Joe Ledley to return?

Mon Mar 18, 2013 10:55 pm

Probably a load of Bollocks. from the Daily Mirror.

The green, green grass of home: Cardiff want Celtic's Joe Ledley back.. if they go up.

Cardiff want to bring Joe Ledley ‘home’ from Celtic - if they clinch promotion to the Premier League.

Boss Malky Mackay is hot on the trail of the versatile Welsh international who quit the club for the Glasgow giants three seasons ago.
And Ledley could be persuaded to come back to his first love, where he was part of the side that went agonisingly close to reaching the rop flight in his time under then-boss Dave Jones.
Ledley is still under contract at Celtic but a fee of around £3million may tempt Neil Lennon’s club to sell - and Cardiff’s owners will have funds to make that happen and match his wages.

Cardiff have pushed the boat out for big-name signings, such as Craig Bellamy, in the past and would try hard for former hero and Wales international Ledley.
The Bluebirds are seven points clear at the top of the Championship - nine points clear of the team in third - and also have a game in hand over all the division's promotion candidates.
Mackay will be given a healthy fighting fund to make an impact in the top flight, assuming Cardiff get there, and work has already been done to check out potential signings.

Please no! Ledley wouldn't get into our current team now imo. A 3 million fee plus 25k a week wages (he isn't going to take a wage cut) for a player who isn't a regular for Wales and is now nowhere near Premiership quality, because he left us for the first offer of a big pay cheque he received from a team in an inferior league, throwing his career away with his lack of ambition, is not the standard of player we need if we want to survive the Premiership if we get there.

Is he really good enough for the EPL? I think we need to look at better players if we want to be a Premier League team

Premiership? Can't see it.

If we fck up and don't go up maybe.

Throwing his career away? Lack of ambition? The prospect of Champions League football and being a regular in a division winning team is not what I would call a lack of ambition or throwing your career away. He played the full 90 minutes of the win over Barcelona.

Anyway, I would much rather see us sign Mathews!

As a youngster, Joe was being talked of in the same bracket as Bale and Ramsey. While he would never have hit the heights of the Gareth Bale's, Joe's career was developing really well with us. He was constantly improving until he needed his hip operation that our club paid for. Instead of continuing to develop with us, Joe unfortunately then chose to shit all over us and leave for the first big pay cheque that was offered to him.

Joe became yet another mercenary, he was a regular Wales international while playing for us, playing in a better standard league with better players. But Joe's move to Celtic, playing in an inferior league with inferior players has unfortunately made his career decline. Joe is no longer a regular Wales international and Joe will now no longer be able to hit the heights he once could have as a footballer.

Joe could have been a decent Premiership player, but I now believe he is currently a worse player than he was before he left us. If you play with lesser players at a lesser standard, it drags you down. Joe knew this and any good Championship player moving to Celtic as an easy way to win a few medals, earn a bit more money and have a few games in Europe is a big lack of ambition. Any player who really wanted to test himself and play at the highest standard possible in Joe's position would have either stayed with us to continue improving and developing, or move to a better standard league with higher standard players.

I hope Joe thinks it was worth it, being able to win the SPL title at the likes of Inverness, Ross County and Dundee. Unfortunately, that is as good as it'll ever get for Joe now, he could have done a lot better than that and achieved so much more, it's a sad shame.

If swansea signed joe ledley we would all be taking the piss saying how shit he is and how they lacked ambition or they are signing him ready for the drop..
We have better in our squad now nevermind in the epl

Re: Joe Ledley to return?

Tue Mar 19, 2013 7:18 am

Obviously I would love joe back but there is a part of me that thinks that he should of stuck around and helped us gain promotion rather than waltz back in when all the hard work is done!!

Take whits for example. I'm sure he's had loads of opportunity to move back into the prem and stuck with us!!!

That's football though I suppose

Also when we get x players back they never seem to perform

Re: Joe Ledley to return?

Tue Mar 19, 2013 7:34 am

Please no not good enough hes been playing against awful opposition and had no ambition buy someone hungry

Re: Joe Ledley to return?

Tue Mar 19, 2013 8:37 am

Joe Ledley left mainly because of Dave Jones (im good mates with his cousin) , he was gutted when he left but he is on a very good wage at Celtic , the money he is on there I don't think we will match so can't see it happening

Re: Joe Ledley to return?

Tue Mar 19, 2013 9:02 am

personally anyone who thinks Joe Ledley coming back here to play for us is completely out of their mind! and knows nothing about football

don't get me wrong, he seems like a good kid, from the area "supports" (him and his parents were liverpool fans growing up and would regularly go to Anfield) Cardiff etc but we should leave it there. nowhere near good enough for the premier league or even top half of the championship

Ludicrous suggestion

my opinion

Re: Joe Ledley to return?

Tue Mar 19, 2013 10:25 am

No thanks, i don't think he is good enough for the premiership (if we make it) and for £3 mill, we can get a lot better quality.

Re: Joe Ledley to return?

Tue Mar 19, 2013 11:52 am

Joe proved in the CL he's a quality player still and although the SPL is a shit league, he's still shown his quality there. He'd be a good midfielder for us and in my opinion is a better footballer than Cowie, just not as much of a workhorse.

Just the deluded bitters who hate him because he left for Celtic when he wasn't offered a new contract at Cardiff. That money grabbing b*stard! Would rather have a job and play football and not go to another club after being released!!!!

Returning is one thing, but for £3 million??? I don't think so. Maybe as a squad player on a free.

sorry but we need alot better than ledley and you should never take a player back ,it never works out ie earnie chopra !

Re: Joe Ledley to return?

Tue Mar 19, 2013 12:36 pm

I wouldn't mind him back on a free. I changed my mind on him coming back. Is he any different from a lot of mid to lower teams box to box midfielders??

I don't blame him for leaving on a free. If he had received a big injury leaving him out for a sustained period, would the club had offered him a new contract and looked after him financially or released him? We don't really know, but I'd personally say no.

Football can be a short career, and he was only a championship player, nobody knew if he was ever going to be good enough for the prem as he was untested at that level. So if he was only going to be a championship player and at that time we didn't know if we would ever get promoted, why shouldn't he take the chance to play in the champions league, as not many professional players get that chance. Why shouldn't he earn as much money as possible for his future?
Why shouldn't he play for a club with history!

I wouldn't want matthews back at the moment. I think to survive in the prem for the first few years we need a solid bank of 4 at the back and need to out and out defenders at full back.

I'm with you on this one. I bet he wishes he had stayed now - no-one else in the Premier League seems remotely interested in him. I think his agent has realised this and leaked a story trying to drum up business for Joe.

Just can't see this happening.Malky's already gone on record as saying if we get to the prem he would have to bring in better than wev'e already got and Joe(for me)dosen't fit the bill.
