Helguson

Mon Feb 25, 2013 10:04 pm

Did anybody actually rate him when he started most games at the start of the season? I didn't one bit as I don't think he has a lot of energy and he doesn't really sprint too much. Everytime his name was announced there would be a massive roar from the crowd. I just felt alone on this opinion and I wondered if anyone else thought the same?

Off back to Iceland in the summer I think

Re: Helguson

I think he's a class act.

Haven't seen him lose more than 1 or 2 headers a game.

But don't you think he lacks a lot of pace?

Does his job well, holds the ball up tidy and wins plenty in the air but he we never meant to start as much as he did earlier in season, unfortunately we lost our main striker after only a handful of games

Not at all.

Everyone loves their strikers like Maynard and Campbell but there is nothing more important than having a old head striker like Helguson.

He has bags of experience in this division and I was pleased to hear we signed him.

He can score goals but he has played in some games and has been a handful for some defenders.

He puts 100% and will put his head on anything.

He is a proper old workhorse.

He has put in some great performances in some scrappy games and some key games.

He grabbed 3 assists vs Blackburn and they were fantastic.

Against Ipswich he won us the game with 2 simple goals but he was in right place.

He is 34 or something and I knew what to expect like most fans.

It's players like him you would need in a promotion chasing squad.

The guy has been a important member in the squad and it's players like him who have been pushing us up this league.

Of course yes, but, he makes up for that lack of pace by holding up the ball and winning headers.

I think that was to be expected at his age.
He has energy though and work ethic, I think he has been a great signing for this season.

The lad didn't have much pace to start with? He is not the best with pace considering his age but he was always known for winning anything in the air and holding the ball up.

He's a war horse, as canny as they come very experienced and defenders hate him, class act. ;) :ayatollah:

I hated him, and still do

He is lazy, he provides very little for the team and really wants everything on a plate for him

I think if mason had played the games he has he would have scored double the amount helguson has

Helguson lazy

Re: Helguson

Unbelievable, I've always said that those that don't get what Helguson offers doesn't fully understand football.

I've never heard anyone call him lazy. 100% workhorse!

:o :o :o ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Lazy, WTF seriously???

Re: Helguson

If you can't see what Helguson brings to the team, then you don't really get football.

He's the reason why we won a lot of our games.

Re: Helguson

Old age has caught up with him,if he does'nt bundle the ball in the net he ain't going to score.

You're not alone mate, I think the same. The only reason fans were on his side is because he won nearly every header and threw himself around.

Not lazy, just too slow to be worth it!

You got to laugh at a some of the feckers on here, I assume they're looking for perfection, if we signed Messi and Bale they'd find something to moan about. :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:

Id be curious to see the ages of those with different opinions in this thread.

Id put good money on those not rating HH being of a younger generation.

Dunno why though, maybe because he an old fashioned type of player?

For what its worth I think he is class, was well pleased when we signed him and def. NOT LAZY!

I'm only a teenager so I guess your theory is correct. I guess younger people prefer a more quick style of play and Helguson, I guess, doesn't fit into that type of game. :ayatollah:

Me too so yeah.

And I didn't mean lazy I do appreciate the work rate but he does massively lack pace

But I think he fits better in a midfield position not striker as he would put in massive effort in a midfield role (not that we would have a space for him there anyway)

Funny how diff. Generations rate players differently isnt it!

Just to go against your theory i'm 21 and think Helguson is/was top class for us at the start of the season.

Worked hard, assists, vital goals (ipswich) and utter bravery (Hull).

Maynard and Bellamy were meant to be the main men and he should've been someone to bring on to change a game. Injuries dictated otherwise and he stepped up to the plate and played a load of games. Nothing but greatful and will wish him well when he inevitably moves on at the end of the year. Not sure what some fans want from what was our 3rd choice champ striker at the start of the season!

And i've never seen someone be so clever at winning cheap free kicks :laughing6:

Re: Helguson

he scored some inportant matching goals this season.... def paid his dues.

brought in on a free, experience, good battler and what we need to help achieve promotion..

Re: Helguson

I actually praise strikers like Helguson has they don't get enough but they deserve it.

Everyone creams theirself over Pacey strikers like Campbell.. I ain't slating him but Helguson adds to the team aswell.
