" SO TAN NOW WANTS SAM TO TAKE SHARES NOT MONEY "

Interesting Tan changing tactics again or was he ever going to pay Langston off?
I thought Tan had put money aside to pay Langston off?
Why would Sam/Langston want to be controlled by Tan?

Personally All I want is our identity back and our Club debt Free.

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has warned he is considering changing the club's name to the Cardiff Dragons.

"If they don't want to come to support our business, that's fine. We need the majority.

The Malaysian billionaire spoke out in an interview with BBC Wales broadcast tonight at 7pm on BBC Two.

He said that promotion to the Premier League could trigger further "rebranding" but that he would provide manager Malky Mackay with a £25m war chest for new players should they go up.

Cardiff fans have already been left divided by the change in the club's main colours from blue to red, as well as a new club crest.

And fans today posted angry messages on Twitter and launched a petition after Tan's interview was reported.

Speaking about the name the Cardiff Dragons, Tan told the BBC: "We will think about it when we know the final result of this season.

"Then we will think what's the best way to brand it."

Tan acknowledged the "rumours" that have recently emerged over the use of Cardiff Dragons but added: "We haven't discussed this. I've not really thought about this in detail.

"But when we get there we'll make a decision. And when we make a decision we will convey it to everyone."

Read BBC reporter Nick Servini's interview with Vincent Tan at his mock French chateau in the Malaysian jungle

Tan previously promised fans massive investment as part of the deal that saw the club's home strip changed from blue to red.

The 61-year-old gambling to publishing tycoon is the largest single shareholder and also holds a significant amount of the club's £70+m net nebt.

The club's leadership have previously spoken of hoping to use the colour red to attract wider publicity, support and sponsorship in the Far East.

Tan told BBC Wales: "A few were upset but like in any business if we get 80% or 75% of the customers happy, with 20-25% not happy, that's fine.

"If they don't want to come to support our business, that's fine. We need the majority.

"I believe the change is for the better. And if you put in a lot of money, surely you have the right to make a call on some things you believe will make it better.

"If you don't have a say, why the hell do you want to put in so much money?"

Tan also spoke of the outstanding debt to Langston, the company represented by ex-City owner Sam Hammam. In the club's latest accounts the debt is put at £19.2m, with a one-off payment of £5m due if City reach the Premier League.

Tan said that resolving this debt is a priority for the club, and again called on Langston to renegotiate to a "fair level" and then convert the "unsecured" loan into equity.

If that happens, Tan said he is willing to turn the £63m loan he has given to the club into equity.

"Their loan is not secured," he said. "If anything happens to the club, Langston will get nothing. So I will convert [my loan] if we can resolve with Langston.

"And if Sam Hammam loves Cardiff as he claims he does, he should come and sit down and then we'll find a solution."

Asked whether he was committed to the club even if Cardiff City did not win promotion, as looks likely this season, he said: "If the fans welcome me, I can stay for a long time.

"But if I find they are not welcoming and rude, then maybe I will find a new buyer and go off. But if I were to sell, I'd make sure I would leave it in good hands."

A section of Cardiff fans continue to oppose Tan's colour change. A protest was held at the end of the last home game to Brighton - which Tan attended - when free red scarves were handed out.

Tan referred to the dissenting voices as "a bunch of mostly young kids" and argued a change was long overdue.

"Have they achieved any success under this bluebirds brand?," he asked "So why do we hold onto something that hasn't achieved much success?"

Why cant sam just wipe the debt away with his own money??

He said he was using his money in the first place :old: :old:

VT and SH are just as bad as each other!!!

Both changed our badge and both wanted us to be something we're not.

Sam wanted us to be the welsh celtic

Tan wants us to be the welsh malaysia

no one waves millions away,

been supporting city away and home since 1976 and even though we will
go up, its not the club i supported all those years ago.

then again neither is football.

i still renew my st and my kids but i cant say i enjoy the home games any more,
enjoy the away games because of the people i go away with.

against brighton with all the red scarfs i felt like a away fan supporting my own club.

this is supposed to be a year we finally get what we want, and i really feel like a outsider supporting
the club i have been for over 35 years away and home and europe when ther were not many of us

How can you expect anyone to have any sympathy for Sam ? He used us, please don't try and tell me that he had more respect for our supporters than Mr TAn has, they are both businessmen, both out of same mould,

Sounds like a good deal.

We keep hearing how Sam loves Cardiff so this way he gets a seat at the table and a vote on the running of the club.

With VT investing further the club could progress and the value of his shares would rise.

Tan's loan is open and transparent compared to SH.
We know where Tan's money has been spent and how the loan has grown so high. But with SH we just got given a final figure at the end. SH money is unsecured and he has already lost a court case where he tried to pretend he was not Langston.
Did I see somewhere (during the riddlers time) that they had trouble identifying the signatures on a loan contract?

Tan has been openly blunt and tells it as it is in this interview, perhaps SH could try the same.

I am against the rebrand, especially the badge, and the name change is beyond belief. I have got to the stage where I am considering not going any more (although will try one premier league season I expect). But my love of the club, and football in general is quickly going.

To date I have urged caution on fighting the RED kit issue, as it is a battle already lost in reality

I said that there were bigger battles ahead and that only a united front would have even a small chance of success

THIs is one such battle. We have been pre-warned with lots of time to both consider our actions and reply

Put simply, we need to get a coherent strategy where everyone is on board the same boat, as opposed to the usual multi-fractioned disputes of previous years

I am not sure what strategy is best but it MUST be one where dialogue is king. All the protests in the world won't help if they are not aimed at the right people and contain the right message with the reasoned arguments (a simple "because I don't want it" will not influence a man of VT's stature)

Hopefully, there is one on here (personally I would ask Carl Curtis) who is respected enough to gain the confidence of the club's hierarchy enough to obtain a voice on the inside which reflects both the genuine majority of supporters and not just the vocal few ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Don't think there's anything wrong in expecting Langston (not Sam) to convert some of their debt to equity.

What they did was similar to what Tan is doing, except Tan is doing it under his name ?

Tan does have a point about the lack of any sort of success as the bluebirds though. I haven't thought about it before but he could be on to something.

Bluebirds are weak. A prey animal to falcons and hawks.

Not sure about dragons, but something a bit harder could work.

Lack of success in blue is down to a lack of investment. Success in red is down to major investment. Nothing to do with colour, nothing to do with luck...100% down to money. :ayatollah:

A good and fair point but it did get me thinking.

I'd rather be the predator than the prey. Something real though, not a mythical beast.

Sam should accept shares and a place on the board. Tan is right about one thing...if he hadn't saved us with his initial £6m investment and if he hadn't kept pumping money into the Club to keep us going we'd have gone under and Sam wouldn't have got a penny. If Sam loves the Club he'd do the right thing. :ayatollah:

Who knew we had so many mind readers!!

for all we know he has the money to pay sam off! But if you could save yourself a good few millions by trying to get sam to take shares, well woudnt you do the same. Hes a top top business man and knows how to run a company. If can get sam to convert to shares, that leaves extra cash that can be potentially used elsewhere within the club.

Would any of us hand over a good few million without exploring every last option using every last minute you had to complete the transaction? Its standard business economics!

If Hammam accepts the offer of turning the Langston debt to equity i.e. shares, surely the value of those shares will be devalued enormously if Tan ever turns his ever increasing debt to equity?

If so, why would he accept that offer?

VT won't pay, let it go to court.
