I understand that a lot of fans will "put up" with the rebrand and not like it.. But I cannot fathom how any fan could actually say they LIKE it and PREFER it to blue.

Why?
We now play in our national colour, with our national emblem on our badge (along with the Bluebird) - that's fine with me.
If we go back to our historic colour, then that would be fine with me as well, as colours just don't mean that much to me.
I can understand why some feel differently, but those are my genuine views.

Because we aren't Wales. Wales represent the Welsh - Cardiff represent the city & county of Cardiff, who have always been blue.

You clearly don't know much about our history.

Yes, really.
Cardiff City have been playing in blue since they became known as Cardiff City FC.

Nukes - it's not splitting hairs - Blue was NOT our original colour.
As far as I can see, the only reason we changed to blue in the early 20th Century was to honour our investor at the time (the Marquiss of Bute), whose colours were blue & white.
I would say this current change is staying true to a similar principle with a new investor.

Now, that really is splitting hairs- and you didn't make that clear in the initial post.

Brown and orange was Riverside FC's colours who were formed from a cricket side and played against other Cardiff sides. Changed to represent Cardiff as a whole and changed to blue. Cardiff schools representative teams played in blue. Cardiff rugby colours were blue and black, region now blue. I could go on but that would be splitting hairs. We wore blue for over 100 years.
If it's just a colour, then is black just a colour to New Zealand, red to Liverpool, black and white to Newcastle, red to Wales etc. ? No it's their colour and their history. However it would seem that what is important to them is not to the majority of us, thus blowing away the myth of Cardiff and their extremely passionate fans. Would you feel the same way about Wales changing their kit to lime green? It's only a colour after all.
