Noone - what a shame

Thu Feb 07, 2013 8:50 pm

Its been a shame in my view that Nooney hasn't started games of late.

He had that cracking run of games at the start of the season, who can forgot his run from the edge of our box, beating players and nearly scoring in his first game?

The quality of his crossing is top notch. He tracks back and has scored crucial goals.

I understand that the team must be balanced and that we are winning games but not quite sure what the lad has done wrong.

Of course the strong argument is why change a winning team? But I have some sympathy for Noone and he is exciting to watch.

Discuss.

He becomes too quiet and loses the ball a lot in away games (playing on the right doesn't help) whereas Kim and Conway keep the ball really well and contribute alot attacking and defending.

He'll start in our 2 Home games I reckon!

I agree what you say. I think he should start, real good player! if he loses the ball he gets back straight away! His runs are amazing, i think he should start more! :old: :ayatollah:

How can it be a bad thing??., I'm serious just look at Conway's reaction, he's gone from handing in a transfer to being a top performer since he's been given a chance. That drive and passion to keep his place is a massive credit to him and Malky.

Noone being a top professional, should learn from his example and come back stronger. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

It's a squad game.
I don't think he has done anything wrong, wouldn't surprise me to see him start the next home game :ayatollah:

He had a few games where he wasn't at his best, that's why he was dropped with a bit of luck it has done him the world of good. All ready for the run in :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Good point about Conway.

Proved himself big time since the transfer request.

My only crticicism is that sometimes he tries to take on one to many when the cross would be a better option. I would certainly start him at home but not necessarily away games.

Its only because we have been playing away thats all. Malky prefers to have kim and conway out wide cause they provide better cover to the fullbacks. He'll start again soon enough

Noone will come into his own on our pitch. No good playing him on ploughed fields like Blackpool. I'm sure we will see him play a full part in the coming weeks

I don't believe he get the support on his wing from Connolly unlike Conway and Taylor . I hope he gets more game time in the up and coming home games.

I've noticed with Noone if he don't beat the fullback early on he does missing a little, not in terms of effort but quality.
Maybe it depends who the fullback is.

Many will disagree but I have my doubts about Noone if we went up.

Think Noone will start against bristol, he comes into his own on good pitches like ours

Re: Noone - what a shame

It's a marathon.. Malky picks the best line up for particular games. I am sure we will see Noone in the starting line up for the remaining games :ayatollah:

Re: Noone - what a shame

Thu Feb 07, 2013 11:20 pm

Noone has started mainly home games.

I noticed away games we get thorugh games with a 1-0 win which I won't complain about but I do believe if we were more dangerous on counters then Noone would be the man we need.

I can see why MM starts Conway though. We see a lot of away games out quite comfortable and Conway does well tracking back and he can be a threat going forward.

Noone is more entertaining and you could see him and Conway were a massive impact against Blackburn. We won 4-1 and Noone had an assist for the first goal with a peach of a ball.

I love Noone and he ent put a foot wrong but I think we need to bring Noone on in away games.. bring Cowie and Noone on.

Conway ent exactly someone who can light up the game on the wing but he works hard and never stops.

It's great that we have everyone involved and doing their bit to try and get us higher every game.

As others have said Noone definitely better at home, his game time might become less when Campbell is fit to start mind, as would expect either Bellamy to play left or Smith to play right?

Bellamy on the wing is quite poor. They plant their winger and fullback on him which frustrates me.. up front running at CBs hes a proper threat imo.

If the opposition doubles up on Bellamy then job done, means we have spare man somewhere on the field?

Tend to disagree because of your point, just by having Bellamy out left creates loads of space for others and he scares defenders.

Seeing Bellamy in this divison on the wing is horrific.

The consensus by us (and I think they're onto something) is that malky likes to play the wingers on the opposite side from where they should be played for a player with their dominant foot i.e. left footed winger on right wing and right footed winger on left. This requires players to come back inside to use their stronger foot to cross, Noone is much more adept at going beyond the full back to the by-line to cross. i think the wingers who have been used have adapted to this style of play better than Noone.

I dunno Noone had had quite a few assists cutting inside onto his left.
I think he plays better on the "wrong side" also gives more shooting opportunities.

We seem to be playing a few players slightly out and it's annoying, I'm think Bellamy would be best in a centre forward role behind 2 strikers with permission to swing left or right to overlap, play through balls etc, left mid is too far back as it leaves Taylor exposed if he moves up and I can't see him playing as an out and out striker. Kimbo still appears to function best as an inside forward, noone is an obvious winger, smith needs to play a little deeper, whitts is playing deep lying playmaker which isn't good, gunnarson is more of a box to box and cowie is similar but less attacking. Mutch is what we need more for the defensive midfield role but we won't because his form is poor. The only midfielder who seems to be in the right place is Conway. I think our problem is we're trying to play a defensive formation with offensive players but we can't leave the defence exposed, mostly on the flanks. Answer? We need someone to run around and cover the defensive line while we send men forward. This means that Taylor doesn't have to overlap and we can play a target man who doesn't need to be a striker so we can cut out the hoofball maybe a 4-1-3-2 with the wings willing to come back if we're getting dominated in the centre.

we need to do exactly what we're doing. winning. how can
you be 'annoyed' about that

malky plays a tight defensive game down the flanks and
forces the opposition inside where its more congested,

nd attacks are meat and drink for our big centre halfs.

Agree with this. One of our player of the seasons in terms of excitement created on the pitch, seems a good normal lad too (compared to most footballers)

There are several contenders for player of the season. Malky looks at every opponent and chooses his team accordingly. I believe Noone will be in the team when Malky thinks the opposition is right for his style of play.

All of our team are good normal lads, no big ego's, just a good work ethic and team spirit.

That's the Malky way, and you just have to look at the league table to see he has rarely put a foot wrong.

That is the issue especially in away games. Although he would have struggled on the two last away pitches at Blackpool & Leeds.

I'd like to see him brought on in away ganes as he can stretch home teams with his pace and now with Campbell up front, he may get more away game time.

Hs should start our next home game though.
