New Club?

Thu Feb 21, 2013 3:25 pm

Very early stages yet but there has been some positive input from people on a facebook group looking to set up a new club. I'll still always follow Cardiff City but it's not the same anymore so i'm all for a new club which is all about the fans, no matter what league its in. Interested in seeing who would actually be interested in this kind of thing?

Don't want to be antagonistic on this. But doesn't that defeat your whole argument? The club doesn't feel the same and isn't your club any more so you'll go and set up your own, which won't be the club you had to start with anyway? Sorry, just trying to understand the logic.

You do realise it will have to be Welsh League don't you?

But atleast a new club will feel more like the Cardiff of old, not the Malaysian FC that it's destined to become.

No it won't but if the new club goes ahead then maybe the Welsh league is the best option. Get to the Champions League first and then all the plastics will come to our new club. Then VT will leave when only 3 people left in his stadium (Tan, Gwyn and the groundsman) and we can get Cardiff City back then. You're not thinking of the bigger picture. You need to be a visionary.

also who cares whether it's Welsh League? As long as the club is about the fans it's all good.

I'm not going anywhere, and i'll tell you why, this club is the club i have followed for years, and will for many more years, I don't like the current situation, but I'll be here a lot longer than Vincent Tan and his daft ideas.

Vincent Tan is no doubt a rich man, but whatever his fortune, it'll never turn me into a red scarf waver! :)

What if its not going to become Malaysia FC? We don't know that, its guess work supported by scaremongering.

lol. How wouldn't it have to go into the welsh League? there's no way the English FA would allow a new WELSH team to access the english pyramid system. I'm sure the same argument has been applied way back when the debt was mounting and if we were liquidated.

Why start a new club? There are plenty of Welsh league clubs that would love the extra support.

Taffs Well have a home game tomorrow.

Its not just that. Its the sense of having something which is yours which youve made and can be proud of.

FC United of Manchester fans could have supported numerous local teams around them but they chose to set up a new club based on the United of old and look where they are now :)

Finally get within touching distance of the top flight and now we want to set up a new club, back down the bottom of the pile

Re: New Club?

"Malaysia FC" is a myth and can not happen under new FA rules put in place to stop the name change of teams in the English Leagues after what happened to Wimbledon. If you're going to start a new team, good luck. My Local football team branched off from another after a few disagreements. We've been running for 3 years, and found ourselves in a lot of debt and in a lot of meetings with the SWFA about the situation. The team we branched off from has now folded and no longer exist. Make sure you get the right things in place before you even kick the ball.

Totally agree, I don't get the logic at all.

If I stopped supporting Cardiff City them that would be it for me.

Thats part of the fun working your way up?
No over priced tickets
No owner doing what he wants

A club for fans, by fans.

Re: New Club?

Thu Feb 21, 2013 3:45 pm

but FC United of Manchester.... AFC Wimbledon

started at the bottom, but what's their intention now? to become just as big as the club they left?

All that hassle, i'd rather just bite the bullet and wear red than years of non-league shite!

Re: New Club?

Thu Feb 21, 2013 3:46 pm

its not quite as easy as playing football manager on your laptop guys. i playe football every week for a local side right at the bottom of the pecking order, and even that is hard enough to keep going every week/season with barely any resources required. as previously stated starting a new club from scratch just stinks of sour grapes for me. theres probably plenty of clubs in the cardiff leagues who have that affinity to the city and have the foundations and need support.

Not at all. We are allowed into the English system because if they refused us entry they'd leave themselves open to all sorts of legal issues that could be pursued through the European Courts.

The trademark lapsed, city left off the scarf and have been told that there will be a name change in the near future. Enjoy Cardiff Dragons FC.

Taffs Well don't represent Cardiff City and neither do FC Cardiff Dragons.

Exactly. Low ticket prices, a club owned by the fans and things voted on as a unit like they do in Germany. Can bring back flares - people forget that this happens commonly in the lower leagues and a blind eye gets turned towards it. FC United have a reputation for letting off flares. No big issue with it as its not in the media eye. Can also enjoy the long winded cup successes like Bradford are currently doing.

No, we finally get within touching distance of promotion and everyone decides to trade our tradition and history in for a higher chance of promotion. Greed and money has bred this attitude at the top of the game and as those at the top spend more those on the fringes have to to keep up. Why do you think Liverpool are in trouble now? Because they overspent and got into debt under those Americans trying to keep up with the bigger teams and it didn't pay off.

AfanBluebird wrote:"Malaysia FC" is a myth and can not happen under new FA rules put in place to stop the name change of teams in the English Leagues after what happened to Wimbledon.

We fall under the ruling of the FAW on this one as well. If name changes aren't allowed I suggest you look at TNS.

Exactly. Bobby Robson said it best;

"What is a club in any case? Not the building or the Directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It's not the television contracts, get out clauses or the marketing departments or the Executive boxes. It's the noise , the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city".

All of that pride, feeling of belonging, the noise and passion is gone. Its become about the owners and their toy and how they can tweak things to rinse people of their money.

That petition has over 1000 signatures. I expect all of them to at least show some interest if a new club was formed. Its our only way of fighting back. We can't do it in the ground as we have no voice and blue wearing fans are getting abuse from red wearing fans, we can't protest around the ground now because of legal reasons so this and cleverly worked media campaigns are our only way of retaliation.

I'm not surprised that fans are being abused. Greed and money does that to people and these type of people will piss on anyone to get to the top.
