THE BIGGEST PRIZE IN BRITISH FOOTBALL

Sun Feb 24, 2013 7:40 pm

promotion from he Championship, package the others as you want to, but that step into the Prem is the biggest prize out there, and we are on the home stretch, big big win on an important :malky: weekend for us.

It's the same as avoiding relegation to the championship surely?

No, because even if you get relegated out of the Prem it's worth I think seventy million in Parachute payments. It's gone well up this year, so as of this year every team coming down will come down with a lot of money to spend and rebuild for another assault on the Prem. :old:

The prize of promotion is the financial package from the Prem and guaranteeing your seat at the top table for the up and coming season.

The prize of avoiding relegation to the championship is exactly the same.

Yes but the step up and the difference in reward makes it a prize.

I'm not denying it isn't a big prize. But the prize itself is exactly the same as what a team retaining their Prem status gets. Just like if Bradford won the cup today, the prize would have been the same regardless of the difference in importance of the prize to each side. It's still the same you get.

Think you mean kudos! You're right though much more glory in winning than merely being slightly less worse than 3 other teams. Ill worry about that next season. Hopefully :malky:

I depends what you class as the best "prize".

I'd personally say winning the premiership is the best.

The most lucrative, is the promotion to the premiership.

Big difference for some.

Incorrect. A team retaining its premiership status gets the same or slightly more cash than they did the season before.

As Gwyn already correctly pointed out, the difference between championship income and premiership income makes promotion the bigger prize.

No, because even if you get relegated out of the Prem it's worth I think seventy million in Parachute payments. It's gone well up this year, so as of this year every team coming down will come down with a lot of money to spend and rebuild for another assault on the Prem. :old:

Gwyn is spot on with this, if you get relegated after this season from the Premier League, the money is beyond what u could ever dream of. The Premier League is now worth £160 mill not £90 Mill any more.

This new TV deal next season in the premier league is supposed to be massive

Thats why QPR spent stupid money in jan because they want to be in the league to get that TV money

The prize is the same though annis. If we get £160 million for going up then by the nature of them staying up Wigan get the exact same amount of £160m. The importance may vary from club to club but the prize is the same for every club in the prem.

The best way to explain it would be one rich guy and one poor guy both win £6m on the lottery. The prize is exactly the same but the prize is more important to one than the other - but the actual prize is the same.
