year and are top by 7 points! Our closest rivals are the likes of Hull, Watford and Crystal Palace

In honesty we have probably got enough points now to go up. But we are going to pretty much need a whole new team to compete next year.

Spot on the standard this year is really bad, just posted on another thread, that tan thinks we only need 3 signings next season,if we go up,how wrong is he?,if we don't strengthen big, then we are in for a very bad year, that's if we actually go up

if he thinks that then we will break the record for lowest points in the prem

This is the worst championship in a long long long time. Look at the state of Blackburn and Wolves. These two should be competing at the top end of the table. The promoted sides haven't done much either. We have to go up no excuses!

He said it on that sport wales interview, summing it up perfectly with him admitting,he doesn't even know the rules if the game

The standard of the premiership is also poor. Its just british football as a whole at the moment

The standard of the Premier League is just as excellent as ever. Teams like Man City can't even get a sniff and they are full of the likes of Aguero, Tevez, Yaya, Silva etc etc

Something tells me you are not a Cardiff fan. Probably Roath Tragic with yet another account.

If the premier league is so good this year then why is Man United the only team who look like winning the title? You talk nonsense.

So how have Man .city got worse when their team is the same? The premier league has lost no stars of any note but gained the likes of Hazard, Carzola, Michu, podolski, benteke, sahin, etc etc

I con only think of Balotelli leaving the Prem of any note.

the league this year has been the strongest ever

I agree with the young man born in 46. I've been here from the beginning and don't expect many more seasons so this is a welcome promotion if we can get it, for me at least.

However it is terribly weak.

And people wonder whats wrong with British football...It can never progress when "fans" are as educated as you.

Yet you can't give any reason to your theory that the quality of the premier has diminished when the only star of any note to leave is Balotelli yet the stars added are countless.

That in a nutshell tells you that you are wrong.

English football is in the doldrums generally. This is apparent from the fact that we are in the QF of the Champions League and there isn't any British interest.
The best leagues are now in Germany and Spain. All good for us mind when we get promoted.

Germany has risen again, another war awaits us.

Good idea. Unless you are actually trying to claim that Chelsea are one of the great European power houses at the moment... :laughing6:

Re: This really is an awful league

It was more of a point to show that judging this years champions league to gauge how strong the premier league is, is pointless. The champions league is essentially a knockout competition. man united got robbed of progressing against the la liga champions elect due to an inept referee so basing it on one year seems a little strange.

However if you look at European representation over the past decade it will show you that the English league is the strongest if you are viewing it on European performance alone.

As stated, it is a much stronger league this year than last as the amount of stars brought into the league has increased without getting rid of many of note. Yet last season saw the greatest league battle ever and had a European champions league winner from it.

Strength of a league isn't just about the top teams - it's about strength throughout the division. Teams at the bottom have got worse in quality over the last few years..

The teams at the bottom are utter dross this season & are getting worse.

Completely agree. However if there was a super league of all the combined divisions then england would have the higher average finish, of that I'm certain.

We have teams like Everton and Liverpool fighting for 7th place, then some good teams wih the likes of the jacks then comes some of the dross. Although these "dross teams" contain squads worth millions, southampton for example spent £32 million and have the likes of gaston ramires and could still easily go down.

In the other top leagues there is a top 2 then 2 or 3 teams then dross, and actual dross. La liga is in turmoil, hence the likes of Michu going to a mid range Prem team for £2m.

Man U on course for a record points tally despite being average by their standards for much of the season. It's a poor Prem no doubt.

Odd thread though, with Roath posting under multiple usernames. How sad

How do you measure it anyway? Europe is one benchmark. So the prem is weaker, yes?

How about the players in it?

Last year saw an English team become European champions. Since then a host of world class talent has entered the league. Pretty simple really.

No not at all.I think the league has stood still and leagues like the Bundesliga got stronger. You now have the likes of PSG and Malaga with hideous amounts of money to throw at it also so we've been caught up with. This season was the first time in donkeys years that we havent had an English team in the semis of the CL.The Europa league is different though.Do you honestly think that next season will be the same again for English clubs in the CL? I bet you the likes of City United and Chelsea will spend big and will be back knocking on the door again.Call it a blip if you like.

So next year will be stronger, I can buy that. Still means the Prem is weaker this year. Chelsea and arsenal have been poor by their standards, wouldn't you agree? Man City haven't fired. To me it's a poorer league but its relative to other seasons and doesn't mean it's still not a tough league to win games in.
